I loved this book, anyone who has a dog and knows how they change your life will appreciate the redemptive effect Wolfy had on the author. The search for the lost dog takes Kate to places she has never been to before and some of the people she meets change her perspective on life and love.

A really lovely book about why dogs are the absolute best, and can be an antidote to all of life’s ills.

A story about a 40 something woman, who finally takes responsibility for a lurcher and through him, for herself. It sounded adorable, and I found it so - up to a point. I suppose I'm more of a cat person. Cats are more independent. It's well written and funny, just not me.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I read an advance review copy of the book. This review is voluntary, honest and my own opinion.

A gorgeous, life affirming book about Kate Spicer and her love for her lurcher and what happens when he disappears.

This is a shaggy dog story with a heart as the author discovers so much more about herself and her life throughout her search for her beloved pet.

Beautifully written and inspirational, this is one of the books of the year.

Dog lovers will definitely connect with this, a book of two parts for me. Finding and falling for a manky looking crossbred Lurcher, with crazy days of dog walking and meeting other dog people who you never know by name. Then a manic fearful time of pain and loss when he goes missing . I will look at the posters for lost pets with less indifference now. . I read it in one sitting not wanting to finish it but knowing I must .

When does it get going?

I wanted to love this book. There’s a lot I did love about what I read of this book. I identified with a lot – I love dogs, I have dogs, my life revolves around them, I come from Notting Hill, I had a not dissimilar shallow, indulgent, fun life for a long time, so it ticked all the ‘appealing’, ‘familiar but different’ boxes. It read swiftly and easily and indulgently. Should have been my ideal read. BUT…
It just never got going. I got to 30% and, much as I love dogs and Notting Hill and shallow, indulgent lives, I found I skim read the latest in the long line of episodes about Wolfy’s adorableness and the shallow awfulness of, in this instance, Groucho’s for only letting in small dogs, and our heroine’s loyalty to her hound as she walked away from an evening of getting wrecked in order to hang with her hound, and I’d had it. I abandoned.
I’m a dog lover – the thought of a lost dog makes my heart shudder. I wanted to see how she managed to lose him, and how the new doggy friends rallied, or didn’t, to help, and how it rocked her newly harmonious relationship, and how her world fell apart only to come back into even better balance when Wolfy miraculously came home, but instead blah blah blah – even I have limits to how much ‘happy dog, happy owner’ anecdotes I can read instead of an actual story.
I wanted to love it. I did love a lot about it. But I wanted a story more. Sorry. And Wolfy sounds ADORABLE btw. Love him big time.

Loved this book I have 2 dogs and I can relate to how this lady hunted high and low for her dog. Dogs are part of your family and unless you are a pet lover you will not understand this story

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I found it quite difficult to get into and fully engage with this book although it did improve over time. I liked the story of how the dog created a new way of living for the author but I didn't feel there was enough meat to the bones of this book

"I'm sure there are scientific attempts to explain it. But I don't know, darling, I don't think anyone has ever adequately explained the bond between mankind and the dog."

Heartbreakingly sincere and poignant; Spicer's anti-speciesist memoir is the perfect summation and exploration of the companionship that transcends the dinstintion of species.

A book for dog lovers and it was funny in parts. Set in and around west London, there are some good characters but the style of writing and vulgar language at times, just left me disappointed. I read it over a day. My thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
