A great book to remind us of situational awareness and the need to be alert in all situations. Steve Brass does a great job of giving scenarios and information that you may or may not already know. He puts it in a way to make you contemplate your reactions and think about new ideas while focusing on paying attention to what's around you. I noticed I would look at situations with a slightly different outlook after reading parts of the book.

Many, many great tips on how to protect yourself. According to this book, even though you are a woman and, more often than not, much weaker than the opposite sex, there are still many steps or moves you can take to counterattack against an assailant. The strategies you can use to prevent any incident happening in the first place is also extremely useful.

I do wish though that there are better pictures of the movements..perhaps a step-by-step. As it is, the photos are not that clear.

An important point to note is that Steve Brass is an international personal safety specialist. He has studied martial arts and close quarter fighting systems. So you can be sure you're learning from someone who knows what he is talking about.

Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC. This is my honest review.

I learned a lot from this book and I was very happy to learn I had been using some of these safety techniques already. It's scary how cell phones have left so many vulnerable. Especially women. This book is an important tool to help protect yourself at home, work and while traveling.

Well written, concise and easy to understand. While it covered some topics and tips I already know it have new insight on them as well as pointing out new ideas.

Very interesting book the author helps make you aware of situations that have the potential to put you in danger and gives advice on how to be more observant to detect danger or how to avoid danger. This book has great tips and information about being aware of your surroundings and how to best use the situation and environment to your advantage. Although you might think that it is mostly common sense, we tend to make mistakes in our busy lives unintentionally exposing ourselves to danger by not giving a second thought to our surroundings or how safe or trustworthy people are around us.

The author starts by talking about situational awareness and gives a detailed analysis on how to keep yourself secure at home, in the street and at work. The author shares multiple ways you can secure your home it covers modern alarm systems, old locks and adding windows and door reinforcements. He makes you aware of the common and also obvious items and other knick-knacks you can use to slow down the attacker and defend yourself and your family.

He includes a crash course on physically defeating attackers if they come at you. This was done with the aid of pictures which, unfortunately are missing in the kindle version that I downloaded so I couldn’t refer to them. However, the rest of the information was very well presented and informative.

Overall the book offers a practical view of how to stay safe in variety of situations. The author explains potential dangers using many real life examples and experiences that people have had. This book is relatable and easy to understand offering multiple solutions to help prepare you to remain safe.

A great, insightful read! I will be rereading and referring to this guide in the future. The writing is clear and concise and I did not find it difficult to follow. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

A very good book, written in a straightforward no-nonsense way that’s easy to understand. Lots of great tips on how to help stay safe and to be more aware of what’s going on around you. In our busy lives it’s easy to get absorbed into your own little world and forget to pay attention to what’s right in front of you. This reminds you of things you probably know already and also gives lots of new helpful tips. Excellent book, definitely worth reading and sharing with family & friends

While we have heard that offense is the best part of defense, it is not the advice that you will hear in Self Defense for Busy People.

The author on the other hand does make you aware of the situations that have the potential to put you in danger. He gives you the information you need to be aware of your surroundings and how to best use the situation and environment to your advantage. Although you might think that it is mostly common sense, we tend to commit these mistakes often in our busy lives running from one thing to another without giving a second thought to the conditions around us.

The author shares multiple ways you can secure your home. from modern alarm systems to old locks and additional windows and door reinforcements. He makes you aware of the common mistakes and also obvious appliances and other knick-knacks you can use to slow down the attacker and defend yourself and the family.

Overall the book offers a practical view of how to stay safe in every situation whether you are at home or out in a mall or street. The author explains potential dangers using many real examples and experiences that people have had. In an easy to understand ways and multiple solutions, the authors arms you to handle attacks and stay safe in every situation.

I know I am fortunate that I have never been physically attacked. Burglarized, rear-ended on a highway, and sexually harassed, yes. But never an imminent personal threat. The author, an expert on personal safety, suggests a multitude of techniques that he promises will increase your safety. Primary is Situational Awareness, just knowing what's going on around you. In this day of cellphone addiction, when a large proportion of people never look up from their screens, this one tip would make many people - women, in particular - safer.

The author goes on to detail a number of physical techniques beyond merely knowing what's going on around you. Elbow strikes, groin slaps, and things of that sort. I'm five-one and of retirement age to put it delicately. Some of the techniques I found hysterically funny simply because a: most people don't have is warning of an attack, b: the physical strength is lacking, and c: the attacker is almost always bigger and primed for violence. Primed for violence is not my default setting.. I think of the recent shooting rampage in Texas in which three police officers were left flat-footed, taken totally by surprise, as a gunman murdered innocent people. If highly-trained professionals can't get it together, what hope is there for me? I'd like to have seen that problem addressed more fully.

The book no doubt will offer some comfort to the more physically fit in our society, particularly males with their usually superior muscle mass and already honed aggression. Younger women as well will find it useful. The notion that it can't happen to you is delusional. In 21st century America, anything can happen to anybody. Just reading the book will help to reinforce what ought to be better habits of self-protection (get your face out of that phone!), and might offer some psychological support for those of us who have never been assaulted. Being a sitting duck is never a good option and the author does a good job of raising awareness of threat.

But...the physical condition and mental state required to pull off the majority of suggestions is, to my mind, simply not attainable regardless of intent or practice. As a pep-talk, the book is useful. As a guide to survival, for me it is not. The intent gets it a 5, but the overall impact and effect gets it a 3.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, BooksGoSocial, for the opportunity to review this book in advance of publication.

This was a really good read. The author starts by talking about situational awareness and then gave a detailed analysis on how to keep yourself secure at home, in the street and at work. I received a free book from NetGalley.

This is a very good book on being ready to different situations. Sometimes obvious things are the ones we do not pay attention to and this may leads to insecure situations and issues. Great job done to give heads up on those.

A great, insightful read! I will be rereading and referring to this guide in the future. The writing is clear and concise and I did not find it difficult to follow. However, there are grey blocks that I'm assuming are supposed to be pictures. I hope that this is rectified.
Will recommend to anyone hoping to pick up a few tips to stay safe.

A great read! It has plenty of reminders of safety tips that most of us probably know already and a few that I hadn’t known but I’m definitely filing away ! I highly recommend this to anyone who want to feel safe in this not so safe world we live in!

Most of this is things that we've heard piece by piece over the years, but still a nice compilation and something you should re-read occasionally to stay out of complacency. This would make a great gift for graduates heading off into the world alone for the first time, or folks heading out for world travels. My beef with it is that there are supposed to be pictures, but version I got had just a bunch of grey squares, so it would refer to the pictures and you couldn't see what they were talking about... Hopefully this is an ARC-specific issue.
