With thanks to netgalley for an early copy in return for an honest review.
Having read all of fern's books I was delighted to get an early copy this book is quite a change in her writing style but I really enjoyed it slightly slower than her other books to get going but a very complex family saga was taking place. Clara was an amazing lady she endured so much but had good broad shoulders to carry all the pain and trauma I really enjoyed this family saga and can highly recommend

I love ferns books all based in picturesque Cornwall and this one was no exception, I normally veer away from historical type reads but really enjoyed this book and found it particularly poignant at this present time, the restricted freedom, queuing for food shopping and the threat of death we are living under pales into insignificance when you read of the hardships and conditions people were forced to endure during the Great War and the long term repercussions they suffered, but amazingly throughout it all the courage and resilience they demonstrated particularly the women such as Clara and her subsequent generations is truely awe inspiring! A very thought provoking, interesting and inspiring read that I would thoroughly recommend!
Thank you net galley for this early read!

Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading the story of Clara and Bertie and the lives during the war and what followed for Clara and her children. What they went through during the war.
Reading about Caroline and how she was brought up and what she went through during her childhood.
I couldn’t put this book down, had to know what happens next.
Definitely recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.
