This story just never stopped surprising me! Sally is working in the hair salon one day, when a girl comes in and shows her a picture on her phone that sets her world into a whirlwind spiral. Her husband is next to a boy who this girl claims is his father. Then, the boys mother ends up murdered.
All of this unravels as she is trying to just wrap her mind around the thought of her husband having another child. With one crazy step after another, the mystery never stops. This kept me on my toes the entire time!

🌳MY REVIEW 🌳
It starts out very slow and kind of boreing but then it picked up and got interesting. Told from the pov of Sally ( the ) wife. Which I could not stand. She is self centered and
The story itself was interesting and full of lies and secrets. It would have been much better had Sally not been such a awful person. I did feel like all of the characters except Sally lacked good charcter development. Which was another thing that brought the rating down. I was very impressed by the twist, lies, and secrets that kelpt coming and kelpt me turning the pages. I am definitely going to be reading more books by this author.
How well do you know your husband ? What would you do if you found out your husband had a family you didn't know about?

Fabulous book that I read over two days. The title give the impression that the story is all about a lying husband, but there is so much more to it. Sally is married to Tom and live happily with their 3 children. Tom has made a stupid mistake in the past but they carried on as best they could. One day Sally sees a photo that turns their world upside down. A sad, shocking story unfolds revealing secrets held by those closest to them. This is the first book I’ve read by Jackie Walsh and I enjoyed it immensely, I’ll be reading more from her. Great book.

This was a book written by a new author to me and I will certainly be looking to read more books by her. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Sally seems to have it all. A loving husband Tom, a teenage daughter and young twin boys, Sally’s life is chaotic and she loves her part time job as a hairdresser. Whilst doing her hair, one of her customers showed her a photo on her phone and Sally’s world fell apart. The photo was of the girl’s boyfriend with his father, who Sally realises looks identical to Tom. Sally is then determined to find out the truth as to whether the boy in the photo is Tom’s son who she knew nothing about. She realises that she doesn’t really know the man she has shared her life with. What can she do? Does she stay silent and carry on with her life or will she confront him and throw him out? Then when the boy’s mother is found murdered everyone is a suspect. This is a story full of secrets and lies with an unexpected twist at the end. A highly recommended read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hera Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Sally is a hairdresser while blow drying a young girls hair the young girl shows Sally a photo of her boyfriend but standing at the side of him is Sally’s husband Tom the girl tells her it’s his father.
Sally’s world is collapsing how could her husband do this and what other secrets has he been keeping from her.
The boy turns out to be called Kenny. Tom got his mum pregnant before Tom & Sally got too serious
Then Kenny’s mum gets murdered
Who killed her did Tom have something to do with it?
Thanks NetGalley

This was the first book i read by this author and won't be the last. Very interesting from the get go. It starts off with a quick pace and keeps going from there, Sally's character is very relatable and you feel for her. It is hard to fathom why she puts up with Tom and his behavior. I cant imagine 2 adults being ok with such a relationship. Sally is too trusting and gives Tom too much benefit of doubt. There are many twists and the book keeps you involved. Great read overall.

This is a fast paced, gripping thriller with so many secrets. It isn't until the very end that all the questions are answered. Highly recommended

For me this was a bit of a slow burner. It just felt a bit dragged out & repetitive for me I maybe just expected more.

The Secrets He Kept was an excellent read. This is the first book I've read from this author and thanks to Netgalley I discovered something great, Wonderful psychological thriller that kept me guessing.

I really liked the writing style and premise but it was odd.

Sally and Tom’s relationship didn’t feel real. Sally is supposedly madly in love with Tom yet they barely interact. She is working her fingers to the bone to pay off his debts while he is off at his weekly pub meetups and golfing days with no mention of employment on his end. He’s a real catch.

The twists inserted in order to prolong the discussions that needed to take place became ridiculous. What about the cyclist and why even bother? It’s hard to rant because it will all be spoilers. I just found the reason behind the secret weak and the people that banded together to keep it unlikely as to how the characters were written.

I liked the style of writing and think this could have been improved with a less is more approach. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Hera Books for a copy in exchange for a review.

I enjoyed this book. The author catches your attention right from the start with a few red herrings along the way, to the final reveal, made this very readable.

Review for 'The secrets he kept' by Jackie Walsh
Read and reviewed via NetGalley

You know everything about your husband. Don’t you?

He loves you. He loves your children. He’d never put his family in danger.

One of these is a lie.

It started like any other day at the hairdressers where Sally works as a stylist… until her first client innocently shows her a family photograph; a photograph that causes Sally to collapse in shock.

In one moment, Sally discovers that Tom has been hiding an explosive secret – one that could tear apart the life they’ve built together. Faced with an impossible dilemma - search for the truth, or keep her contented life? – Sally is about to discover that even those closest to us have secrets… and that sometimes the truth is the last thing we want to hear.

I've just finished reading this novel and it's the first time I have read anything from this author, hopefully it won't be the last!! This book grabbed my attention from start to finish and is a true page turner. I enjoyed the fact that the chapters are quite short so you can get a few extra in before bed. The book was very well written and the characters were all strong and realistic. I love the fact that it is based in the UK (always a bonus for me). It is an excellent psychological thriller that kept me second guessing throughout although I did have a suspicion about the ending. I thought it was excellent that at the end of the book you get to see what happened through the eyes of the suspects. I highly recommend this book to fans of suspense, thrillers, psychological books, crime, murder, mystery and anyone looking for a good book in general. It was just the right length and wrapped the story up nicely at the end with no dull moments in between.
Rated 5/5 on Goodreads and Amazon
