I went into this book thinking it would be a mediocre fluff novel. I was sorely mistaken! I got sucked in immediately and could not put it down! This is the first of a series and I can't wait for the rest! The depth of characters and richness of their stories keeps you reading. The individual story lines are warm and familiar like hanging out with a friend. Highly recommended!

I have been a fan of Rosie Clarke's books for quite a while now. I have loved each and every book that she released in the Mulberry Lane series. As well as being a book nerd, I am also a huge history nerd with a particular focus on early 20th Century Britain. Rosie Clarke writes fantastic fiction set during that time period so you can imagine why 'The Shop Girls Of Harpers' screamed 'read me' at me. I couldn't wait to start reading 'The Shop Girls Of Harpers' but more about that in a bit.
I loved the group of four girls, who are the main characters in this story. They all meet when they are interviewed for positions at Harpers. Little do they realise just how much that interview will change their lives for ever. For not only do the girls become colleagues but they also become the best of friends. Their friendships will withstand lots of trials and tribulations and will last for the rest of their lives. 'The Shop Girls Of Harpers' is the first in a new series focusing on the staff 'Harpers Emporium' and I look forward to discovering much more about their families and their lives.
Oh my word, Rosie Clarke has done it again. She has written yet another fantastic piece of historical fiction. As soon as I opened the front cover of the book, that was it for me. I just knew that I wouldn't be able to put the book down for the rest of the day and so it proved to be. The book wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. It was as if the book had developed a hold over me and it was a hold that I didn't want to break. I also feared on missing out on some vital element of the story and missing out on some gossip. I reached the end of the book far quicker than I had either anticipated or expected. I was enjoying the book so much that I just didn't want it to end.
'The Shop Girls Of Harpers' is brilliantly written but then I wouldn't expect anything else from Rosie Clarke. She certainly knows how to grab your attention from the cover alone and once she has your attention, she won't release you until the very last word on the very last page. Rosie writes so realistically and uses such vivid descriptions that I did feel as though I had borrowed the Tardis from Dr. Who and I had travelled back to pre- World War One Britain with all the relevant sights, sounds, smells, fashions and attitudes. Through Rosie's fantastic writing, I did feel as though I was part of the story myself.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Shop Girls Of Harpers' and I wholeheartedly recommend this book to other readers. I can 100% guarantee that I will be reading more of Rosie's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

A promising start to a new series which looks to be both evocative and fun!

Set in the pre-WWI period in Britain and beginning with interviews for staff at a new department store in London, we meet the main characters as they first meet each other whilst hoping they will be successful in finding work. As the four women take up their new positions, fledgling friendships begin to grow . . .

I love to read books set in and around both periods of war in the early 20th century, and this is very enjoyable in setting the scene for what I hope is several more stories. As women spread their wings and find more of a place in society, I'm always fascinated to learn all the small details of their everyday lives. With a stunning backdrop to this story, beautifully rounded characters provide the highs and lows of daily life, this author's experience in spinning an enthralling tale shines through. I can tell this is a series I'm going to enjoy. I've read a few other novels in a similar vein as well as watching 'Selfridges' on tv, and am hoping for something a little different and surprising to come. Worth four stars, and a high recommendation!

My thanks to publisher Boldwood Books for my copy via NetGalley; all opinions are entirely my own and completely honest.

I enjoyed the Shopgirls of sharpers for entertainment value. The dialogue seems a bit repetitious and the plot was thin. However, it was charming detail about turn of the century London department stores. The bit with the Titanic was overdone!! Give the son another name for goodness sake! And I understand it was to help put the story in context but it wasn’t really relevant as the son could have been given other employment, even on another liner! I didn’t think it was a good plot device, even for the sister’s delayed departure!
Again a sweet read but the ending was abrupt and felt as though it was a cliffhanger just to make readers buy the next in a series, but I don’t feel compelled to have to know what happens to the four women.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Net Galley for the chance to read and review this book. This is a great start to a new series by author Rosie Clarke! This story takes place in 1911, and involves the opening of a brand new department store in Oxford Street. When Sally, Beth, Margaret and Rachel are hired to work at this new, beautiful store, the adventures begin. I loved learning about the opening of the store, and the way the girls catered to their customers. It was also fun to read about the beautiful fashions and accessories! Can't wait for the next installment!

Another really good saga from Rosie Clarke.
The characters were warm and likable. I really enjoyed the descriptions of Harpers shop and who Beth meets and works with. Aunt Helen was also another well -written character. Good period setting.
Would recommend this book to all lovers of a good historical saga.

This is a beautiful story and really brings to life a department store in the early 20th century. The author also cleverly adds in real events to give the story more weight.
Beth, Sally, Rachel and Maggie are lucky enough to secure jobs at the newly opened Harpers department store. The book follows their lives and lives as they settle into their roles.
Beth is adjusting to life as an orphan and finds herself needing to work for the first time in her life, can she settle in and maybe find live? Meanwhile Sally has always been alone and hopes this time she can remain in post.
The book left lots of stories open and I hope there will be a sequel soon.

I loved love loved this book. I enjoyed all the different stories that linked into a main one. The mentions of the Titanic helped set a wider story as well.
I cared about what happened to the people in the book.
If I had one complaint about this book it's that it ended too soon.
