I particularly want to thank Sapere books and the netgalley website for allowing me to read this book which is the first of the series: "DS Hunter Kerr Investigations".

The story takes place in Barnwell in Yorkshire in 2008 where a murder was committed and where the killer leaves behind bloody clues. It features Detective Sergeant Hunter Kerr who finds himself at the scene of this brutal murder. A savagely murdered teenage girl. The killer leaves behind a number of clues such as marks carved into the girl's body and a bloody playing card. Once the mystery of this terrible murder is solved, the police will find the mummified body of another teenage girl. The body has the same characteristics as the first one except that it has been more than ten years since the girl was killed. The police immediately think of a serial killer, but why did he kill again ten years later? Are there other bodies buried waiting to be found?

A book read in one go, so much so that I hooked on the story, so addictive, captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns with endearing characters. Can't wait to read the complete series.

This was a great start to a new series for me. The author certainly knows how to keep the reader captivated. The story was well written and full of suspense.

This is the first book in this series it begins as investgators are called to the scene of a horrific slaying of a young girl. The clues left behind by the murder are bizarre and not easily understood right away. Before they can figure things out another body is found and the hunt is on as further clues put them on the chase.

This is a great read from start to finish. No let up in the action and I was unable to guess who the killer was until the identity of the killer was revealed at the end.

The detectives are up against a serial killer that is very brutal and the story and writing style flow well.

I highly recommend this book to any one that loves a good detective story about serial killers. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

A good read full of twists.
Detective Sergeant Hunter Kerr is called to the scene of a brutal murder. A fourteen-year-old girl has been viciously slaughtered.
But the killer has left behind a clue. Strange marks are gouged into the corpse and a bloody playing card has been left beside it. As Kerr and his team start to unravel the mystery they are confronted with a gruesome discovery: the mummified remains of another teenage girl.
Twists after twists arrived while i was reading and they kept my eyes wide.
Characters are ok and title perfectly suits the story.
A good read.

A fast paced thriller. The characters are well developed, writing was easy. A fair and straight ride. Would have preferred something with a jaw dropping twist.

I only meant to read a few chapters but after the opening action, I was glued to my chair and read it straight through in a couple of hours. WOW. Now, this is crime fiction -- where has Michael Fowler been and why I am just hearing about this series. This edition looks like a re-release of an earlier published book, but now I'm hooked and want to read them all!

DS Hunter Kerr and his partner, DC Grace Marshall are about to meet a demented serial killer. This case will have repercussions that they can't even foresee and the Barnwell Major Investigation Team will face a devious foe who has been perfecting his skills for many years. It all starts with the discovery of 14-year-old Rebecca Morris in a derelict barn. She'd been reported missing only a few hours prior and her killer was interrupted leaving the strangled and stabbed body behind. But this is only the beginning and soon they discover that Rebecca was not his first victim. The gruesome signature the psycho has left behind give the only clues they have to go on, but the dedicated team won't rest until they have tracked the monster and brought him to justice. NO SPOILERS.

This police procedural was everything a good suspense thriller should be so I'm giving it a rare 4.5 stars. I loved all the characters in the book (well, except for the bad guy of course) and I enjoyed learning about their professional and personal relationships. The details of the investigation, the forensic examinations, the meticulous search for information and the painstaking attention to even the tiniest clue were so absorbing that I was unable to tear my eyes away until the final page. I loved the writing style, the dialogue and the entire complicated plot. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys crime fiction.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sapere Books for the e-book ARC to read and review.

This book definitely deserves the five star, brilliant read. Not only does it have you working along side all involved in catching the killer but also the killer himself. Can't wait to read the next one.

A serial killer in the UK. I wanted to like it more than I did. Whilst I liked some of the characters and can see how their relationships would develop over a series this one was just not for me. I found myself reading as quickly as I could to get to the end and the twists and turns just weren’t as tense or unexpected I’d have liked.
