I love Katie O'Neill's all ages comics and graphic novels, and this children's picture book is just as beautifully illustrated. It's definitely aimed at a younger audience than her other books, but it's just as sweet as you'd expect.

An adorable new book by Katie O'Neill. Cute, charming and heartwarming just like her Tea Dragon books.

This is one of the cutest picture books I ever looked at. The characters just look so adorable and it has a very sweet message. Definitely a great addition to any little ones book collection.

O'Neill has done some surprising things with the story of Dewdrop. The setup is fairly standard: Dewdrop and friends are preparing for a festival, each wanting to show off a special skill. Dewdrop in particular is quite confident in her cheer-leading abilities. In their desire to compete, though, each creature begins to doubt their existing plain and their efforts to be more impressive leave them entirely unprepared. Dewdrop innocently reaffirms their initial joy in their skill. Thus the plot becomes not about being better than anyone else but about finding joy in activities and pushing aside concern over other peoples opinions. Dewdrop uses her skills to lift up her friends without ever having to diminish herself. Older kids will take away a valuable message. Younger kids may enjoy simply leafing through the pages and exploring the small elements of O'Neill's charming illustrations.

My Review: I have come to absolutely adore Katie O'Neill's art and writing, so of course I jumped at a chance to read her newest release. This is written as a graphic novel but it reads like a children's picture book. It is a great story for all ages, full of finding ways to help others even if you don't have the ability to physically help them. The illustrations are absolutely adorable and I love all the different critter characters. Definitely a book to be adding to the shelves.

My Rating: I absolutely adore Katie O'Neill's illustration style and she always has such great messages in them, and this story was no different. I loved this story and think it is great for everyone! I give it a rating of Four Paws and a Stump Wag!

This is such a cute story! I can't wait to share this one with my daughter. The art style is so bright and fun just like all of Katie O'Neill's previous works. This has a great moral that is easily presented and I definitely think that children will be able to quickly and easily understand what it is.

What a cute book, everyone should have a friend and/or strive to be a friend like Mia, she is awesome! Her spirit is so bright, and she is so helpful. I love the simplicity of the illustrations they highlight the text and bring the page to life.

Everyone is getting ready for the Sports Fair. Mia is getting ready to compete, but worries about the competition. Newman is going to write a song, but is having some writer’s block. The fish are in charge of cooking, but is their usual recipe too bland for the Sports Fair? Dewdrop is going to be the cheerleader, and practices by cheering along his friends as they get ready.

Aww, Dewdrop is a sweetie. He helps his friends refocus, drop their worries, and frees them up to be their best. The illustrations are so fun and colorful, and the underwater setting and unusual animal characters (when’s the last time you saw an axolotl star?) are refreshing. Highly recommended for kids getting ready for a competition and kids who just enjoy good friendship stories.

One of the ruling monarchs of All That is Adorable, Katie O'Neill - whom you may know from her Tea Dragon series, Aquicorn Cove, or Princess Princess Ever After graphic novels - now gives us a cheerleading axolotl named Dewdrop, in an upbeat, sweet graphic novel.

Dewdrop and his underwater friends are practicing their skills to show off at the yearly sports fair. Mia is a weightlifting turtle, Newman the newt is a musician, and three minnows fancy themselves as chefs. Dewdrop? He's a cheerleader! And as his friends practice for the fair, Dewdrop visits each one of them to cheer them on and get them past their fears, which is perfect practice for his own skills: cheering! Dewdrop is a sweet story with tips about mindfulness, positivity, and friendship, and it turns some antiquated gender tropes on their heads: Dewdrop is male. A pink, cheerleading, adorable male. Mia is a female turtle, rocking a little flower head decoration, and she's a weightlifter. Having a male character radiate positivity - something we've often seen as the female characters' responsibility - sends a refreshing, reassuring message to all children about how easy it is to be a good friend. Katie O'Neill is fantastic at upending outdated gender roles, and Dewdrop continues to deliver upbeat, inspiring messages through colorful and bright artwork with charming characters.

Dewdrop doesn't just cheer on the field she also cheers up her friends when they are feeling down. Axolotls are all the range with children in the nonfiction section right now. Creating a fictional graphic novel with a sweet Axolotl as the main character aimed at children ages 5 and up is genius. You are never to young to learn about healthy friendships and selflessly being there for others.

This is a heartwarming story that is perfect for little ones. The art style is bright and adorable, just like everything Katie O'Neill creates. I love the moral that is clearly depicted here, and I think it's easy enough for children to get without it being in your face. I do wish it was a little longer, but that's just because I love everything Kaite writes.

I absolutely love Katie O'Neill's work, from the illustrations she produces (which are ultra-cute, colourful and adorable) to the positive messages she weaves into her work. This is another wonderful addition to her collection, which helps to spread a positive message about believing in yourself and being there to support your friends, and I won't have the slightest hesitation in ensuring this is a part of our library service catalogue.

Friends, it is no secret that I love anything Katie O'Neill publishes! She has a beautiful way of writing and has such beautiful artwork that I fall in love with every time. So when I found out she had a new book coming out, I was ready for a whole new piece of work to fall in love with. Needless to say, this was the cutest and sweetest thing I recently read. I truly felt like I was watching pond life and I think many readers will fall in love with this story.

Our story follows an axolotl named Dewdrop who is preparing to participate in a sports fair with all of their friends. However, long the way of preparing for the events of this fair, Dewdrop's friends develop anxiety and self-doubt about their talents. So it's up to Dewdrop to lift their spirits and support their friends no matter what happens!

I loved this book so much. The friendships that Dewdrop has are so precious. Dewdrop really shows what it means to be a true friend and how to be an encouraging, supportive friend. Our main character's friends slowly develop self-doubt and struggle with anxiety of being good enough. Dewdrop swoops in and lifts their friends up with love, support, and encouragement that truly warms the heart. The friendships and story-line moved me so much that I even reached out at the random to tell my own friends how much I loved them, that they doing well, and that I hope we can see each other soon. I truly believe that this will inspire the younger audience to really value and cherish the friendships they make.

Of course, the art work in O'Neill's books are always so beautiful, so soft, and really calming to read. I find myself constantly taking each page slowly to absorb the beauty of each page. Every page is it's own piece of work and every shade really sets the tone for each panel. Even if, for whatever reason, you're not reading the book for the story-line then the art work will truly capture your attention and your heart.

Overall, I loved this so much. It was an easy five stars from the beginning. I knew with my heart that this was something I needed to read right now and the art work was truly soothing for the soul. If you haven't read anything by Katie O'Neill yet then I highly recommend checking out any of her books. She is so creative and she writes about some note-worthy lessons that we all need reminders of once in a while. Plus, the art work is stunning. I feel like I always talk about how dreamy and lovely the art work is in each book, but it really is deserving of the highest praise. I can't recommend O'Neill's books enough!

Katie O'Neill's distinctive art style shines just as well in picture book format as it does in a graphic novel. She tells the story of a sports fair that an axolotl named Dewdrop and friends are participating in. The friends appear in a variety of roles highlighting their personal talents and abilities, but their confidence begins to waver. Dewdrop, who is incredibly confident and positive, comes to the rescue, encouraging all of their friends. The plot is perfect for preschoolers, but older children might find it a little dull. However, O'Neill's bright color scheme and cheery illustrations really help support a message about doing your best for young readers!

This was adorable 😍 it was not what I was expecting, and compared to her other books (that I loved!) feels quite a lot younger. I think my 6 year old will love it, and the art was super cute. A good way to talk to kids about only comparing to themselves.

From the creator of my favorite Tea Dragon Festival, this adorable picture book is probably what everyone needs in current times of fear and anxiety. The axolotl Dewdrop is a drop of sunshine that loves exploring, cheerleading, and helping out! The story starts at an annual sports fair sign-ups and Dewdrop finds his friends registering for different activities. His friends are great at their chosen activity, but they soon find themselves feeling pressured and doubting their abilities. In comes Dewdrop to do what he's best at: lifting spirits up and helping his friends be mindful of their skills and strengths.

The artwork is stunning, as always! 😍 Dewdrop is the cutest, and again, while the style and delivery of the story is quite soft and tender - perfect for the younger target audience -, the realities of performance pressure and self-doubt is very real. Little children will find relatable characters in Dewdrop's friends, and hopefully learn how to approach and help others who experience anxiety through Dewdrop's kindness. The choice to feature an axolotl is wonderful too bec it's not a common animal to see in children's book. This may help kids become curious to discover more about this unusual pet. 💖

I highly recommend this and will definitely buy copies and gift to children bec they will surely enjoy this!
