This was a stunning read, totally gripping, unpredictable and very original and although it is just the beginning of the year it will take a lot of beating.
It is six months since Kate had a horrific car accident which had taken away her unusual gift of being one of the top facial recognition people in the world. With help from Rob, a self-made millionaire, that she met while she was in the hospital and now lives with, it is showing signs of returning. Kate had worked with the police on high profile cases for a year leading up to the accident but had no intention of ever returning to it, even if she did make a full recovery. Her twelve year-long relationship had ended when she spotted her partner Jake on CCTV on the same day her accident occurred.
Rob was the perfect partner, attentive, loving, and a genius where technology had been concerned, becoming a millionaire at only 21. Now at 29, he had a thriving business and three multimillion-pound properties in England and France. Only a few weeks before Rob had told her about his fear. He had met a guy, years before in Thailand, that had been his spitting image, his doppelganger, who told him that one day he would take over his life and soul. It seemed that the day had come when Kate began to get her gift back because she looked into his face and knew it wasn’t Rob, it was an imposter.
The story alternates between three of the characters, Kate, her ex-partner Jake and DI Silas Hart, who had headed the facial recognition unit where Kate had worked. Bex, Kate’s best friend, DC Strover Hart’s partner and Rob rank very highly in the book. This makes the story so easy to follow as it isn’t weighed down with unnecessary sidelines that over-complicate the real story. The pace is incredibly fast, with a feel of urgency and dread as each short chapter takes another step towards the truth. The technology in the story made me take a breath and wow at each incredible ‘tomorrows world’ gadget, in Rob’s properties, even with their teething troubles…………..
The characters just sprang to life to become real to me, making my heart race, my skin calmy and a feeling of wanting to know the end but not wanting these characters stories to end when I closed the book on the last page. And what an end! Very highly recommended read from me.
I wish to thank Amber Choudhary of Midas PR for inviting me on this tour and the publisher for a copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly.

"We've all got a double out there somewhere, watching, waiting. Shadowless.”

Would you know if the person closest to you was replaced by a doppelgänger? That’s the question posed by this clever, original, sinister and twisty psychological thriller. It had me on the edge of your seat, my heart pounding so hard I felt like your chest was going burst from the excitement.

Kate is still recovering after a car accident that left her with severe brain injuries. She is no longer able to do her job as a super recogniser for the police and wonders if she’ll ever be her full self again. The only good thing to come out of it is her relationship with Rob, who she met while in hospital. But then one day he seems different, and Kate is struck by the feeling that she’s never seen this man before; that an imposter has taken over her boyfriend and stolen his life, just as he always feared. But she doesn't know if she can trust her damaged brain and must figure out a way to discover the truth.

This complex thriller was a mind-boggling read. I was quickly addicted and fully immersed in the story, disappointed that at the half-way point I had to put it down to go out for date night as all I wanted to do was keep reading (sorry Chirs). I was desperate to find out where this was going and if the theories swimming in my head were right. But I couldn't have foreseen how twisted, intense and jaw-dropping things were about to get.

The author has created wonderfully unreliable characters which means the reader never knows what to believe and is kept guessing throughout. I liked Kate and felt for her as she struggled to feel like herself again after the accident. She was a likeable character and I liked how she grew in strength over the course of the book, becoming more like who she was before the accident. I went back and forth with my thoughts on her sanity and if something so far fetched could be really happening. The author magnificently portrayed her own anguish over the whole dilemma and it jumped from the pages making me feel it along with her. Rob is a mysterious character from the very start and I liked the decision to not make him one of the narrators as it added to that air about him and made the reader consider the possibility he had been taken over by an imposter. I thought he was well written and I would vacillate between seeing him as a loving, protective boyfriend and a malevolent villain she should be running from.

The Other You is a phenomenal psychological thriller that will leave you breathless. Well plotted, pacy and crackling with a tense, ominous atmosphere, you don’t know who to trust or what will happen next as you’re hit with twist after twist. I was left with a huge book hangover after reading and would recommend this as a must-read for any thriller lover.

Thank you to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for my gifted copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Author J. S. Monroe has done it again, combined science and technology using other part of the brain as the focus.

Kate was a super recognizer, she could never forget a face and identify a partial one or just a smudge of a face. She was the human face detector. Post her accident, she lost this capacity and life resumed as normal as she could manage with a new man Rob in a house which was managed electronically. Until one day, she felt the man with her was not Rob. Was it really a doppelganger?

My second book by this author, I was gripped into the pathways of his brain as the story unfolded. What really did go on in his mind to belt our such a captivating book? I was as confused as the main character about the man being an imposter. The story flipped on itself so many times, where the subplots rushed by me like the latest Tesla cars.

The story went into technical details and in depth parts of the police work, which kind of made the suspense go down for me. But the rest of the book was a banger of a thriller. The twists made me dizzy, and the final reveal was so macabre that I had to go back to my textbooks to see if it were possible.

Whew... Another one of my great midnight reads.

Well, that was one hell of a ride! Kate was a super recogniser working with the police, meaning she never forgot a face, picking criminals out of CCTV footage, until one night she had a car accident and suffered a brain injury. In the months since she has been working with a psychiatrist to try to get her former recognition skills back. Her new man Rob, who she met in the hospital while she was recuperating, has been nothing but supportive and loving. Plus he's rich to boot! Then one day, when she's on the mend, Rob comes home, except it isn't Rob, but someone that's his double...

I really don't want to give anything away, so I'm not going to say too much. This one really had me guessing, and I did work some things out. However the end game was something else again. I couldn't put this book down and read it in a day. Recommended for all lovers of psychological thrillers.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kate used to work as a civilian super recogniser with the Police - she never forgot a face. Since her accident she remembers nothing. After meeting Rob, a gorgeous and successful entrepreneur and falling head-over-heels for him she moves to his luxury Cornish pad with her small dog to recover. Life is sweet. But if only she could remember....

Some strange and frightening things happen in Cornwall and she begins to look at Rob in a new light. One day she feels he's not Rob at all, but a stranger. This unsettles her a lot. It's a twisty and fast paced tale and when she decides to go to London to see him and ends up in his luxury apartment in Shoreditch that's where her nightmares really begin..

Luckily for her her ex boyfriend and her friend Bex are looking out for her.... OMG I absolutely loved this twisty story. It's my second read by this author and surely won't be my last. One of my fav books so far this year.

Kate has a unique ability to recognise people, so much so that she works for the police helping to recognise criminals amongst crowds of thousands of people. That is until one day she has an accident which leaves her with a brain injury which means that not only has she lost this ability, but she can barely recognise herself. Recuperating with her boyfriend, Rob in his luxurious house on the Cornish coast, one day she looks at Rob and is convinced he has been replaced by an imposter. Is she right, or is it her mind playing tricks on her?

This is the second book I’ve read by this author, so I knew I was going to be in for one hell of a thriller! The story, for me, begins a little slow, but sets the scene nicely for what has happened to Kate. As you begin to move through the chapters, the pace picks up and before you know it, the story has you hooked! I’ve heard of people who lose the ability to recognise people, and always found it intriguing, yet really scary, that you could look at someone who you’ve know all your life and not recognise them! The story is told from the points of view of different characters and as it switches effortlessly between these characters you begin to doubt whether your idea of where the book is going is right!!

There is a strong technological theme running through the book, which on its own is really interesting but coupled with the storyline gives you one gripping read!! Without giving away any spoilers, there are lots of twists and turns which will keep you guessing and most definitely keep you on the edge of your seat with anticipation! Thrilling…chilling…exciting!!! What more could you want with a book!! Would definitely recommend!

A solid mystery thriller with a unique plot.

Katie was a brilliant recognizer working for the police to recognize criminals.
However, tragedy strikes and she got into a horrible accident that left her with brain injuries and she could no longer do her job.
On the positive side, she had her new boyfriend Rob who helped her heel and come to terms with her condition. That until Rob tells her that he is under the threat of his doppelganger who is planning to take over his life.

Katie now feels that her boyfriend is not the same man she knew, and that she might be sharing her life with the doppelganger. Are her feelings true? or her memory is playing tricks on her?

Thanks Netgalley, the publisher, and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

One minute I was considering where this book was going and then wham one sentence got my attention ‘He’ll steal my soul’ and I was hooked!

Katie was a Super Recogniser employed by the Police to recognise wanted criminals but one day she is involved in a tragic accident which results in a brain injury. Thankfully her new boyfriend Rob is there to nurse her through her recovery. Until one day Katie starts worrying that Rob isn’t Rob anymore and that he may have been replaced by an imposter. Has she developed a rare condition as a result of her brain injury or does Rob really have a a doppelgänger?

This is a fast paced psychological thriller which takes you on an emotional roller coaster with quite a few perfectly timed twists. It also explores the dark side of the role technology plays in our life’s to give a perfectly creepy backdrop to this book. Yes some parts might be a bit predictable or unbelievable but none of this detracts from this being a well written, well paced psychological thriller at its best and I for one will now be going to read some more of JS Monroe’s books.

Soon after an accident provoked super-recogniser Kate’s brain injury, she meets Rob, who owns a successful tech company. Kate feels safe with Rob, until one day she looks at him and is convinced...Rob is not who he says he is.

This was a fast-paced, action-packed domestic thriller that delves into the technical realm in order to create an element of suspense - claustrophobic at times - that grips and fascinates!

'We've all got a double out there somewhere, watching, waiting. Shadowless. And I've already met mine, a long time ago... They say it's bad enough to see your double once, but it's meant to be much worse if you meet them a second time.. The day I see him again will be my last. He'll take over my life... He'll steal my soul.'

Kate's job used to be identifying people. Classed as a super recogniser, she workedfor the police, identifying criminals on the basis of a split second glimpse. But 6 months ago, a car accident led to a brain injury, and now Kate is tucked away in Cornwall with her new boyfriend Rob, safe from the dangers of her past. Or at least, that's what she thought. Until one day she looks at Rob and is certain of one thing - that he isn't Rob at all.

Wow. Wow wow wow. This was one of those books that just sucks you straight in with an incredible mystery. Is Rob who he says he is? Or is it Kate's brain playing tricks on her? Or is there a third, even more sinister option? Plot wise, I won't say too much, as there are so many twists and turns I'm terrified of accidentally revealing something! But it is definitely one of the best thrillers I've read in a long long time.

I particularly loved the narrative - you follow events from the perspective of Kate, her ex Jake, and her old boss Silas. Sometimes this can make things a bit confusing, but in this case, I thought it was brilliant, as it made everything so much more tense and exciting - just as you're near the truth, someone else throws in a curveball and everything is flipped on its head.

All in all, I thought it was brilliant. Completely unique, very exciting, and impossible to put down. I'd recommend it to anyone, and to me, it is clear that Monroe is an incredibly talented writer. I can't wait to read what comes next!

I loved this book and devoured it in one sitting.
It’s a fabulously unique and well written thriller that will have you gutted when you finish it as you’ll want more.
The story is dark, different and intriguing. After reading JS Monroe’s previous book, I was worried that this would disappoint, however I probably enjoyed this one even more. It’s definitely worthy of a big fat 5 stars!

Properly scary, atmospheric thrillers are rare in this flooded market but JS Monroe nails it with The Other You. Complex, twisting and gripping, I couldn't put this one down. Initially I wasn't sure - yet another woman being gaslit and spooked by her own husband, but the scenes where the house genuinely seems to be tricking Kate are so creepy.

Kate has had a major brain injury and is recuperating in her boyfriend's beautiful house on the cornish coast. And then one day, she looks at her boyfriend and is convinced he's been replaced by an imposter. But how could that happen?

A nailbiting ending and brilliant writing, I loved this thriller, just as I did JS Monroe's previous book. Can't wait for more!

Wow! Just finished this rollercoaster of a book. J.S. Monroe has written a cracking, fast paced tale about Kate, a super recogniser, who used to work with the police and is recovering from an almost fatal car crash. He's written a psychological thriller complete with sci fi, medical facts, police procedural and a little bit of gaslighting all thrown in. I read quite a few chapters before the characters and their roles all came together, but by that time I was hooked.
While recovering from her injuries in hospital Kate meets and falls in love with Rob, a millionaire 'techpreneur', a pioneering champion of 'direct neural interface' technology. He has an intense fear of meeting his doppleganger.
As the book progresses Kate begins to wonder about Rob's behaviour. Her police colleagues, her friend Bex and ex-partner Jake all become involved in the race to find out the truth about Rob and his life.
I won't give away any spoilers but suffice to say I did enjoy this well written book so thank-you Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced reading copy.

My my my!!!!......

I had previously read "Forget My Name" By J S Monroe, which was a 5 stars from me, so when I saw he'd had a new book come up on Netgalley I was excited to request it!

Kate used to be good at recognising people. So good, she worked for the police, identifying criminals in crowds of thousands. But six months ago, a devastating car accident led to a brain injury. Now the woman who never forgot a face can barely recognise herself in the mirror.

At least she has Rob. Young, rich, handsome and successful, Rob runs a tech company on the idyllic Cornish coast. Kate met him just after her accident, and he nursed her back to health. When she's with him, in his luxury modernist house, the nightmares of the accident fade, and she feels safe and loved.

Until, one day, she looks at Rob anew. And knows, with absolute certainty, that the man before her has been replaced by an impostor.

Is Rob who he says he is? Or is it all in Kate's damaged mind?

This storyline was INCREDIBLE, I wasn't immediately drawn in I'll admit it, was finding it hard to get into it, but at around chapter 8- I was in and my god- I'm so glad because this storyline is so well written, so well thought out and sooo well planned and so unlike any other Physcological Thriller I've read this year. It can possibly be described as now and futuristic that it's scary!

At times I thought 'hang on'!?!.... But after continuing reading, everything always became clear and gave an answer to my question.
The other you was very well tied up come the end.... So much so it was like a really good binge on a series that I didn't want to come to an end, but the need to find out the plot twist over ruled this, but I finished feeling as if though I needed a second series! I can not wait for another Physcological Thriller by J S Monroe. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would!

This book will have you going "through the 'motions", confusion, fear, sadness, happiness, shock- the lot!

ONE OF MY MUST READS OF 2019!

Thanks to Netgalley and Head of Zeus for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kate was a super recognizer working for the police, meaning she was in the 1% of people that have the ability to recognize faces. She was in an accident that impacted her brain and shortly after the accident, she ended up in a relationship with, Rob, a tech entrepreneur. Rob is afraid that a doppelgänger that he met some years ago will come to ruin his life. Kate starts to think that his doppelgänger has taken over his life and she wonders if this has really happened or she is seeing things as a result of her brain injury.

This sounds very convoluted and it sort of was, but I mostly enjoyed it. It was sort of an odd book and I was confused at times but in the end, I think it all made sense. It was a quick read and I thought it was pretty good, partly because it dealt with some pretty unique concepts that I hadn’t read about before, making it unique in the thriller genre, at least for me.

Wow!!! Gosh I’m a bit shell shocked by this book. I can’t wait to see this made into a movie as it’s so creepy and in today’s digital age shows a scary possibility unless we are careful with the way we interact with technology. After a serious car accident super recogniser Kate is slowly piecing her life back together with her new boyfriend Rob a tech millionaire who found her when she was at her lowest point and helped put her back together after her accident. Then one night he tells her his fear that his biggest fear is his doppelgänger taking over his life and soul if they ever meet again. What Kate initially laughs off as an odd story slowly starts to spiral as her life seems to be at risk and why does she suddenly feel that the man sharing her bed is not actually her boyfriend after all. The twist and turns in this book don’t let go and the ending will give me sleepless nights.
