#gifted: I obtained this book for free via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a tale from Katie O'Neill, who you may recognise as the author of The Tea Dragon Society graphic series.

This tells the story of Dewdrop and friends as they participate in the pond's annual sports fair.
Dewdrop is an enchanting main character! If I had to compare it to another book I'd say Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series! That said, it has a sparkle all it's own.

I adored the cute cover and illustrations inside. The narrative is strong, cleverly juxtaposing ideas: Helping others and individuality.
It's great for children, but would resonate with mature readers too!

For such a short tale it packs a big heart BOOM!

OKAY. My heart!!!
This gorgeously illustrated story about kindness and friendship, so perfect for kids (and kids at heart), has touched me for real. It’s about 40 pages long and I CRIED. Not because I was sad, but because I felt so much love radiating from this story. This was so... WHOLESOME! I literally feel so giddy and fuzzy and warm inside. This beautiful graphic novel feels like a big hug from mom. Or like chicken soup from grandma. Or like playing all day long at school. I don’t even know how to put into words how good is this gem. I just know that I want to read it at least once every day for the rest of my life. My heart is full.

Please: Do yourself a favor and read it. And also read it to all the kids in your life. You won’t regret it.

As always the art in this is beautiful. You cannot go wrong with a Katie O'Neill book. The message delivered in this is so important and I think every child can benefit from reading this book. Probably alot of adults too. Great look at friendship and the impact you can have on others to help them be themselves. Just fab.

I think at this point I can read anything by Katie O’Neill and be instantly delighted! Her art style is not only extremely gorgeous, her stories are so sweet and make you feel so warm inside! I wish I had a kid so I could buy this book for them! Would highly recommend to parents and I may just go out and get a copy for myself just because of how beautiful it is!

I am also a huge advocate for getting children into comics, and this is the perfect gateway book! It’s part picture book and part comic it’s the perfect blend for young readers! I can’t wait to see what Katie O’Neill does next!

Dewdrop by Katie O'Neill is an absolutely delightful picture book about an axolotl, named Dewdrop, who cheers on his friends when they're feeling down, and it. Is. ADORABLE! Let's be honest, is this the most life changing picture book your children are ever going to read? No. But it does share some really great messages about self esteem that I think are incredibly important for children to read about. If I'm being completely honest, based on the story itself, this book was probably more of a four stars read for me, but I can't imagine giving one of Katie O'Neill's books anything less than five stars. Her artwork is just so incredible and cute! I am definitely going to be adding this book to my Amazon wish list in hopes that I can one day add a copy to my classroom library!

I wish I was a little more like Dewdrop, an adorable axolotl who helps his friends in this unbelievably cute children's' tale.

Dewdrop and his friends are getting ready for the sports fair. Mia, a weightlifting turtle, is entering the pebble-throwing contest but is discouraged after seeing other contestants who look stronger than her. Newton, the musical Newt, has been asked to write a song to cheer everyone on but has a hard time doing so, while he is trying so hard. Three minnows are in charge of the food but get worried their usual recipe is too boring. Dewdrop himself is practising his cheerleading routine, after helping his friends. He then says "Wow. I'm so good at cheerleading" and goes to check on his friends once more. He finds them doubting and putting pressure on themselves and helps them realise that they have to aim for their personal best and go at their own pace.

A wonderful story about friendship, doing your best and being kind to others. If I had children, I'd read this to them every day because of the positive friendship and overall kind aura of this picture book. The selfless Dewdrop could warm even the coldest of hearts. He is an amazing positive role model for all.

When I saw that the "The Tea Dragon Society" author was publishing a new book, I immediately felt the need to read it. Her illustrations will warm your heart and her cute style works excellently for Dewdrop and his friends. If I could live in a world drawn by Katie O'Neill, I would.

This is such a cute and sweet book. It is about a little creature cheering on all of its friends when they need encouragement and how they in turn show their appreciation.

I really liked the illustrations style. It was crisp and clean with a lot of vibrant colors. It kept to the same color palette as the original The Tea Dragon Society which is also an amazing series; each book also being based around a good character trait, but the are geared towards an older audience. The writing staying in the book would be great for an early reader.

I would highly recommend this book for those that like small graphic novels aimed at a younger audience or if you are a The Tea Dragon Society like me; it is always great to see the adorable The Tea Dragon Society creatures.

This is my first Katie O'Neil book and it was absolutely lovely - Dewdrop is such a sweet, genuine friend!!

The illustrations and bright, colourful and cute - exactly the style I love.

I wasn't expecting the panel format, but it worked well. The story was sweet, about getting stuck it your head and the insecurity of feeling you aren't enough. I think it speaks to adults and kids alike, and the format allows for great discussion.

Thanks Netgalley and Oni Press for an advanced copy of this one to review!

The art style in this children’s book is really what drew me in. Full of bold colors and adorable animal illustrations, this is a sweet tale about not comparing yourself to others and doing things for fun rather to beat everyone else. This book also highlights the importance of raising your friends up when they’re feeling down!

This book is adorable! The fantastical drawings match Katie O'Neill's typical style but are a perfect match for a children's book. Dewdrop is such an adorable yet strong role model for children about the importance of having self-confidence and supporting others.

“The only person I need to compete with is myself, and try to do better than I did yesterday”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dewdrop is an adorable axolotl who just wants to help their friends do the best they can do at the upcoming sports fair. Dewdrop helps each of their friends just by being honest with them, and encouraging them in a genuine way. Once the show begins, Dewdrop supports each friend through their part of the show, and in the end the friends all thank Dewdrop.
I would highly recommend this book for many reasons. The illustrations alone are wonderfully done and gorgeous to look at. Each page is a splash of color that could entertain the most disinterested child. The story is simple and sweet, with a beautiful lesson about self confidence. Overall an amazing book.

Okay, I'm hormonal, but this picture book is so incredibly sweet that it made me cry! The artwork is stunning, and the message is beautiful - to trust yourself, not to compare yourself to others, and to do what makes your heart sing. It's only short, but it packs a real punch with all its loveliness. I highly recommend and will be getting a copy for any kids I can think of!

This is one of the most beautiful picture books I've read in a long time. The illustrations and the colour palette are very pleasant to look at and I really like that the author chose axolotl as the protagonist, it's such an interesting animal. On top of that, the story itself makes perfect sense and has a great message. It's better to try your best rather than compare yourself to others, help each other and be yourself. I think that every kid would love this, it's colourful, cute and has an enjoyable storyline. I mean... an axolotl who is also a cheerleader, come on! And to be completely honest, even adults would enjoy these illustrations, they're adorable. I definitely want to check out other works by Katie O’Neill, even though I’m 22 years old and without kids. They're just so cute.

OMGGGGGGGGG This was so freaking cute!!!!! I think that Axolotl are some of the cutest little amphibians and add in Katie O'Neill's art style it just made me so happy. Katie O'Neill writes some of the most wholesome stories ever and this was no exception. I can't wait to put this on my shelf and was so excited to receive a very early copy of it from Oni press and Netgalley. Honestly it was just what I needed at this moment. This will be absolutely perfect for the younger ones. And just humanity in general.
