I was so happy when I got accepted to review this book but then I saw it is just an extract. But I'm glad I had the opportunity to read these 2 chapters. I need more!

Thank you NetGalley for this extract. Can't wait to get the book.

**I received a copy of Havenfall (Extract - the first 2 chapters) from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

After reading the first two chapters of Havenfall by Sara Holland, I am hooked and need to read more!! I was basically given a teaser of an amazing book and left hanging!! The book is about a place called Havenfall, set high in the Colorado mountains, it's a place of solitude; a place where magical words come together in peace. The main character, Maddie, loves everything about Havenfall. Her uncle own The Inn at Havenfall and eventually Maddie hopes to take it over and run it herself. I was instantly hooked after reading the first two chapters because the book is so descriptive that it made me feel likeI was actually there, travelling to Havenfall alongside Maddie and Taya, a companion she meets along to the way. Maddie's character is relatable in the sense that she wants more from life and has big dreams. She's also living with a dark past because her mom is on death row after being accused and convicted of the murder of Maddie's brother. Who else related to a dysfunctional family?! I know I do! Maybe not as dysfunctional as Maddie's (lol) but still. Either way this is a fantastic read and I'm going as far as to say this is my most anticipated read of 2020! Five out of five stars!

There is something instantly intriguing about Havenfall and it's a different concept to anything I have read before. The first page is a struggle to read - confusing and almost with a self indulgent tone in places, but once you get through that to chapter 1, then boom - totally absorbed! The main character (Maddie) seems interesting and decisive, and clearly has issues from her past that will come to the fore later in the book. The first couple of chapters left me with so many questions, what happened to Nathan, who is the man from the bus, what did Maddie witness with her mum... I've only read the first few chapters (I was given an extract from NetGalley) but will most definitely be reading on!

First let me tell you, why would you torture us this way? Two chapters? I guess I can say I was lucky enough to read those. I feel in love with Sara's books last year so this was already a must read for me when I heard about it. All I can say is the two chapters are a teaser to what looks like it will be an amazing new series. A gothic, fantasy genre with murder? Yes please. GIVE ME MORE.

I read Everless by Sara Holland last year, and I fell in love with Sara's writing. When I got my hands on the sample of her newest book, I literally felt blessed. Even though I got to read only the first two chapters from Havenfall, I loved reading it with all my heart. I got completely lost in our main character, Maddie's world because Sara Holland has the ability to paint beautiful pictures through her words. The world building was so magical, it will completely suck you in and leave you wanting for more. Maddie's thoughts about returning to Havenfall reminded me so much of Harry Potter, because he used to wait eagerly for an entire summer to return to his safe haven ~ at Hogwarts.
I can't wait for March to come around because I'm dying to know more about Havenfall urghhh. Add this book to your tbr piles for 2020, guys! 💙

I think I struggled to get into this knowing that it was an extract (I didn’t want to become too attached I’d have to wait until March to read it!). But I don’t think I was given much time to connect to the characters either.

However the premise is good, I want to know more about Maddie and the trauma she’s had to live through. I also can’t wait to read more about Havenhall and the magical realms that exist behind the gateways.

But most of all, I am just left shipping Maddie and Taya. If Taya is not the main love interest then I will be severely disappointed.

I am looking forward to getting a copy of this at some point to read the rest, but I don’t think this taster made me want to move the book to the top of my TBR (this might change when I get further than a couple of chapters though and get more invested in the story/characters)

I received an E-ARC Extract of this book in exchange for an honest review! Overall, first part of the book had a very strong start! The book begins with an event/ceremony of magic, which involved different groups being present and participating in the renewal of a peace treaty. I enjoyed how immediately the reader is introduced to the magic structures and world that are encountered at Havenfall Inn. The book follows Maddie Morrow, a young girl who has a difficult family past that follows her where ever she goes, but finds comfort and joy every summer at the place she feels is her sanctuary- Havenfall Inn and hopes to one day inherit as her uncle's heir. The writing style was well detailed and was easy to follow even if it is written in first person. The main character was presented to be a strong female, who desires to dwell in the magical world. Because this was just an extract and not the full book, I can not really get a feel for the other characters that were mentioned, but did not make an appearance. Overall, I will be reading the full book when it comes out next year. I often look forward to this author's books because of the detailed world building and magic systems she creates throughout her series.

Well, reading the first couple of chapters from the extract I received made me just curious for more! I mean, it really looks promising and only two chapters are not enough for me!

Hard to judge a book by reading just two chapters but if it's as interesting as the sampler then I am all in.

I devoured the first two chapters and I definitely need more.

Thank you for allowing me to read this extract.

I love Sara Holland's writing style but 2 chapters isn't enough for me to fully form an opinion on this book but I haven't read enough for it to have hooked me. I may pick this book up but it isn't at the top of my list

Thank you for this extract! Havenfall has a really strong start and I really really really want to read more now! Very intruiging concept, written in the very addictive writing style of Everless.

The first two chapters of Havenfall are a strong buildup for what must be an interesting story.

Writing style: I haven't read anything of Sara Holland before so I didn't have any expectations. Holland writes easy, short sentences. A lot of details are kept out of the story and the dialogue falls a lite flat. It's not a bad style, it's just not a style that I like.

Characters: It was only two chapters so I can't say that much about any characters yet, but from what I read I don't have a connection to anyone. The main character doesn't keep me interested in her and that's a pity.

Story: I'm sure this will be an interesting story. I don't think it'll be the story for me so I won't be reading more than these two chapters.

I know people will adore this book, I just won't. This extract gets three stars from me, because there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not my taste.

It is too hard to review a book from 30 pages - but it was an intriguing start and I love her other work.

It is hard to review a book from 30 pages. I read first two chapters hence I can’t say if the book was predictable or if there are any plot twists.
What I am very impressed with is how captivating is the beginning of the story. The world that Sara is drawing up in the first two chapters is interesting and I do want to know more about it. There are several worlds mentioned some of them locked since war. Yes, please! I want to know about the worlds, why are they locked? What happened during the war? Do these world get ulocked in the book?
I really enjoyed the names used in the book. The Inn that guards a portal to other worlds called Havenfall is so fitting.
I am not sure how I feel about the main character Maddie yet. She seems torn and misplaced in the real life, how will it change once she gets to the Havenfall is yet to be seen. I loved Taya and I had vivid image of her just after few lines. Her first appearance seems too important not to have any major inpact in the story and I am very curious to see what awaits her in the rest of the book.
I really loved Sara Holland’s writing style. I wouldn’t say it is easy to read, it is rich and figurative and very unique. The way she mixes descriptions and actions is refreshing. It is mostly showing which I love and that is why Sara Holland is my new favourite writer. When it comes to writing style I would put her in the same category as Neil Gaiman.
I really enjoyed this extract and I am looking forward to continue the story in 2020.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this story since I read the extract. The world of Havenfall is so well developed, and so intriguing, that I can't wait for the novel to come out so that I can dive back in. I have so many unanswered questions and this seems like a brilliant fantasy novel. Hurry up March 3rd!

A very promising and intriguing start! I’m really excited to pick this up and continue reading upon its release. I really enjoyed Holland’s writing in her debut Everless and from what I’ve read so far of Havenfall I think its going to be just as great in this book, if not better. I think I’m going to become very easily attached to this story and I’m so here for it. I need more!
