Louisa George is really good at creating believable, three-dimensional characters. Often I find that romances invent conflict between hero and heroine – conflict that doesn’t really have to be there except for the fact that this is a romance and we can’t have the main characters fall in love too soon. Louisa George doesn’t fall into that trap. Her characters have a genuine reason for why they aren’t together at the moment.

What I love about A Puppy and a Chrismas Proposal – among many things – is that Alex had a good reason for leaving Beth in the past. Like Beth, I didn’t agree with him, but it does make sense to him as a character. He has a good backstory and as a reader, you can understand where he’s coming from, even if you don’t totally agree with him.

Likewise, Beth has a good reason not to trust Alex and to be mad at him for leaving her. I really liked Beth’s character. She’s a strong woman, but not too strong for love. The happy ending was very satisfying.

A non traditional medical romance with a sinister undertone set in the Lake District this book caught my attention from the beginning and had me hooked way past bedtime!
Beth and Alex had a traumatic breakup 8years ago and the reason that pulled them apart is still there in the background but this Christmas a lost and possibly abandoned puppy appears and pulls them back together
I enjoyed reading this book and especially liked that fact that the lead characters were a doctor and a vet. Beth takes such good care of her patients and her dedication is something that I would love to have if Magic ever got sick
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a medical romance (be warned it has some pretty graphic medical bits in) with a twist which is slightly unconventional but will catch your attention!

Alex and Beth were engaged to be married but without any warning he dumps her and moves away. Now he has come back home and when a wayward puppy decides to adopt him as his human he finds himself back in Beth's life as she is the local vet. This is a festive feel good story with all the warmth and romance of the christmas season. Beth and Alex must learn to trust again and overcome their past to have a future of their own.

A Puppy And A Christmas Proposal is published by M&B Medical and written by Louisa George. We first met these characters in A Nurse To heal Heal Heart. In this novel Veterinarian surgeon Beth Masters was devastated when Dr Alex Norton informed her he could no longer marry her. She next sees him in her clinic clutching a gorgeous stray puppy. Slowly the pair realise they still have feelings for each other but can they resolve and ultimately solve the problems that forced them apart the first time around.

A seasonal festive romance with the obligatory cute animal. A well written novel bit I wasn’t convinced by Alex’s family playing along with his narrative after the wedding was cancelled.

I received this book via Netgalley and Mills and Boon in exchange for a honest review. I am a #MillsAndBoonInsider #netgalley

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a rather sweet romance about a couple who once meant everything to each other and who were separated for reasons which become clear in the book. They meet up again properly when the hero discovers a stray puppy and and then they realise there are still feelings between them - but the question is can they resolve the difficulties which separated them and give themselves a happy ever after?

This was well written and the characters were believable and sympathetic but I never got excited by them. Nice settings and great sense of location.

I was also not very convinced by the way the hero’s family had played along with his actions after breaking off the engagement. However, I suspended disbelief and went along with it. A side story about a lonely old man and his sick animals was a bit creepy I thought.

A perfectly entertaining story but not really my cup of tea. Also, I like a little more hot sex in my romances but if you like less sex, then this is fine.

A great seasonal second chance romance, that also features a puppy, I was sold ! Two great leads with chemistry, a cute story, lots of nice side characters and a real festive feel. This is definitely one for a warm night indoors when it’s cold outside, it will leave you warm inside too.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

A vet and a doctor who’s teenage.romance had come to an abrupt ending. What is the mystery that caused the split and how will she feel when she discovers the reason that he ended their engagement? Enter a stray puppy who attached itself to the Dr and was in need of a vet. The rest, as they say, is history! An easy and enjoyable read especially for this season!

Another great Christmas read, I really liked this couple and the puppy added the 'cute' element. Second chance romance is one of my favourite tropes and Louisa nailed it with this book.

A nicely written romance with the twist of testicular cancer which affected the menfolk of a certain family and the impact that it would have on their future life - assuming that they survived. But it is worth noting that the general 5-year survival rate for men with testicular cancer is 95%. This means that 95 men out of every 100 men diagnosed with testicular cancer will live at least 5 years after diagnosis. The survival rate is higher for men diagnosed with early-stage cancer and lower for men with later-stage cancer. Unfortunately it can spread to the lymph nodes if not caught quickly and this makes it more dangerous. It most commonly diagnosed between 15 and 40 years of age.
Without this sub story we have a more normal romance which could have become rather sickly as puppies are rather Xmas obvious.

Louisa George whisks us back off to one of my favourite places The Lake District for her latest medical romance and a second chance between a couple who really do deserve their HEA.

“You’re using the puppy to get me back?”
“Desperate times. What can I say?”

Having met Alex and Beth in A Nurse to Heal His Heart, I wasn’t quite sure what their story would bring but from snowball fights and destructive puppies to medical emergencies, they brought a little bit of everything as they realise their hearts still belong to one another several years after their engagement ended. Heartwarming and festive, it didn’t quite hit the heights Joe and Rose’s story did for me but they were still a great couple and I love how Louisa George has incorporated a subject in both books that some of us, often privately, can relate with all too well.

“I just want you in my life. And not just for Christmas.”

If, like me you’re a fan of the author, second chances, doctors, cute puppy dogs or all of the above, you’ll not go far wrong here.
