I found Adrienne to be somewhat boring and bland. And the story just, it was alot of things happening, but it wasn`t happening much still.

This was cute. I love historical romances and this one was a very unique one. A bit slow at first, but I loved how the characters were all fleshed out. I recommend it.

I always try to wait till at least 50% to DNF and I made it exactly to 50 before I couldn’t anymore. I just kept falling asleep every time I tried to read it. I honestly couldn’t tell you any names of the characters because it was so slow.
I’m sure some will find this a very fun and easy read, and maybe on another day, I would’ve agreed. I will probably try this book again in the future, because it seems like a book I would like.

I enjoyed this historical romance with the two main characters that were Adrienne Castle and Lord Dominic Creighton. And also the rest of the characters to.

Adrienne Castle must find a way to help support her family so they can return to England.  She has come up with the idea to try to winning money by gambling at the gaming houses. But to do this she must come up with a disguised to make sure no one will notice her. But when her brother falls ill she has to seek the help from her wealthy distant cousin.

Lord Dominic Creighton has been told by his mother to help a distant cousin out. But when the young woman comes and tells him that they don't need his help. After this he seeks her out and finds out that her young brother is very ill. The place that they live it is in the more poorer part of town so he has them all move to his home.

This story was fun to read. It does have a few sad part towards the end of the book because of the war. There are quite a bit of funny parts to. I like the surprise ending for this book it was quite sweet.

Unfortunately this book was a DNf for me. I got through about 35% but was so bored.
All of the characters were flat and had no personality. I didn't see any connection between the leads including the fact that H kept referring to h as a child like her siblings.
This just didn't work for me.

This was an interesting book to read. It told of the life of a young Jewish girl, who lived in the Second World War and was later adopted by an American couple. I found bits of it hard as I do not really understand much about American history but still read the book to learn what happened to the girl.

Not a typical romance, but an enjoyable one. She gets a help from a man who is in love with another woman. Aunt Betty is a great and very lovely character in this book that portrays love and hope in this book. The main characters growth is fascinating here. You will cheer for them and after reading this book you will want to read more books by this author - just like me.

I really liked this book. The main character Adrienne was easy to like and whitty enough to keep you interested in her story. Her extended family added some depth to the story. The Earl has some flare to him that made him engaging, likeable and enough backbone to stand his ground when necessary. Some of the language and writing styles took me a little bit to get used to, but overall I really liked the book. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read it.

This is my first Dorothy Mack story, but not my last. Her characters are developed so beautifully. I couldn't help but worry about Dominic and cheer for Adrienne. I won't write a review that is a spoiler. The Last Waltz is a love story set in the time of the Battle of Waterloo. There is a so much going on and so many interesting people! I especially enjoyed Becky, Adrienne's aunt. She is a little older and filled with such love for the family she cares for. Get this book, you will thoroughly enjoy it.

The Last Waltz was a beautiful tale of true loving being found in the most unexpected places. For me, the story started out a little slow but once all the characters had been introduced it flowed nicely all the way through the end. Half way in I couldn’t put the book down. I was hooked to see how it all came together.

Dorothy Mack put a great deal of thought into the character development of this book. Adrienne was identifiable and lovable. It was easy to want to her happily ever after to be fulfilled. I enjoyed the way social class structure was subtly pointed out. Adrienne lacked the simple social graces that would have helped her find a “good husband”. This book really showed that one could not simply jump up into a social circle above that which you were born into.

I would give The Last Waltz a 3.5/5 stars. I was a good story with enjoyable characters.

The Last Waltz by Dorothy Mack was a nice historical novel. The setting was during the time period after Napoleon escaped Elba and the Battle of Waterloo. It was a bit of a change than the world of the ton in London, as the characters were in Brussels.

Adrienne Castle is struggling to survive with her two younger brothers and their companion. Her father has died and while Becky (companion) is insistent that they contact Lady Creighton, a distant cousin. That is when Lord Dominic Creighton comes into their lives to help them at the request of his mother. Little did he know, his life was changed forever! Adrienne was just such a surprise to Dominic.

I enjoyed the different setting and the storyline. However, Adrienne’s age is never announced and it is expected, she is old enough. While that one aspect did bother me, I found the story interesting. The Last Waltz by Dorothy Mack was an interesting read.

Miss Adrienne Beckworth was the oldest of Matthew's three children. Their Aunt Becky had assumed their care but they were all destitute. They took in sewing hoping to keep a roof over their head and a little food in their mouth. Adrienne had decided to gamble and see if she could increase their money for food. Unfortunately, that is how her father lost all their money. Becky wanted to write to her father's relative, Lady Creighton in England.
Colonel Lord Creighton, son of the Lady, comes to rescue the family of four. He moves them into his house. The youngest boy is terribly ill and needs constant care. They are in Brussels just before Waterloo. Napoleon has escaped from Elba and his troops gather around him. Dominick is with Wellington and the French are coming. Dominick is engaged to Lady Tremayne. She was very vain and not nice at all.
A wonderful story of love, fear, war's, being poor, and finding family. I really loved it. The two youngest boys were into mischief, Luc the oldest wanted to join and fight in the war but he was too young. All the characters were engaging and fun. The tale was so entertaining and kept your interest. It can be read by any age group without a problem.

Adrienne to me is a conundrum. She wants to win money the same way as 'her dead beat dad' lost money. It an idea, but I don't know if its a good one. Is it a good thing to gamble with what little you have?

This was typical Regency romance and I loved it. It was also very suitable for a particularly stressed out few days when I never knew whether I was coming or going!!

Location was Brussels at the height of the war with Napoleon on their doorstep. Adrienne has two young brothers and Becky who has been their protector and guide. Now without a penny to their name Becky turns to their only hope Lord Creighton whose mother was a dear friend of Adrienne's mother. Becky is also alarmed at Adrienne's insistence on changing their fortunes by going to houses where gambling takes place. Without a guardian or a male protector Adrienne is vulnerable though she is not aware of the dangers.

The story goes on with Lord Creighton's beautiful fiancee who does not wish to play second fiddle to the poor relations of her partner. Adrienne discovers only much later her actual feelings for the Lord and thankfully it all ends well despite the ups and downs of true love!

The setting was lovely, the characters were all masterful and I enjoyed reading this book.

When I first started reading the story I thought well… Then I got into it talk about an emotion Filled book. We have delicious Dylan’s this time a woman. A woman you would love to hate. We have heroes male and female. We have family dynamics. We have unrequited love. We have characters of stories makes sense. Honorbound they have to do what is right. And don’t we all love a story in which people do what is right? Finally I’ll romances have a good ending but it’s a good author who makes you not want to put the book down. This is not to be missed

This historical story is set in Brussels just before the time of the Battle of Waterloo, June 1815 Allied forces, consisting of British, Dutch, Belgian and German soldiers, thwarted the attempts of European domination by the French general and emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. This battle marked the end of the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815), Waterloo was the definitive battle for Wellington and and Napoleon and the war which took the lives of 5 million people. This site tells us a little about what was happening in Brussels from 1812 after until just before the Battle and the novel continues with this society as its backdrop. There was a social whirl that ex-pat Britons and their Continental compatriots enjoyed, including of course, the Officers from the Allied Forces - who were very dashing and usually of a high social rank as such rank was purchased for the young family scions.
So against this background we have the story of a small family struggling with poverty but well-bred and distantly related to those with more money and titles. It was common amongst the better off in English society to take in poorer relatives and help them either to launch themselves into Society, or to find suitable employment. Here we have a child with rheumatic fever, which of course is serious even today and then could easily kill or leave sufferers with heart conditions. Whilst this disease is now rare, in the late eighteenth century it was more common and also becoming recognised as a result of streptococcal infections that include pharyngitis, impetigo, and scarlet fever but rarely recognised as the continuum of these illnesses. It becomes Rheumatic Fever when it begins to affect the organs. Scarlet fever seems to occur in waves and thus rheumatic fever follows.
Part of the storyline involved the game of Piquet and gambling. Piquet is a card game rarely played these days, it is a 2 player game with 32 cards. Similar to whist it has card combinations and tricks but where the object is to reach 100 points within 6 deals. If you fail to reach 100 then you are penalised. I guess you gamble on winning the 100 points. There is a set of complicated instructions about being called the Elder or the Younger that you can obtain if you really want to play by a gentleman called David Parlett. Interestingly the rules now played were not established until much later in the 19th century than this book is set even though the game started in the 16th century. You can also buy sets of Piquet cards.
I liked this story. It was complex and long enough to develop the characters and their situation and imbed it into a historical context. The style was easy to read and flowed well.

Our main character Adrienne Castle wants to save her family from poverty that her father left them in debt because of his bad gambling habits and his tendency to lose. While they could pay of these debts they didn't have much money left for food and raising 3 children.
Adrienne suggests to go and play cards to win money for her family and when she's gained enough she would get them out of Brussels.

Adrienne's father's friend that lives with them - Miss Beckworth, suggests that they just go to Lady Creighton and ask for help. Adrienne declines and tells her that gaming for money would be a much better option than to ask for help.

Miss Beckworth allows Adrienne to go to the gaming club after Adrienne says that she'll disguise herself with a wig to hide her hair that garners her a lot of attention. The first few nights in the gaming club are successfull and Adrienne comes home with lots of money.

After an incident at the gaming club Miss Beckworth decides to ask Lady Creighton for help despite Adrienne's protests about it, and Lord Creighton who we find out is Lady Creighton's son and not husband doesn't seem very happy about taking care of an orphaned family at first.

Lord Creighton whose name is Dominic just recently got engaged with a very beautiful woman named Lady Tremiaine or Pamela Tremaine, he even describes her several times to be the most beautiful woman he has ever seen.
Pamela is shown to be very jealous of Adrienne's relationship with Dominic even though it was very innocent and even her brother called her out on it. She is also described by Dominic to be very beautiful though she lacks in personality.

Adrienne is a very selfless and independent character, she's also described to be clumsy by her brother although not in a bad way. She is bilingual and it helps with her temporary disguise at the gaming club. Her relationship with her brothers is very adorable and they seem to love each other a lot. Her brother sometimes embarasses her by revealing things she does or never learned.

Dominic is said to be the best dancer in Brussels at one point though I'm not very sure if that was just a compliment since it was only mentioned once.

Adrienne and Dominic were a very sweet couple in my opinion, at first Adrienne accidentally overhears him saying he needs to take care of three half-french bastards and she tells him he absolutely does not and storms out, Dominic chases her but turns right back when someone in the room yells the words ''pipe-breaker''.

I thought Adrienne and Dominic's development was too slow but cute nontheless and their dialogue is very sweet, I do however think there should have been more romance in the book and that we should have gotten an epilogue showing them together.

I also think the book in general was sort of slow and that's why I'm giving it only 3.5 stars, I think a lot more stuff could have happened earlier in the book and the book overall could have been shorter and much more interesting to read.
But i absolutely adored the cover.

I would definitely recommend this book if you love historical romances and slowburn relationships.

It's a sweet roamntic little tale about Adrienne who is trying to win her family fortunes back. It's all a little predictable.
But I liked the fact that there was plenty of historical detail and background blended in to the story also.
