When you are at the crossroads of life which path do you take....the easy one or the one that could lead to happiness or heartache? “Summer on a Sunny Island” is the second book by Sue Moorcroft that I have had the privilege of reading. Set on Malta this sweet story spoke to me. A nice easy read that leaves you with a smile.

A great book once again.
This book is brilliantly wrote with the holiday location in Sunny Malta. She describes the setting to perfection and adds all the history Malta has to offer. She describes the coast and the nightlife to perfection and if you've been to Malta, you know it's all correct. I could identify with areas she discussed in the novel as I was there last summer. Send me back to the sunny beaches.
I loved the story of Rosa and Zac who are living and working out there but things arent always happy.
This was such a great read for me. Nice to read a book that's not the usual locations.

This book was just okay for me.
I found it very hard to get into, characters fell flat. The story line, was also flat for me.

I am a huge fan of Sue Moorcroft. Her books are uplifting, emotional and take me to places I will never travel, but get to visit in her writing. Her characters are like-life and relatable. The events in her books are handled with love and care. Sometimes a serious situation occurs and it is dealt with mature understanding. I will also add that Sue Moorcroft just received (March 2020) the Romantic Novelists’ Association Award for Contemporary Romantic Novel 2020, for her book, A Summer to Remember, therefore, I am definitely not alone in my praise of this author’s collection.

Summer on a Sunny Island is a fantastic book that I enjoyed so much. I feel like I visited the beautiful island of Malta. The scenery is described so expertly that I could visualize the coast, historic sites and nightlife. While the setting is idyllic, the problems people face do not go away just because they go to a beautiful place. Your past follows you always, as is shown in this story. One of the things I found inspiring in this book was that your past does not define who you are. Your actions in the present is your true value. Without going into the actual plot, which you can easily read in the book’s summary, I will say that I was drawn into the lives of the characters and the struggles they were going though. That is a sign of a fantastic author. They pull you into the world they created and make you care about the fictional people that you think are “real”.

Having read Let it Snow and A Summer to Remember I was delighted to be granted an ARC from NetGalley. It didn't disappoint.

Rosa journeys to her mum in Malta after separating from her boyfriend Marcus. There she meets Jack who is at his own crossroads and trying to help his loved ones and manage some challenging situations. This is the story of Rosa and Jack's relationship. Both with their barriers, can they find a way to be together?

I thoroughly enjoyed the glimpse into life in Malta, the sun drenched pages are enticing and engaging. Thanks NetGalley for an enjoyable read.

I received an ARC version of the book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest feedback.

This is my first book from this author so I wasn't quite sure what to expect so either NetGalley spoiled me or summer readings are getting better every year but this isn't a book I would recommend to someone looking for an easy, summer light read.

In advance I want to say that I am not criticising the author but the storyline and the writing ways.

In this book the author tells us a story about Rosa and Zach and their lives while living and working and enjoying the summer in Malta.

But the author also talks about history, geography and vacation spots in Malta. But she talks so much about them! That was the first negative for me in this book. I felt like watching a History channel special about Malta and army families that lived there in the 60s, 70s. Too much information about what happened there, too much details about the life of parents that lived there were unbearable. :/ I just wanted to skip that part as whole because I couldn't see how that part of the story connected to the present and the storyline of main characters. Nothing from that history report made an impression even on the characters themselves and it just felt redundant.

Then comes the Geography channel report. :/ Again - too much of it. I love the descriptions of unusual places and I live when authors depict them nicely to give you an introduction to a story so if prompted you can search later more. But here it was just so boring most of the time that I thought of not finishing the book at all.

The characters - too much and many! I lost the main characters somewhere along the way because too many storylines interfiered and I couldn't focus on so may information, characters and their history. It would have been lovely if the writing just gave us some info about some of them e.g.the parents, or cousins so we can maybe read a sequel or a prequel of their story.


Some confusion issues also come to mind - a group is cleaning the ocean from plastic but then they drink water from plastic bottles. :/ - even if Malta doesn't have good tap water why couldn't they use reusable bottles? :/

Except Rosa's mother I really didn't like any of the characters. They weren't well devoleped, their thinking didn't appeal to me in anyway and all of the interaction were just a simple jumble-mumble that I didn't appreciate. :/

The narration had some good starting points - women that fought through life and can stick for themselves, a character with a mental illness, a storyline that could have been well developed if not for so many unwanted information.

I didn't see the characters connecting and interacting among themselves at all and that was very disappointing for what should have been a great summer read. :/

In my humble and maybe not important opinion - too much of everything in this book didn't deliver a good work of fiction.

I wish there were more stars - 5 are not enough!! Summer on a Sunny Island by Sue Moorcroft is a captivating story filled with engaging characters that I loved! The vivid description of Malta made me see it, feel it, taste and smell it, - I could actually feel the heat of the sun!! This wonderful story captured me from the first to the last page, and I really didn’t want it to end! Rosa and Zach held my interest throughout the story, and I think Dory is lovely!! It’s not all sweetness and light - there’s a darker side - and I loved that. Bravo Sue, another brilliant book!

It was OK. It wasn't my favorite book by the author, I definitely enjoyed "A Summer to Remember" and "Let It Snow" a lot more. I found it hard to get into the book. The first chapter felt like I was missing something, that the story already started. there wasn't much of an introduction to characters. This book felt different than the previous books I read by the author. I enjoyed reading about Malta, but at times it felt like the description was too much. It sounds like a beautiful place to visit. I wasn't a huge fan of any of the characters. I didn't love any of them. Zach's reasons for not being with Rosa were ridiculous. There were so many different story-lines and everyone had numerous problems. Zach's family could have been an entire book by itself.

Give the book a try, you may like it more than I did. I look forward to reading more books by the author because I really enjoyed her previous books.

All the hallmarks of a Sue Moorcroft novel.

I enjoyed this summer tale in Malta. It made me want to go on a holiday to that country. As always, Sue Moorcroft paints a vivid backdrop to a "push me pull you" relationship between very believable characters with their own fascinating backgrounds, jobs, hopes and dreams.

My only complaint is that I read her novels too quickly and have to wait until she's written another one for my "fix"!

I love a good Sue Moorcroft book and was looking forward to reading this one.

Rosa has split from long term boyfriend Marcus and her mum Dory has invited her to spend the summer on the sun filled island of Malta to help her write a cookery book. Zach has a bad boy reputation and is in Malta to escape problems at home. Although both are not looking for love, it slowly creeps up on them; but will the problems they have left behind hinder the future of their romance?

A lighthearted summer book with good characters which was an enjoyable read.

What better way to prepare for the coming summer than the latest Sue Moorcroft novel, 'Summer on a Sunny Island'.

As the title states, such is the content.

Set on the glorious and stoic island of Malta, located in the Mediterranean Sea, this is the perfect foil to put you in the mood for a holiday. I've been to Malta, a good while ago admittedly, but I was transported back to happy memories of when I'd only recently been married.

Sue has the gift of being able to describe a location and to make you feel as if you are in the centre of the action and an integral cog in her stories. I can still feel the Maltese sun on the back of my neck the day after finishing this novel.

The story of Rosa and Zach, two people at crossroads in their lives, Summer on a Sunny Island never lets up in it's twists and turns and the author never shirks from putting her protagonists through the wringer. I felt anger when the characters were put in danger; beamed like a lunatic with happiness when there was cause for celebration; almost cried (I'm of the male persuasion so don't expect me to admit to the act) at times too.

With a supporting cast of various relations and local Maltese, heroes and villains both, that are each well-rounded and with purpose for the story, this novel is up there with the author's best work and I can't wait for my goldfish-like memory to forget enough of it so that I may read it again afresh.

I cannot and will not be able to recommend this novel enough. Buy it now, you won't be disappointed!

I loved this book. I learnt a lot about Malta. I liked the cooking connection. The negative equity of the house kept you intrigued. One of the best Sue Moorcroft 's I have read. A good holiday book. Lovely ending. Would highly recommend it

The story, for me, got off to a bad start, with the first chapter being a rather dull conversation between the two main characters which seemed to serve as an 'info dump'. This pattern continued into the next couple of chapters, to the extent that I never felt sufficiently 'in the moment' to be engaged by it and want to read any further.

Maybe that is my loss, though, as I thought the writing was fine and the story may well pick up momentum later. If I had cared more about the characters I might have given it more of a chance, but neither of them appealed to me. Probably just a personal thing - others may love it.

Rosa splits with Marcus who has gambled all his money. she goes to Malta to be with her mother who is writing a cook book.

Great storyline that instantly hooked me, likeable characters and some excitement to keep the pages turning too.

Having read and enjoyed other books by Sue Moor croft I jumped at the chance of reading an advance copy of this book from the publisher, although this didn't influence my review.
This time the setting is on the island of Malta where Rosa spending the summer with her mother, who is writing a cookery book, after her relationship with her partner broke down. There she meets Zak, who is staying whilst refurbishing the flats for his aunt, joined by his sister and her daughter. Rosa and Zak are attracted to each other and start a relationship, although this is not straightforward due to their individual issues.
Not a feel - good story due to situations around them, not a criticism more an observation , however it kept me reading and enjoying the thought of Summer weather whilst seeing how their situations would develop.

I normally love Sue Moorcroft hooksbut I just couldn't get into this one. It felt too description heavy throughout the book which made it difficult to engage or connect with both the storyline and the characters.

Jet off to the sun soaked island of Malta, the perfect setting, with Sue Moorcroft in her latest Summer read. Rosa is dealing with a split from her partner - Dora, Mum to Rosa, tries to help. Enter Zach. Engaging and entertaining, well rounded characters with a good dose of romance, mystery and family drama. In the true tradition of this author’s books - some guaranteed escapism.

Another fabulous book from Sue.
Absolutely loved the setting, made me want to book a ticket.
Lovely story of issues that happen in real life with the youth and in families.
The characters were fabulous. Loved Dory and especially Paige.
This story proves that things can change in your life if you really want them to, and there are good people about.
Can’t wait for your next one Sue.
