I tried. I really wanted to like it. But it was just so incredible boring... I had hoped this was going to be fun, but i did not like any of the characters and it was trying too hard for my taste. But it might be a it`s not you it`s me type of situation. Who knows.

1.5 stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed this light read from Maddy Bordeaux. Written with humor and just enough reality to make a boomer like me squirm a bit! What fun. I recommend it to those looking for a light, easy, fast , but entertaining read.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

Mel and Shar's Erotic Adventures is about two friends who are past their prime, belonging to the generation of Baby Boomers but are always looking for something exciting to do. So though they haven't really read or seen any porn and do not know much beyond a few four lettered words related to a three lettered word, decide to step into the field to make some bucks. What follows is quite a bit of MISadventure with the two bumbling friends and a host of other characters. Funny in places, i found the book awkward at times.

Funny romp through adventures with 2 best friends.

Not for the faint of heart though as they come up with interesting schemes trying to make some money.

Having lived in the Denver area for a while, I was familiar enough with the Colorado Springs area as well.

Whilst funny in areas the awkwardness of two baby boomers wanting to find their eroticism was an awkward read. Not helped by wondering who I knew of the same age. I believe this book was supposed to have been comedic in style but the humour like the characters were a little bit dated and should have known better.

This was okay. From the reviews I read, this was supposed to be hilarious, but it fell short of that. It was a really cute premise and had a lot of potential, but didn't quite make it.

I tried to enjoy this book but found its take on erotica to be condescending and really not fun at all. Where is the erotic adventure? It felt like watching soft porn with my mom.

Maddy Bordeaux is a nom de plume for a much better known writer of erotic bodice-ripping fiction. This book is a kind of fun romp or perhaps a bit of an antidote to all that hard, rippling flesh and soft, melting, heroines. However, I'm still not sure what to make of it!

Mel and Shar are what might be known as part of the baby boomer generation and, therefore, approaching maturity and, of course, ripeness. For various reasons, they decide to live a bit. They start off by looking for the Chippendales in a pet shop and then decide to go to a Senior Swap Meet carting along armfuls of redundant devices. It turns out that the seniors are more interested in swapping bodily fluids than toasters and curling irons which leads to some lengthy innuendos and misunderstandings. Escaping, the two women fall into the hands of a hunk who has escaped from the bodice rippers in the form of a local policeman. He surfaces several more times to rescue them in the course of the novel including the time when, after deciding to make their fortune in the porn industry, the two women set out to recruit some male co-stars on the local streets.

Later, they decide to try their luck with erotic fiction and there is a diversion into the imaginary world of Tamarac Tark, a lengthy series of erotic novels which the two women explore with their local book club friends before they write their own stories about a hero called Lars Bolt. It's more difficult than they think!

Here the book is navigating in some tricky waters since the author writes somewhat similar books but at a classier level. You could deconstruct this in all sorts of ways but there's a slightly uneasy feeling that we could be being told that writing erotica is difficult and that those who pretend to do it don't know what they're letting themselves in for.

Anyway, they go on to write a dirty cookbook, encounter the hunky policeman again and a bunch of fundamentalist demonstrators and then have some other adventures. At the end, Mel finds out that policeman Huckleberg is going to be her tenant and you can guess the rest although it takes a while to unfold through a few other comic situations, including trying stand up comedy. There's some jokes here which made me laugh!

To be honest, I got a bit bored of Mel and Shar otherwise and their capacity to get into absurd scrapes. However, maybe they were just a vehicle for an introductory tour of the sex industry for the older generation. I did have a niggling worry throughout that the author, a writer of genuine erotica, might be half mocking her own readers but I suppose you might feel like that after churning out a shelf or two of books. There again, it might be better not to be too explicit about it!

In the end, it's an easy read and if you want to know the difference between a wife and a job you'll have to read it!

"Amazingly warm and humorous story of … boomers. I have no idea how old the ladies are (over 50) and it does not really matter. They are so young at heart that I felt they are more like my girlfriends then mothers.
Mel and Shar are two friends with plenty of time on their hands and strong determination not to get sad and old any time soon. From cooking sexy titled dishes to dancing striptease in clown costumes, from having 'senior' moments in the shopping car park to finding love in the most unexpected places, the story is LOL and leaves you all warm and tingly inside.
The narration is a bit funny though. It feels like Mel is talking to herself most of the time and is writing copious notes... I guess it is an author's thing. I had to skip those.
But all in all 'erotic adventures' are what doctor has ordered - I can just see myself in Mel's place."

This book is a funny tale of best friends wanting to spice up their every day existence with a little elderly eroticism, and get more adventure, and misadventure, than they bargained for. It was bumbling, awkward, and hilarious good fun, proving you are never too old to kick start your life again.
