I went into this knowing it may not work for me, since its a middle grade.
While this started off interesting enough I found myself a little bored and zone out at times.
By the end I did enjoy myself again. However I'm unlikely to carry on the series as overall it didn't work for me being a middle grade.

Thank you to Hachette Children’s Group for sending me an ebook review copy through NetGalley of A Tale of Magic written by Chris Colfer.

This was a wondrous book and I enjoyed it immensely. I was hooked into the story from the first page and was enthralled at every twist and turn that happened.

I loved the journey this book took you on, following Brystal Evergreen an exceptional girl in a set in stone dull world. She discovers so much more about herself, about the truth and about what the world truly could be if change was in place. She found magic and with her magic she found a great leader and mentor in Madame Weatherberry, she found she was capable of great things in her life and she found people, friends, a family just like her and together the group of children brought together found that they were talented, and unstoppable and were the only ones that could guide the way to make the changes in their world.

The story had a few premises one was a very political message that at times certainly seemed grown up and left me wondering if children would even actually understand the depth of the message. The other was to showcase love, acceptance and that no matter who or what you are you must value yourself as others will value, love and respect you for everything you truly are. A very important message to share in today’s society.

I loved how this story was written, it was very well thought out and very detailed, the characters were unique and entwined together perfectly no characters were created the same, each one had a past, a pain in their hearts and a lesson they had to overcome. You could connect with each and every character and were rooting for their success. I loved all the magic and the things they were learning, I loved the plot twists that I never saw coming and it had me gasping when I got to them, i loved how change came into their world even though it was a battle to get it there, I loved that the centre of everything was the children and their magic and I loved the ending.

This book was beautifully and creatively written and my goodness I enjoyed every part of it. I’m so glad I got to read this book and am pretty sure I’ll be reading it again.

This was an absolutely wonderful read! It is middle-grade fantasy, so I wouldn't classify it as young adult, considering that a great deal of new YA books deal with quite mature themes. However, this story is a phenomenal, fun read for all ages! This was a fun and easy read, I have loved 'The Land of Stories' series and this was a great spin off. I can't wait to read more by Chris Colfer.
