Story

I’ll be honest, I didn’t LOVE Hale’s Christmas book last year. The concept was excellent but I didn’t love the execution or lead couple. That didn’t put me off this year, though – I was ready for Christmas at Silver Falls. I tend to love books set in small inns (major bonus if they’re holiday-themed or super cozy for Christmas!) and these books usually have some kind of “our inn is closing and we’ll miraculously get help just in the nick of time” subplot, which definitely happened here. (I’ve never wanted to punch a grandmother before but holy moly did Scarlett’s Gran annoy me lol!)

Scarlett, her family, and Charlie (an ex real estate developer that she thinks can help them save the inn, either through purchasing it or something else) spend a lovely Christmas in Silver Falls. There was a big theme of giving and charity in this one, which was so nice to read.

Wintery Setting & Holiday Feels

Year after year, I save my annual Jenny Hale Christmas story for the last of the season. She always writes so much detail about decorating, holiday spirit, and traditions, that I need those feels right before Christmas (or on Christmas, in this case!). I made the right choice, as the Christmas feels we’re strongest in this one compared to any other book I read this holiday season. The town of Silver Falls went all out with holiday games at local establishments, a Christmas party at the inn, and general cheer for the season.

I ended up reading most of the story the day after Christmas, so I was happy to see that it did stretch well beyond Christmas Day.

Overall

This was a classic, somewhat cheesy but always Christmassy, holiday story from Hale! Some early parts of the story weren’t my favorite, like the introduction of so many characters and townspeople all at once, but the Silver Falls and White Oaks Inn settings were excellent.

Christmas at Silver Falls is the story of a wonderful Inn in a small town that has fallen on hard times and a family trying to decide what to do next. The book is very sweet and lovely, with a happy ending and a great cast of characters.

However, I was not sold entirely on Charlie. He was a good guy and has a redemption story however I just had problems with it (sorta like Gran). Scarlett could have used some additional backstory to give the character more depth. I did love Loretta and Preston and wish that was a whole book in and of itself.

This is all the cozyness of a Hallmark Christmas movie wrapped up in pages. The perfect book to pick up and snuggle under a blanket by the fireplace with a mug of warm beverage of your choice.

A wonderful Christmas romance story. Hard to put this one down. Scarlett is in town with her family to share Christmas with her elderly grandma at her inn. Things are tough, and the inn has been losing money for some time. One of the things the family wants to discuss is the selling and retirement, unknowingly to grandma. Charlie is one who Scarlett thinks can help, and sparks fly. A good group of characters and liked the story overall. Felt his guilt and angst could have been less dwelt on, but otherwise highly recommend this book and author.

Christmas in small towns. You know how it goes - family oriented, snow, cookie decorating and sitting fireside. The works. And Christmas at Silver Falls ticks all of those boxes. It even features a mysterious stranger who somehow has the power to fix just about every issue in this small town. Now, don’t get me wrong - I love a Christmas novel as much as the next gal, perhaps even a bit more! But this one was just so-so for me. I LOVED the setting and the concept of this beautiful old inn that they’re trying to save, but the romance for me missed the mark a little. The reason being that it was as if Scarlett and Charlie fell for each other a bit too fast. For someone supposedly secretive (and yes at points, he definitely was), Charlie certainly loosened up around Scarlett fairly quickly. I will admit though that they were quite cute together, particularly when collaborating to save the inn.
Another thing - Christmas at Silver Falls tries to squeeze in quite a few plot points into one short-ish novel. And while I will never complain of having a bit more romance (or even multiple romances) in a novel, I would have loved to have seen each of those plots developed a touch more.
Overall however - if you’re looking for a read that will have you feeling all sorts of festive - this is the book for you!
Note: I was very kindly sent an ARC of this novel by the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This is one of those books where I just advise you to grab yourself a copy to read for yourself rather than reading my review. Mind you, I could probably say that about any books by this fantastic author!

This is a delightful festive romance, filled with family, hope, love and opportunities if only you're brave enough to risk taking them. White Oaks Inn is owned and run by Scarlett Bailey's gran and it is where her family go to celebrate Christmas. However, this old fashioned hotel is now in dire financial straits and may have to be sold. Scarlett decides to try to save the family hotel by contacting Charlie Bryant, a property developer staying in the area but never anticipated just how life changing this will prove to be for everyone concerned!

As usual, Jenny Hale has written an engaging, enthralling story with great characters it is easy to relate to. Scarlett and Charlie prove that opposites attract and their interactions could prove explosive and not always in a good way. As secrets are slowly revealed their relationship grows but will they give their love a chance or will the past come between them?

I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending this and everything else I've read by this author. This is a story to take you through a gamut of emotions but leave you with a smile on your face in the end. I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review.

I love Christmas romances and I love Jenny Hale's writing, but this one wasn’t my favorite of hers. I liked the idea of the storyline, but I didn’t find myself as “hooked” on the story as I have been for some of her other books.

If you are a Hallmark Christmas movie addict like I am, Christmas at Silver Falls by Jenny Hale will be right up your alley. (I hope there are plans to make this Jenny Hale novel into a Hallmark movie as well.) This book is charming and lighthearted while delving into some more complex emotions as Scarlett deals with the emotions brought about by the future loss of their family inn and falling for Charlie when she's just sworn off falling for guys who need help/fixing. However, Charlie turns out to be a bit more complex as he reveals his own secrets, and Scarlett has to figure out if he's being honest with her about his intentions, or if they are all an act (as her Gran implies).

This is a story about family, tradition, and forgiveness. Maybe a wee predictable (but isn't that kind of the point of these feel-good romances?)

Thanks to NetGalley and Goodreads for providing me with a digital copy of the book for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

2,5 Stars

This is a cosy Christmas novel about family, community, helping each other and forgiving mistakes from the past. And finding new ways to face the future. Everything is done in a very harmonic way, even dealing with conflicts.

I am person that definitely prefers harmony over (staged) drama, but in this case it all felt a bit too kitschy. Probably I'm just still too young for this writing style. I like 'chick-lits' (if you could call this novel one) that are modern, creative, witty and with a certain sense of humor. Neither of these attributes I found in this book, so it wasn't the right one for me - at least at this time in my life.

This was such a beautiful book, Silver Falls was a wonderful setting & if I could get booked into White Oaks I’d be there! Loved the family all being together for Christmas, great characters and a lovely small town feel. Heartwarming how everyone comes together to help and to celebrate together. Great Christmas read.

I never miss a book from Jenny Hale, especially the Christmas ones! "Christmas at Silver Falls" is a pretty good book, I had a nice time reading it. If you are looking for a book with lots of Christmas elements in it, this one is a good one. The storyline is pretty good but I haven't been totally drawn into it. I really like Jenny Hale writing style but unfortunately I find that all of her stories are too much alike. There is nothing really new to discover and this is a bit disappointing. This story is heartwarming but there is way too much similarities to Jenny Hale's other books that's why i am only giving it a 3 stars out of 5.

A sweet, clean Christmas story filled with all the best things of the season: Love, family, kindness, and finding a place to call home.
Silver Falls sounds like the perfect community in which to celebrate Christmas, and the storylines of the White Oaks Inn family members were all interesting. I enjoyed this book and will be looking for more books from this author.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This was a heartwarming holiday read. I could just imagine the inn in the Smoky Mountains. A lovely, family story.

In one respect, Scarlett Bailey dreads going home to White Oaks Inn this year. Yes, she looks forward to the family gathering and all the town and inn festivities, but she is not looking forward to having to tell her elderly grandmother that the family has decided the inn needs to be sold because her grandmother has reached the point in life where she can no longer afford it, and no one else in the family can really help out that much. Once there, Scarlett discovers a light at the house of town resident, Amos, now deceased, and decides to investigate to see what is going on. Scarlett hopes that the son of Amos, Charlie Bryant, a well-known resort and hotel developer, has returned and is at the house. Scarlett hopes Charlie will agree to buy the inn, so he can modernize it to get a better cash flow, while still keeping a lot of the traditions and history the inn has offered over the years. What she finds is not the Charlie Bryant she expected, but rather a man very troubled by unknown events in his past, about which he is more than reluctant to open up. Thus, Scarlett begins a crusade to get Charlie to open up and to figure out if he is the best person to buy the inn from her reluctant grandmother. While spending the holidays at the inn, Scarlett and her family reveal secrets long hidden, while delving into new area of family concern about the inn and themselves.

This is a well-done holiday romance. I had figured, from the start, that Scarlett and Charlie would become a pair, but I enjoyed discovering just how that happened, based on their initial off-putting reactions to each other. The story behind Charlie’s discomfort was a fascinating one and involved a myriad of events and characters. Throughout the early stages of their friendship, Scarlett finds Charlie not very forthcoming, and it was interesting to watch how things changed for the duo. In addition, the familial interactions while at the inn during this hectic but wonderful time were fun to watch. Every single character gave some meaning to the story, as it moved along. In addition, the reader was treated to a wonderfully interesting and heartwarming story about a family and inn around which their lives revolved as well as a solid holiday romance. This is a great Christmas story and will do wonders for anyone looking to get into the holiday spirit. Once again, Jenny Hale as given us what a wonderful Christmas story and romance, which will enthrall her readers as well as anyone else who picks the book up. I received this form NetGalley to read and review.
