A full journey for your emotions, a truly great story that is full of love and hope and keeps you guessing.

Jess’s mum has just died, Jess had been looking after her mum as a carer after she had had several strokes. The funeral just consisted of close family, there were no friends. You get the impression the family were very old fashioned, no emotions to be shown, stiff upper lip. No wake after the funeral. Jess’s cousin Michael goes back to the house with Jess and breaks out the gin, they have always been close, both knowing what their families were like. Michael is gay, but has not been able to tell his parents.

Michael offers to help Jess sort some of the things out in the house, they go up to the loft, where they find a shoebox, inside a birthday card to Grace on her fifth birthday love Joe Joe. Jess is totally floored by this. Michael doesn’t have a clue what is going on.

Jess tells Michael about Joe Joe the love of her life and how they had a daughter who died, Jess had had a breakdown after losing her daughter, but her mother had told her Joe didn’t want anything to do with her. Now she found this box, and needs to find out the truth.

This is a story of Jess along with Michael and her best friend Belinda going on a road trip to try and find out the truth of what happened. Taking them across parts of England and Ireland as they try and trace Joes tracks. It is a heartwarming but also sad story, with some great characters in Jess, Michael and Belinda. But also other characters along the journey.

This is not the type of read I normally go far, but it is so beautifully written, engaging the reader from start to finish. Leaving you wanting more even as you reach the end.

I would like to thank #netgalley and #Orion for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest, fair and unbiased review.

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Jess’s daughter Grace dies, she ends up in hospital following a breakdown, when she finally starts to get herself back to some normality her mom dies. When Jess starts to sort out her moms house she stumbles across letters addressed to her (Jess) from her boyfriend Joe her daughters father spanning from the death of Grace. She, her cousin Michael and Joe’s friend Belinda use the letters to follow Joe around the world getting an insight to how he lived and helped people. Will she manage to find Joe and carry on with her life or will their journey have been for nothing.

This is the first book from Debbie Johnson I’ve read. The author has a slightly different writing style but I really liked it. The story flowed well, as did the tears!!
A sad yet fulfilling story that is highly recommended.

Thank you NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book 📚

I have been a fan of Debbie Johnson for a while now, and have greatly enjoyed her Comfort Food Cafe series. When I saw this book on NetGalley, I decided to request it. It is very much outside my normal tastes - I knew in advance that it was a far more emotional story than the author’s previous books. It tells the story of how Jess and Joe become separated, and Jess’s search for Joe. In many ways it is a very sad story - there is a lot of grief and needless pain caused by various people - but it is also a reminder that there is hope, and the possibility of building something new, even after devastating loss.

Although I probably won’t read this book again (I prefer happy fiction), it is very well written, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t mind some sadness and pain, but loves to read stories of hope.

I was given a free copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

As I've read the last few pages I have tears pricking my eyes. I had no real idea just which direction this massive journey would take, I was happy to go with the flow and just see what the author did with the characters.

But that ending, it's just right, I couldn't have thought of a more apt way to round up this book, and this massive story of lost love.

I've always known Debbie Johnson is a fabulous author, but this book seems to have catapulted her to a whole new level, I really had no idea what to expect from the book, the blurb gives an idea but thankfully doesn't touch the surface of just what's inside the covers.

And because I went into this story with blind faith that I knew I loved the author and thus would be happy with whatever was written, I really do think the less you know about the specifics the better.

In a nutshell Jess discovers just after her mother's death that most of her recent life has been a lie, and that the love of her her life didn't abandon her. After some thought she decides she will do he best to track down Joe despite very little info.

On one level it is a group of three unlikely people going on potentially a wild goose chase of a road trip. On another level its a story that take in assorted tough topics including grief, and mental health. We also get to see how one man can have an impact on so many people's lives in different ways.

It's a story full of hope, as we learn not only just what happened all those years ago that lead to Jess and Joe no longer being in each others lives, and we learn just what they have been up to in the years since.

It's a rather emotional book, but at the same time, its a book that is filled with love. Love shown in many different ways but most certainly of love.

Pretty much nothing I can say will be able to do this story justice, just trust me, especially if you have enjoyed books on my recommendations in the past, that this is a special book and needs to be read. Currently I would put this right up in my top books of 2020.

Thank you to Orion and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This is very different from Debbie Johnson's other works I feel. This is sadder and heartbreaking compared to her other books. But that isn't a criticism as this is just as beautifully written as the rest! I think this might be Johnson's best work and would be a fabulous choice for a book club I feel. Will certainly be recommending it to the bookclubs in our library.

Ahh, such a beautiful, raw, heartbreaking read. This is a triumph by Debbie Johnson and one that takes you on a journey around England, Ireland, and beyond in Jess' quest for the truth after discovering a betrayal.
It explores trauma, loss, duty, and the loneliness that being a carer and mental ill- health can bring as well as family dynamics, kindness and the variety of people that come and go in our lives.
A wonderful book.

Wow where to start with this heartbreakingly beautiful book. From the first paragraph I was hooked and just wanted to find somewhere to hide and keep reading.

A story of true love of soul shattering loss, the characters jump off the page as you learn about Jess and Joe and the curve ball that changed their lives forever.

A rollercoaster of emotions are entwined in this book and you will want to laugh and cry as you get to know them and all the people who have touched their lives.

I have previously read and loved the Comfort Food Series by Debbie Johnson but this book was a whole other level and I loved it from the first to last page.

I discovered Debbie’s writing through her Comfort Food Series but Maybe One Day is completely different to those and I mean different in a great way! I flew through this in just a few days.

Jess has just lost her mother and is now on her own. She discovers a box of notes and cards from a previous love, Joe. They have both been through something so traumatic together years previous so Jess takes her cousin Michael and friend Belinda on a journey to go and find Joe. They go from Dublin to Cornwall to London to New York so I loved being taken on a journey to very different places. I am very tempted to go into these events more specifically but I really want you to find out the magic of this story for yourself!

This story is packed to the punch with emotion and drama that you don’t want to take your eyes off the page for a second. You wish throughout the book that Jess and Joe are reunited but do they get a happy ending?? Well you will have to find out for yourself. It’s definitely a bumpy road of meeting Joe’s friends since he last saw Jess.

I just adore Debbie’s writing and like I’ve said this is different to her previous stories but I can tell that ‘Maybe One Day’ is going to fly off the shelves. I would actually love to see this story on the big screen, I also wouldn’t be able to hold back the tears! ❤️ This story is about never giving up on something that’s important to you 😊 I give ‘Maybe One Day’ a very huge 5*/5*

Thank you to Orion Publishing for an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley.

Jess and Joe fell in love as teenagers. When a tragic accident rips their lives apart, Joe vanishes. Many years later Jess discovers a box of letters from Joe hidden in her mother’s attic and they reveal that Joe didn’t just walk away. Determined to find Joe, Jess sets off on a journey of discovery. Can Jess find Joe and what will she do if she does?

A beautifully written heart wrenching story which takes you through a rollercoaster of emotions. With it’s cast of wonderful characters and compelling storyline, I would definitely recommend this book.

Overall I enjoyed the book and the ending but in many parts it felt so slow! Maybe that was because I wasn’t engaged in the main character’s pages of inner dialogue. I just didn’t warm to her enough. The search went on too long and the three going off on the adventure just didn’t work for me. The book is well written and I’d try this author again.

I loved the Comfort Food Cafe series so started this book with high expectations. However, sadly it didn’t meet them & I was left somewhat disappointed. Perhaps this was my fault as I anticipated a similar genre feel to the author’s previous work whereas this is very different.
It kept my interest for about 2/3 of the book then I found myself skipping pages to get hooked again.
The premise of the story is good and the description & emotion within it is great, but I found myself wanting more. The search went on to long for me & once the end (no spoilers) of the search was completed within the last couple of pages I was again disappointed that the book ended at that stage.
Not my cup of tea & not what I expected from the author, but well written non the less.

I really enjoyed the Comfort Food Cafe series but this story takes Debbie Johnson in a whole new - but truly beautiful - new direction. This is a really sad yet heartwarming story featuring Jess who is reeling from a discovery made on the day of her mum’s funeral, her younger and joyful cousin Michael and her old friend Belinda. The story itself is so well told, the rapport between the three characters is fabulous and their road trip takes us to some great destinations and introduces some intriguing characters. This is one of those books that makes you want to read on and not put it down, wish it was chapters longer and stays with you after. I so enjoyed reading this and it was an incredible change of style for Debbie Johnson but definitely the right move.
