I'm really starting to enjoy the Europe Comics publications.

This one follows the murders of women in Mexico where they keep finding decapitated bodies and the heads are missing. As this suggests, it was very gruesome and violent, so, beware, it's not for everyone.
I enjoyed the sort of "dirty" feel to it; the art is grim and smudgy. However, the font used for the dialogue was the same, and sometimes I had a hard time reading it.

Interpol agent Clare Burnell joins forces with morally ambiguous privado (private detective) Pablo Tikal to catch a serial killer. A killer who casually discards the bodies of decapitated women but keeps their heads.

This graphic novel does a great job of creating a noir atmosphere. The art has a rough, blunt quality to it. The characters have indistinct facial features that allow for a certain amount of reader interpretation that works pretty well... The downside is that the female agent sometimes looks a bit too much like a caricature (cartoonish) with exaggerated curves more befitting of a parody than a serious narrative.

It all takes place in a gritty, violent version of Mexico where "There's so much violence that if judgement day arrived tomorrow, no one would notice."

The lettering is a bit difficult to read at times, I kept having to enlarge individual panels to get clarity on what was being said. There are gaps and jumps in the plot that had me going "Wait, what? Where did that come from?"

I thought the privado character was much more interesting and fully realized than the Interpol agent who just seemed to be along for the ride. I'd be more interested in a series featuring Pablo Tikal, or characters similar to him, than spending more time with the Interpol aspect of it.

It was okay. Neither outstanding nor disappointing.

This was a marginally interesting graphic novel. I liked that it was based on a true story, as it made it all the more creepy. I loved the detail in the illustrations and appreciated that they included the gore. The story itself progressed in kind of a weird way and I didn't like the relationship between the Interpol agent and the P.I., but I think that was because I didn't see the need for a romantic side story. I also felt like there was something missing from the story and that we didn't have an essential backstory. Overall, it was good and interesting, but nothing fantastic.

Another successful graphic novel by Europe Comics.
In his first edition of Interpol we are taken into the dark criminal world of Mexico where corruption and drug funded ruthless gangs oversee law and order.
A serial killer is at work; his preferred method of dispatch is decapitation. Sadly this mirrors how drug traffickers deal with the competition and obstacles in the way. A Mexican woman’s headless body does little to motivate the local police. However, a number of foreign women are missing and when these victims turn up Interpol are dispatched in the form of agent Clare Burnell. She joins forces with a local personal investigator, Pablo Tikal who although less than conventional and not expressive with the truth they hold on to a loose alliance.
It is a thrill driven story packed with violent scenarios and a rising body count.
I liked the flashes of humour and dark elements of earthy violence that overwhelm the narrative. This is supplemented by terrific images of gun violence and gang intervention.
The overall package is a terrific crime thriller, well produced and aptly suited for this medium of a graphic novel. It also sets up the series as both main characters have unrevealed elements and each carry the story well. I would like to spend time with either in future comics and crime episodes that follow.

Interpol by Script by Philippe Thirault / Art by Marty.
A highly dubious investigation in the heat and humidity of Mexico's badlands. When headless women's bodies are found all across Mexico City, Interpol agent Clare Burnell faces the indifference of the local police and the ultra-violence of gangs of drug traffickers. Her only choice is to team up with Pablo Tikal, a P.. whose methods are as effective as they are unorthodox.
A fantastic read. I loved the story. Very gruesome. The artwork was brilliant. Loved it. 5*.
