Hmmmm wasn’t sure about this one! Jess lost her mum at 7 to a serial killer called the magpie man, and wants justice. She’s a social media Moghul and uses that to her advantage in trying to trap him, doesn’t always work in her favour! It’s not a bad book; creepy in places and has a few twists, I just struggled to a associate with the characters fir some reason. A good read all the same 😃

Are you Watching is a book that you will not want to put down. It is a very well written Young Adult thriller that that uses modern day obsession with reality TV to tell the story of a young girl trying to catch the serial killer who killed her mother. This book illustrates how social media can either work for you or against you depending on whether the people commenting on your actions support you or criticise you from behind the safety of their screens.
My thanks to Net Galley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Lost access to my eARC due to a problem with my kindle account - will probably get ahold of a finished copy of this in the next few months as I'm still highly interested in this and will come back and include review when I do.

Okay I haven't read thrillers in a long time and there is definitely a reason for it. The police is usually useless. I guess it's a big point in this book as Jessica eventually takes things into her own hands, but still, GAH!

What I did like was the twist, turns and build up in the book. I expected so much.. and then right into what I liked less. While I expected so much, the ending didn't really deliver, it was just over too quickly. I feel like that's something that I experience with a lot of young adult books, and I really hope it's something that I don't encounter too often. Then ending of a book is so important

Are you Watching is a book that you will not want to put down. It is a very well written YA thriller that that uses modern day obsession with reality tv to tell the story of a young girl trying to catch a serial killer who killed her mother well. I feel this would be a good book to help my students understand that social media either work for you or against you depending on wether the people commenting on your actions support you or criticise you from behind the safety of their screens.

This is great premise of a serial killer and the daughter of the first victim trying to catch him. It’s original and exciting and it’ll take you on a huge rollercoaster. Really can not recommend enough. 4/5.

Jess applies for a reality tv to help avenge the Magpie Man who brutally murdered her mother 10 ago. However, it seems to have provoked the killer and she is now on his list of victims. Fast paced and contemporary plot makeS a great read. New author to me and will be wanting to read more.

Not my usual genre, but a good read nonetheless. Fast-paced and well-written creepy and twisted it held my imagination right until the end. Recommended.

Jessica signs up to appear in a new internet reality show where people watch her every move. Unlike the other contestants, she hasn't signed up to get famous. She's signed up to see if she can finally find the Magpie Man, a serial killer who killed her mother ten years before.
Soon, Jessica starts to receive creepy text messages and someone is following her and watching her. Old articles about her mother's murder start to appear in her schoolbag. She starts trying to find out who is doing this, but with them watching her every move it's not as easy as it seems.

This is a YA adult book and I normally don't read this genre as I feel I'm too old for it. However, I was surprised to find it was not trying too hard to be 'down with the kids'

For me, I wasn't that bothered about most of the characters as they lacked depth. It was an easy read which kept me reading and I was quite curious to see what would happen.

Unfortunately, I found the plot predictable and it wasn't gripping enough either. Whether this is because it was a YA book, I'm not sure.

Overall, it was OK and probably would be enjoyed by the age group it is aimed towards.

I wouldn’t usually read YA books but this one appealed and I’m LS glad I read it.
I was hooked from the start - 17 year old Jess’ mum was the first victim of the so called “Magpie Man” who has gone on to kill another 12 women.
The loss early on in her life has affected her badly, and her father has never been the same again.
When Jess get the opportunity to have her life filmed 24 hrs a day, once a week for a month, she decides to use this as a platform to try and lure out the man that killed her mother to get some long overdue justice.
There were some great twists to this story and lots to learn about friendships.
I really enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down, reading it in less than a day.

Are You Watching is written with YA readers in mind, but I think it will be an amazing read to readers of all ages and blow some minds along the way. It's an intense read with plenty suspense and intrigue. I got drawn in from the start and couldn't stop reading. The story flows and there is nothing left open in the end, no gaps, no questions. Highly recommended..

Jess’s mother was murdered by the ‘Magpie Man’ when she was 7 years old. The serial killer has gone on to murder 12 more women and the police are no further forward in their hunt to catch the killer. The Eye is a new version of a reality show where the successful candidates are followed for a day a week for a dedicated YouTube channel. Jess is determined to be selected and to use the show as away of tracking down the Magpie Man before he kills again. Jess quickly finds out that the processes is more difficult than she imagined but will she be successful in finding her mum’s killer. Also she learns a lot about the people around her, the true picture of grief and the value of true friendship. A real thriller, right to the end!

I don’t usually read YA fiction, I have nothing against YA I just don’t find them to be gritty enough, but this definitely blew my previous thoughts out the window. ‘Are you watching’ was a really intense and gritty thriller, I will definitely hunting out more books by Vincent Ralph.

An intriguing and twisty thriller, fast paced and definitely addictive; it is ideal for both the YA and thriller markets. I was hooked from the first page.

When Jess was seven years old her mother was murdered by the Magpie Man. She was his first victim but not his last and he has never been caught. Jess is now seventeen and is featuring in a reality TV programme broadcast on YouTube; by telling her story Jess is hoping to taunt the killer into coming for her.

Jess is a believable and sympathetic character and her relationships with her father and her friends are realistic and touching. The plotting is very clever, the narrative well written and I didn’t see the end coming.
If you enjoy a compelling whodunit you will love Are You Watching.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

One of the best YA thriller I hav read this year. The pace of the story is really good. The story really grips me hard and push me to keep on read to know what happen next. I have no idea what to expect. My guess all was wrong and it really surprise me of who is the culprit is.

Overall, the story was good and is indeed a gripping one but I’m hoping the ending wasn’t that short.

Jess is a young 17 year old who has been accepted for a social media reality show together with four other people - all with their own stories to tell, but Jess's story is not like the others. At the tender age of 7, her mother was the first victim of the serial killer known as "The Magpie Man". Ten years, and 12 other victims later and the police are still no closer to catching him - so Jess intends to use the reality show to identify and capture him.

This is a steady paced story of determination by a young girl looking for justice but her character is not fully believable in her actions, and its difficult to make any connection with any of the other characters.. The pace picks up in the second half of the book and there are a few twists that may change your suspicions on who the Magpie Man might be.

The premise of this book was very promising - a girl using a youtube reality series to try and find her mother's killer. But for me, personally, I think it didn't really deliver. I really enjoyed the first half of the book and I actually stayed up way too late reading through the majority of this book, but the way the book ended brought my rating down to a 3,5 star instead of a full 4 star.

I wasn't a huge fan of Jess as a main character and I didn't really like her friends either. She didn't grow on me until later on in the book, but then towards the end, she did some things that made me sigh out loud multiple times.

All-in-all I thought it was an interesting book, but the ending kind of 'ruined' it for me (I guess, idk that's not really the right word).

An exciting YA book, where the daughter or a murder victim decides to track down the murderer by laying a trap. It is tense, very exciting and full of the unexpected. A great read for adults and for teenagers!
