77th and Broadway by Richard Wills is one of those reads that pulls you into a specific time, place, and energy—and doesn’t let go. This book feels like sitting on the stoop, watching the block unfold with all its beauty, struggle, and soul. It’s Black, bold, and rooted, and I was here for it.
The storytelling is layered—a mix of history, community, and personal journeys that feel so authentic. The characters are real, flawed, and full of heart. You can tell Wills knows these streets, these people, and this culture. There’s a rhythm to the way it’s written that made it feel like a love letter to the neighborhood, the hustle, and the legacy.
I’m giving it 4 stars because while I truly appreciated the depth and vibe, there were a few pacing moments that slowed me down just a little. But that didn’t take away from the impact—it’s a powerful read that deserves attention.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book immensely. Great writing and good character development. Highly recommended. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review.
