After reading the blurb, i did not have any expetations. It sounded extremely bad and awkward. The blurb was all over the place. But honestly? It was very much smut and felt like very little plot. Some stuff was thrown into it and felt extremely random and unessesary to begin with. How Alaric and Cathrine was bound together? and how she agreed to be his "muse/research assistant" felt just...wierd? Sim? Why was he even needed there? I could have done without him tbh. I liked the part where we got snippit of the book and was very interested in that and the characters there. But the chemistry between Alaric and Cathrine was meh. The smut felt a bit too much as times, we could have gotten more to know the characters instead.


2. 5 - 2.75 stars.

This is not a great book, in my opinion. There are so many other books that feature a main character falling for a rich guy, and all of the romantic drama that ensues. Skip this one.

So, this book was definitely different from the ones I normally read, which I liked. It made for an interesting premise that I really enjoyed. I liked the characters and enjoyed the book. I recommend.

Holy smokes!!! This book is all fire, steam and angst. Oh my word. At first I was not going to rate this because it was just sex scene after sex scene after sex scene but as the story progressed so did the characters. I enjoyed the analogy between the fictional story and the author's life.

I only knocked off a star because Caterine sometimes annoyed me with her constant need to be validated.

Once Upon a Time bugged me from the start. I hated it. I couldn't be bothered to finish it and it ended up being a DNF for me.

I haven't read any romance novels like this one in a while.  The stories are always a little off the wall in these, and this story was no different.  The characters always tend to have names you'd otherwise not hear, and this story was no different.  It had kind of 3 stories going on at once.  The story of Alaric and Caterine, the conflict between Alaric and his family (mainly his father) and then the fictional piece that Alaric was writing about Erica and Charles - a historical fiction romance.

Alaric writes romance books. But he writes them in a way that is a little unorthodox.  He has a "muse" aka a "research assistant" who acts out the scenes with his college roommate, Sim, allowing Alaric to pick up all the little details of the encounters that otherwise might be missed if he were to just write from his imagination.  Each book, he chooses an assistant that looks like the character to "act" these scenes out.  We first meet him trying to find his Erica - he thinks it is Caterine but after she is getting harassed by a dude with a gun in a coffee shop - he doesn't think it is the time to talk to her about it.  He ends up meeting up with her again later at his book signing (go figure!) and she agrees (after lots of persuading) to take on this odd job offer.  But for Alaric, there is something different about this one.

Alaric and his twin sister are the heirs to the "White Chocolate" fortune - his father is deathly ill in the book and Alaric doesn't like the man his father is and wants nothing to with with him or the chocolate. (Book is also set in Pennsylvania for some of it, so I imagine this is the "Hershey Chocolate" equivalent - but the families last name is White)  His father ends up giving him a ridiculous task that he MUST complete that oddly links Caterine and his families together.  If he doesn't complete the task, his twin sister will lose HER inheritance too.  Either way Alaric will hurt someone - his sister or Caterine and he isn't quite sure who he wants to hurt.

And finally - Erica and Charles.  They got married before Charles went off to war and he comes back disfigured.  Will they consummate their marriage now that he is a beast? Or will he keep going to brothels?

Alaric made a comment to Caterine that the genre all has happy endings - it was just a matter of figuring out how they got there.  Which was of course a bit of foreshadowing for the "real" story line in the book as well... or was it?

I thought the sexy scenes were well done and plentiful but the story was a little lacking and the characters not particularly interesting.

3.5 Stars!!! This book was more on the erotic side then romance in my opinion. There was no build up to the sexy stuff but was in your face from almost page 1. I feel like we really follow 4 characters in this book: Erica/Caterine and Charles/Alaric. While Alaric and Caterine are the main characters in the book Alaric is an erotic romance writer and he is looking for the right woman to model Erica after. He does not want a woman that has a lot of experience but he also does not want a virgin. By fate they meet at a coffee shop and later at a book signing with Caterine goes to have her best friends book signed by the author. I thought the chemistry between the character was intense but I did not care for how their relationship started. I loved how you could see the story of these two work out in the story of Erica and Charles. It was real life being put out there in the world as art in Alaric's book. The biggest problem I had in this book was the sex between Caterine and Sim. If Alaric had feelings for her why would he have ever let Sim touch her. It was hard to grasp the concept behind this.

So this one is an unusual book. Alaric famous billionaire /writer finds, at last, his muse for his latest book in Cat. But will Cat accept his job offer? Because Alaric wants to see al the thing which he writes so that means Cat will have to have some really steamy scenes with another man in front of him because Alarc is an erotic writer. He is thrilled that she said yes but on another hand doesn't want her to share. And let's not forget the last request from his dying father. Very hot and steamy book with a unique story. This is also the first time that I read a book in a book. I like how all develop in the end and I am waiting to see the next one.

When I sat I could NOT set this down I fully mean it! I love Cat and Alaric! Just about as much as I love Erica and Charles! There love is an interesting mix of wholesome and sultry! It definitely keeps your head spinning with wondering what will happen next in their lives and in the book Alaric is writing ! Zoe is the girl next door and I adore her and her love for Cat! I really hope I can get my hands on more books from Luna Doerr!

I really wanted to give this book 5 stars but it wasnt what I was expecting. The title doesnt do it justice either. I think it would have been a much better book if it wasnt quite as long. It kind of dragged on and I was tempted to stop reading it. I will say that the story line was much different then all the others I've read and had great potential. It truly would have been a great short story but it was much too long and not in the good way.

I liked this book as a whole. Got me engaged since the beginning. It is a story withing a story with hot, scorching scenes. If you are looking for detailed sex scenes, this is a good source.

The chemistry between the MC was not powerful but present.

The Male MC is a writer, ok so far so good right, wrong! When writing his books, instead of using old plain imagination he uses some other unorthodox methods, real life examples to describe his scenes. But who am I to judge. I actually enjoyed the reading.

I like the continuity of the narrative point of view. This book has first and third person, I personally prefer just one, been first person my favorite.

The Female MC, was too weak for my taste, I like strong female characters. A woman who knows what she wants and go for it. She was just letting her need for money cloud her judgement. It was not till three quarters into the book that she let her creative side bloom. She was not my favorite.

HEA ending

This one was a little too much for me but I can see how people who are into the billionaire trope might like it.

I hadn't expected this to be quite so "in your face." It reads like basically a Fifty Shades book, complete with inexperienced young girl who is naive and desperate. Not really my cup of tea.

This review is actually three and a half stars. The title of the book is a bit misleading, I would have gone with something like the His Muse. There is no office per se, unless you think of the bedroom as an office. It is well written, thou.

Since Caterine graduated with her masters in Library Research, she hasn’t been able to find a job. After she drove to Virginia for an interview, Caterine heads on over to a coffee shop where there is a book signing by a romance writer that her roommate Zoe is crazy about and wants his latest book signed.

Alaric has been looking for his next muse, someone to give him the inspirations he needs to write his next book. At a book signing, he spots a beautiful blond goddess and instantly he knows that is his Erica. The fact that she doesn’t even know who he is, makes it even better. She’s never read any of his books. On a hunch, the morning after, he runs into her and offers her a job as his assistant. Explains what the job entails, and hopefully, she won’t run for the hills. Yes his assistants perform sex with his friend Sims, as Alaric watches and writes about it. A bit unconventional.

Caterine is enjoying her new job, however, she wishes that the sex scenes were with Aleric and not his friend Sims. Aleric is becoming more possessive with Caterine and decides he doesn’t want Sims in the picture with her. The fact that Alaric is developing feelings for Caterine, doesn’t sit well with him.

This was not your usual romance novel, so if you’re looking for something different and erotic, then this is the book for you.
