I would add that while I enjoyed the book, the galley itself was really bad. Capital letters in the wrong place, badly formatted, just generally difficult to read. I've read Abir's books before and so was happy to persevere with it but I think new readers would have struggled

I am a fan of this series and really like how they are just a bit more than a mere murder mystery. Mukherjee's books have great characters, but they also shed an interesting light on this period of the British Raj and the Indian struggle for independence. Even more so in this last installment where Wyndham tries to win the battle with his opium addiction and Surrender-not gets a chance to show some of his real feelings about the attitudes of the British. Even Wyndham has to face he is not exactly without blame. We also find out more about his past when he comes face to face with an enemy from his London life and has to make a decision that could at least be called morally questionable and may even have consequences in the future. Best read it after the other three books, it makes it much more interesting.

Thank you Net Galley. I enjoyed the book very much. It was an interesting take on the closed room murder. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.
