This is a very good series of books by Michael Scanlon. Set in a quiet Irish town and featuring detective Finn Beck, who is investigating the murder of an elderly man. It was a good solid read which kept me interested to the end. I liked the writing style and the interesting characters. I hope there is another one to come in this series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

This is the third in a series, which I did not realize until I had started it. Normally I don't read books in a series if I haven't read the previous books, but this one didn't seem to pick up in the middle of anything major. A well-loved elderly man is murdered, found in his best clothes with an engagement ring, but no one knows of any woman he may have been involved with. Detective Beck investigates the death. It was kind of underwhelming. I'm really not sure what the title was in reference to. I probably would not go out of my way to read more in this series. Three stars.

The story is more of a police procedural. So there are other investigations going on simultaneously. The main story is lost in the middle and picked up in the end. The suspense was good. The pace could have been faster. 4.5 stars.

I enjoyed this book, its your murder mystery story that even though you think you have worked out who the murderer is when you get to the end you realise your totally wrong

Very descriptive writing style. Typical murder mystery book that leaves you guessing until the very end. Wasn’t super exciting but wasn’t terrible either.

I found this book very disappointing in that it is a police procedural not a thriller and that it should of been about Eddie Kavanaugh and his way of life.Beck is not a nice person and i feel should of only been in the background.Very disappointed in the book as reading the blurb it was about Kavanaugh but sadly not.

Beck was an intriguing character as the detective investigating the murder of Eddie Kavanagh, however, I was hoping to read more about the mystery surrounding Eddie and his long-lost love, Emily. Although the writing was very good, I usually don't gravitate towards procedural investigative stories. This book wasn't for me but it would be a wonderful read for those who prefer this sub-genre.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Michael Scanlon for an ARC of 'Her Last Goodnight' in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

I feel like this book was misclassified as a thriller when it was a straight up police procedural. The synopsis gives you the idea that the book is about Eddie Kavanaugh, but it's really not- it's about the police detective, Finnegan Beck. The reader never really gets to know Eddie and though he is a piece of the overall crime that is solved

I wasn't super engaged in this story, as it was not what I was expecting. Beck isn't all that likable, but there is a realness about him that certainly makes him feel human. The story itself, and the police work to solve it, was just OK,

If you like the police procedural genre, I imagine you'd be into this book. If you are looking for a mystery or thriller, probably not as much. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Her Last Goodnight reminds me of the great crime thrillers from around 20 years ago. Dark, gripping and with the plot slowly unfolding until it reaches its shocking conclusion! I didn’t like Beck, he’s an interesting character but I found him perfect for the story.
Max has stolen my heart!
