This is the first book I have read by Fern Britton and it won't be my last. Such a good read, I really connected with the characters. I loved that this is also set in one of my favourite places and I could smell the sea air. A wonderful read which I highly recommend.

A true saga, telling the life stories of the Bolitho women. An interesting bunch, definitely!
I loved the first half of this, but it did go on a bit - I was beginning to lose interest towards the end.

This is a change for Fern, a historical family drama, still set in Cornwall but dating back to the war. This book seemed quite slow at first but an extremely complex family drama unfolded over time . Characters were strong and interesting and the plot was heartwarming.
I really enjoyed this book, it was extremely well written, thoroughly researched and a really good read
Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins and Fern Britton for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review

When a trunk is delivered unexpectedly to Caroline containing her grandfather's army uniform, the story travels back to the first world war where we learn of her grandmother's heartbreaking life.

Such an emotional and we'll written novel.

Love Fern's writing and this was exceptional.

This is the first book I've read by Fern Britton. The WW2 setting in London and then in Cornwall was beautifully described and I found myself on Google Maps looking to see if the Cornish location was a place I could visit in real life.
I loved the idea of the main character's attempt to reinvent herself and followed the story of her heartbreak as her soldier fiance leaves a gaping hole in her life that never quite resolves.
The ending was almost a little too neat although the motif of the chest that travels from the Far East to begin the story was an intriguing one.
Overall I enjoyed the book and would be interested in reading more Fern Britton.

Fern Briton’s books instantly import you to Cornwall. This is a complex family saga, a change from Fern’s previous novels, but such a good read. As ever, great characters and perfect escapism.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Cornish setting for this historical family saga reflects the beauty and rawness of the women's lives that span two wars and a lifetime of love, loss and secrets. The early part of the story builds the family's world with complex characters and historical details, drawing the reader into their lives.

Alternatively heartbreaking and heartwarming, this is a gentle but resonating story that allows the reader to draw parallels, as they escape, to a different place and time.

An intriguing story set over several generations. I enjoyed the characters immensely. They were all very strong women. Loved it!

Novels set in Cornwall never seem to disappoint me and this one is just as good. et over 100 years and three generations is different from all of Ferns other books but equally as readable and enjoyable as all of her other titles. 5 stars and well done Fern.

Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC

I enjoyed this book, which was mainly set in Cornwall, but for a small part set in London. The book spans three decades of strong women - Clara who lost the love of her life in the first world war, and ended up in an unhappy marriage to his brother. Hannah her daughter, who ended up falling for the wrong man but is happily able to live with the consequences due to her strong family background, and Hannah's daughter Caroline who starts the story by receiving a trunk in the mail, and uncovering all the family secrets. A very sweet book, which I very much enjoyed, and with a powerful reminder of the horrors of war.

Although I've only read a couple of Fern's books, this one was very different!! But what an emotional, beautiful story, of a family through 3 generations of daughters in this story. Each one with their own heartbreaking emotional tale!! Starting with Clara Bolitho and her love for 'Bertie' leading up and during the First World War, and then.........!! Such a beautiful story, that could be anyone's family history!! I loved it!!

A good read spanning a century from pre World War 1 to the present day, telling the story of different generations of the same family. Starting with Clara and the love of her life Bertie Bolitho, to life in the bosom of his family. Clara has a hard start in life but moves from Kent to London and reinvents herself. Her determination help her get on in the world. But she makes some hard decisions along the way. The story is well told by the different voices - Clara, her daughter and granddaughter. Are you always destined to repeat the mistakes of the previous generation. It's interesting to see different attitudes as time progresses, especially Caroline's prudish views. A good read, the characters came to life as did the environments they lived in. #netgalley #daughtersofcornwall

This was an emotional read, particularly the story of Clara, which started around 1914. Clara had experienced a tough early life but how she managed to do some of the things she did, amazed me. The other two women in the story are Clara’s daughter, Hannah and her granddaughter, Caroline. What I liked about this story was the strong family bond, particularly between the women. There was a family closeness and the feeling of all sticking together, no matter what came. They were all strong women in their own way. Through letters the reader experienced life in the trenches and the futility of the war. How my heart aches for Clara at this time. Read this book, you won’t be disappointed. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed reading this book, I liked the Multi-generational aspect to it. It was easy to understand each woman's narrative.
I like reading books set during war time as I like the history and hearing about how much has changed since then.
This is a good book and an easy read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.

The Daughters Of Cornwall is an engrossing, hugely enjoyable multi-generational family saga.

The story features strong women and It was interesting to follow them throughout the story and read about the challenges they faced. I liked their determination and though I may not have made the same decisions as they did, I found myself wanting to support them.

The story is told from the viewpoints of multiple narrators over a number of years starting at the beginning of WW1. Each character is given a different voice so it was easy to differentiate between them. The descriptions in this book were very vivid with the contrast between beautiful Cornwall and the horror of war really well depicted. The slow revealing of secrets was cleverly done ensuring my interest was held until the end. A heartwarming and heartbreaking story.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from HarperCollins via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

A story told over 3 generations of daughters, starting in World War I to present day. The life and times of the early 1900's was described well, one got the feel for how difficult working life was for a woman, The trauma of the war and how society viewed unwed mothers. Clara found a friend in a single lady who owned her own business luckily, who sent her to London to get a job and then took her in when she was pregnant. What happened after that I could not understand how Clara lived with herself, setting up another family and deserting her son. "Needs must" in Clara's eyes"? However, Clara went on to have a family which was obviously very close and lived through the second World War. However history repeated it''s self with Clara's daughter Hannah having a child out of wedlock too, a mistake, but one that Clara supported and eventually Hannah found out why. All the family were hard workers and strong women who ran a business in Cornwall. The novel was very enjoyable to read.

This is a family saga set in Cornwall and told by 3 generations of women. Being a fan of Fern's books, I was looking forward to it.
On the surface, the story is interesting. It starts in the WW1. And follows the fortunes of Clara, then her daughter, Hannah and finally her daughter, Caroline who receives a truck and pieces together her family's story.
For me, the story was interesting. . The characters came over well and I cared about them and their family but there were huge gaps where the events were glossed over.
A pleasant tale., but sorry Fern, it's not one of your best.
