This book was the best!! You will definitely find a common link to the main character in this one. You will laugh out loud at some parts and completely sympathize with some.

Faking It is Rebecca Smith's follow up to More Thank Just Mum, which I haven't read but now want to! Hannah Thompson is a mother of three, and she is exhausted. She spends all her energy caring for her family, and trying to keep the logistics of their family unit afloat. After taking a stab at writing a book, her version of erotica, she is pleasantly surprised when her book is published and quickly begins to sell. Her editor quickly encourages her to write a sequel, but the pressure to become a "Sex-goddess" combined with all the normal stressors of her life become a challenge. Hannah finds that by trying to embody the persona of her pseudonym Twinky Malone, she learns much more about herself than she every could have realized... and its exciting.

I adored this book, it was delightful and hilarious. As a mother of two, I connected so much with Hannah's feelings of exhaustion, loss of identity, and anxiety over her children growing up. Her journey to self discovery brings with it so many beautiful moments of enlightenment and empowerment, as well as laugh out loud humour. I felt Hannah's voice reminded me a lot of Bridget Jones, one of my favourite women's humour heroines. This book was a bright light, and I read it quickly, loving every moment!

Overall I enjoyed this book, however I found it to be a bit too slow for me. It wasn’t until Sex Con that I really laughed out loud, which was quite far into the book. It’s a easy to pick up so one for most people who like chilled stories, with a bit of sex chat

This book is absolutely bloody brilliant! I loved all of it! The Protagonist is a 44 year old mother of 3, an English teacher and on the side, an erotic writer. Super easy to read, moreish, laugh out loud, feel good! My friends will love this when it comes out!

As a mother of 4 who is also a wife and teacher I can say that this book was just what I needed! The characters were so realistic and easy to just fall in love with!

Hannah and Nick also seriously #couplegoals! I love how they are right there on the same page and encourage each other! The family bickering and hilarious friends just really had me going! This book is seriously a must read for any person feeling like they are going in circles! It’s a beautiful and inspirational read that had a bit of kink and some hilarious moments that will keep you rolling with laughter!

With quotes like this;” ‘Uni is great and I’ve met so many excellent people but there’s something about the crazy of home that I don’t think you can find anywhere else.’” You just know you’re in for a great adventure in the pages of this book!

This book was a laugh. I really enjoyed the spin of the housewife stepping into something a little more risque.

That auther has a great wit and is very clever in the way she can build her imagery with so many humorous moments.

A fun read

I enjoyed the first book by this author and I was looking forward to catching up with Hannah in Faking It.

Hannah has just had her first erotic novel published under the pseudomyn Twinky Malone and she now has to write a sequel. The story follows Hannah and the craziness she surrounds herself with as she attempts to write the follow up to her first novel all while trying to keep it a secret from her kids.

From Hannah’s efforts at spicing up her marriage to her fragile relationship with her feisty teenage daughter Scarlet, this book will put a smile on your face and if you are looking for a lighthearted fun filled read this is definitely the book for you.

This story made me laugh out loud with laughter, Hannah is very relatable and voices many things that we all think. In fact, it feels like Hannah is a friend. It is a perfect funny read that is truly empowering.

The premise for this book was different and that resulted in an enjoyable reading experience.
Hannah Thompson seems like an ordinary woman: she is trying to balance her part-time job as an English teacher with worrying about her family. They have financial worries and then she has the pain of coping with her oldest child going off to college where it seems he’s going to be more involved with alcohol and young women than his courses. And then there is her teenage daughter who seems to be stretching every possible rule to challenge her mother. This would be enough for any woman to worry about, but Hannah is also a published author of an erotic, comedy novel. And now she’s struggling to write a sequel, but just doesn’t feel the magic.

Her attempts to waken her inner sex goddess is quite amusing. Another pleasant aspect for the novel is that her husband is so supportive of her efforts. I really liked him and I’m glad that Hannah comes to realize how lucky she really is.

The book that she’s writing sounds incredibly dopey, but her own life was very entertaining.

Hannah is a 40 something mum who juggles being a mother, wife, teacher, and a secret erotica author of “More than Sex” using a pseudonym “ Twinky Malone”.

Hannah’s publishers have asked her to write a sequel to her original book but she is finding it difficult coming up with ideas for the storyline as well as carrying on her “normal” life and hoping that her teenage children do not find out her secret.

The characters were great and easy relatable to, especially when Hannah struggles as her son leaves home for University. For me, the only real funny bit of the book was when Hannah attended “Sex Con” (Comic Con but sexy) and sadly, it took me until about half way through the book to actually start getting into the story.

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book but sadly I only score it 3 stars.

An excellent read with lots of laughs throughout. An easy feel good read which is well written and easy to follow and thoroughly enjoyable

Faking It will make you cry with laughter, the main protagonist has such a strong and relatable voice, it's like your sat with a glass of wine with your friend having a good catch up, after not seeing each other for a while, and she's telling you hilarious things that have been happening in her life.

A feel-good read.

I found this book to be funny and a great read! I think a lot of people will relate to the life that Hannah has found herself in. How she tries to change it is novel for this sort of book and it kept me engaged throughout. Would certainly recommend!

Before the first chapter had even finished, I'd already lost count of how many time I'd laughed out loud. My stomach genuinely hurt. The witty narration and relatable thoughts were one of the things I loved so much about this book. Relating to a mother who is an erotica writer in her private time isn't someone I thought I'd relate to, but Smith does a brilliant job of making Hannah's character one who anyone can take bits from and find them in ourselves.

One aspect of Faking It that caused me to smile to myself whenever it was brought up was how body and sex positive it is. The subject of sex is inevitable, especially when the main character writes about that exact thing when she isn't teaching high school students. Hannah truly grows as a character and realises that just because she's a mum, doesn't mean she can't wear clothes that seem intimidating but ultimately make her feel amazing - that goes for both a simple pair of skinny jeans and a latex jumpsuit fit for a dominatrix (yes, really). These positive lessons lead to Hannah's multiple discussions about feminism with her daughter, which I adored. Talk of feminism isn't shoved down the reader's throat but it's there nonetheless and, on a personal note, was something I wish my own parents had taught me more about from a younger age. However, there was a particular conversation about strippers that showed Hannah could be quite the hypocrite. The discussions of feminism didn't quite reach the career choice of being a stripper, it seems.

When a book is written from the first person perspective, it tends to put me off as I think it can easily destroy a story. But not this. Going through Hannah's inner monologue about the small things - work colleagues, a particularly controlling mum at her youngest son's school - added that level of realism. It made me think of how I perceive others around me and how we all have similar thoughts, whether we like to admit it or not.

Is this a masterpiece? No. But I'll tell you what it is: a hilarious, light-hearted, brilliantly written piece of women's fiction that will have you laughing loud enough to wake someone sleeping next to you. Trust me, that's spoken from experience.

It's a quick read, and nothing new. The same old trope of a white woman 'finding herself' in middle-age.
The humour felt forced. I feel like it can easily be made into one of those B-grade summer movies that are an instant hit with SAHMs.

This book was laugh out loud funny. There were many scenes in the book where I found myself cackling to myself. I really enjoyed the authors depiction of motherhood, children leaving the nest, and sexuality. I found this book really enlightening, heartwarming, and sweet. The characters were all very realistic, easy to understand, and relatable. It’s one of my favourite romantic comedies this year.

Her struggling to write about anything that could be maybe thought of as a little bit sexually adventurous, this she has a problem with as she is supposed to be an erotica writer.

A 40something mum secretly writes erotica, desperately trying to keep her work from her children.

The blurb sounded really interesting and an enjoyable read. The book was ok. It was lighthearted and funny in a few places.

I struggled to get into this book and found myself skim reading copious amounts of dialogue between characters.

I realy wanted to love this book, but it was just ‘ok’ for me.

She’s funny and her insecurities are real, her struggles and discovery of confidence were fun to read about: I really liked this book and found it to be an overall great read!

Hannah is balancing being a mother, wife, teacher, and a secret erotica writer. This novel was absolutely amazing and hilarious. It was a fun and fast pace read. Her inner dialogue and conversations with others had me laughing so hard, making me wonder the last time I had laughed as hard as I did when I read this book.

I highly recommend this book to those who love witty dialogues and brilliant writing.
