I’ve now decided I have mixed feelings about reading Slaughter’s work. On the one hand I look forward to another really good read but, on the other hand, I’m almost dreading the horrific details of the murders. Of course, it is the details the author includes that ensure a believable read and, obviously, no murder or violent act should make the reader feel comfortable.
Slaughter’s introduction to the victims successfully adds to the tension - you just know it is inevitable something terrible is about to happen. Her detectives are determined and yet human but she doesn’t dwell overly on their personal problems which I find some detective thrillers are guilty of.
If you like your procedural detective thrillers with plenty of gritty detail this is for you.

Excellent book and good story line

Wow, just wow ... first of all thank you to Netgalley for opportunity to read this book.
I have been a huge fan of Karin Slaughter since I read her first book, and she never fails to keep me hooked. I devoured this book within 48 hours.
It was great to encounter Jeffrey (Sara's deceased husband) again, and revisit their relationship, and the contrast of Sara's relationship with Will compared to Jeffrey. It also brings back Lena who is still as mean and cutting.
The silent wife takes us back and forth of a span of 8 years, in which a convicted paedophile swears on his innocence over the blame he has over killing university students in the woods 8 years previously. He has what he sees as proof of a killer still at large. The fact that he was never formally charged for the murders is interesting. However it's like doing a deal with the devil as they know hes a convicted paedophile, yet the evidence is compelling that the real killer is still out there and abducting two women per year, some escape and some don't.
Will is forced to investigate Jeffrey's handling of the case, which does not sit easy with him as he is still so very insecure about Sara's feelings both towards him and Jeffrey.
The story is full of twists and turns that keeps you guessing.
Once again Karin Slaughter has pulled it out of the bag.
Will add the amazon link once its available.

This is a long book, that will take a while to read, but if you start it, you'll very likely finish it.

My response when I finished it was "Phew!", which in my opinion is the sign of a good book.

It is a brilliant read, and the characters weaving in and out are very well drawn. Their humanity and vulnerability as well as their public faces are well executed, with the plot stemming from a murder investigation triggered by a prisoner's assertion of innocence.

A great read for fans of Michael Connelly, or police whodunnits generally, or those interested in procedurally based crime thrillers.

I love Karin Slaughter and this didn’t disappoint. Will Trent and Grant County combined to make a fantastic story. I couldn’t put this down. Would highly recommend

What a welcome return for the Dr Sara Linton series and a look back into her earlier life with husband/ex husband Jeffrey Tolliver.
Karin knows how to pull you in right from the very start and this book is no exception.
A stalker is targeting women of Grant County, he brutally attacks the women. He is finally caught and is behind bars.
A decade later another woman is attacked with the same MO from the original killer, is it a copycat or had they put the wrong person away?
Sara and Will Trent have a hard time re-opening this case .
Is there time to solve it before another woman is attacked?

The tenth book in this series follows Agent Will Trent as he investigates the murder of a female college student.
A prisoner serving time has said that he is certain that this crime was carried out by the same man that was guilty of the crime he was accused of and this proves his innocence.
This is a dark and disturbing story of a predictor who brutally attacks young women.

I am a fan of Karin Slaughter, and have read the Will Trent Series a couple of years ago, and the Grant County series when they first came out. This novel is a combining of the two characters from the two series and has moved on following the events in those books.

In a nutshell, this starts off with a murder in a prison, then from there ends up involving a cold case with another murder. The way the novel unfolds is by flipping back and forward in time from present day to the time of the cold case.

If I’m being honest, when the time frame flipped to the past I didn’t realise, and it did cause some confusion as it referred to a character who had died earlier in the series (this isn’t a spoiler, as it is referenced in the present day timeline as well!).

The intricacies of the two stories unfolding gives the alternate views on what happened and how the past case was “resolved” and how any impacts are felt in the present. This was a good story, and I enjoyed trying to guess who had done it. If you enjoy psychological thrillers then this is a book for you.

Recommendation: Highly recommended.

As always Karin Slaughter did not disappoint. Yet again she delivered a fantastic and extremely intense thriller that will stay with me for a long time.

The GBI are on a hunt of a serial rapist and killer and the investigation will take them back in time to Grant County when the brutal crimes originated.

The Silent Wife is an incredibly chilling and terrifying novel. Be prepared for some graphic scenes as the level of violence is pretty high. Incredible writing, attention to details and well researched story make the book difficult to put down. As usual with the author’s books the characters are well crafted and fully developed. Fans of the Grant County series will not be disappointed either as the story flashed back to Jeffrey and his team.

Overall this is a great book and a brilliant addition to Will Trench series.

I wasn’t aware when I started reading that this was part of a series, having never read anything by Karin Slaughter before, however I was drawn in to the story line.. I love the work relationship between Will and Faith, and have reserved the first 2 books in the Will Trent series. I found myself reading faster towards the end of the book, to find out who was stalking and killing the girls and was surprised when the murderer was revealed.

Oh my! This book was so much better than I could have expected. I thought it was going to be a simple mystery, finding out the culprit, and then I can move onto the next book on my list, but surely after a few chapters I was so intrigued.

Every part of this book was so well thought out, and I adored flipping between the past and present because I learned more, and also it kept me on the edge of my seat with cliffhangers at the end of certain chapters, flipping back to the past to help really drive in the importance of an event or situation.

I really could not tell what the ending was going to be until I was about a chapter or two away, but even then, it was only when Slaughter wanted me to know that I did. I really wanted to be able to come out of this saying "Ha! I knew it was them!" but nope! I even tried highlighting thinking I read between the lines, but it was only at the end that I realised that I only realised when I was supposed to realise. The same time as the characters realised.

This is part of a 'series' of books about the characters it seems, but you need absolutely no knowledge of Slaughter's past books to get into this. I now know I will be going back into her long list of books and reading some more!

I really enjoyed her writing style and the speed of the investigation. I also enjoyed that each of the characters were built up rather than just supporting to the main storyline. It felt more real that they had their own problems in the midst of solving a murder mystery, like any person in the world would.

I rated this book 5 stars, and will definitely be adding more of Slaughter's books onto my TBR list! Happy reading!!

Having read all of Karin Slaughters books and enjoyed everyone, and this one does not disappoint. They always keep you mind engaged and involved in the story from start to finish. It was good to find out more about Jeffrey Tolliver and his relationship with Sara from his point of view and now you can move forward with just Sara and Will. Cannot wait for the next book

Another phenomenal read by the brilliant Karin Slaughter. This new one will smash the charts. It's absolutely brilliant. I was so happy to read more about the relationship between Sara and Will, they make a wonderful couple and I can't wait to read what happens next. Karin always writes about characters you really care about and the plot to this new book was astounding. I certainly wasn't expecting the killer to be who it turned out to be, it literally shocked me at the end. Huge congratulations to Karin Slaughter for another bestseller.

Really enjoyed this. I have since seen that there are other books with these characters in by the author. Normally I find I'm missing part of people's back story when this is the case of a series of books but not this one. I would have said it was a standalone book. Now I want to read them all!

Great plot and brilliantly played out

I am a die-hard Karin Slaughter fan, so this review may be slightly bias.
Another great continuation in what is the Will and Sara saga - which to be honest I am slightly over (sorry KS, I still love you) but book after book we listen to Will and Sara's ridiculous troubles over simple miscommunication.

But as far as the story and murder goes it was top-notch, alternating timelines with appearances from the long-gone Geoffrey, as they connect a string of horrific murders past and present. Once again, in standard Slaughter fashion it was very brutal, so trigger warnings for sexual assault and vivid descriptions.

Violent crime in Georgia...

The only other book I had read of Karin Slaughter's was 'The Good Daughter', so on starting 'The Silent Wife' I had a skewed view that every title was going to be an assessment of another family member!
I was fortunate enough to hear Karin speak alongside Lee Child at a writers' event a few years ago and when asked if she used her family as inspiration for her protagonists, she was very diplomatic (and sensible), denying they were directly depicted, simply stating that every author uses parts of everyone they meet or know as potential material for a story.

Not knowing anything about the Grant County or Will Trent series of books, save the questions that members of the audience asked at the writers' event, I was apprehensive that diving into them at number 10 on Will Trent's list would be detrimental to the enjoyment of the book. It wasn't in the least. In fact, it added to the mental dexterity needed to keep up with the two timelines, beautifully judged in pacing and length, which in turn, added to the tension.

Slaughter is very keen to shine a light on the horrendous crimes perpetrated against women, in particular, but keeping them as real people and not 'just victims'. Crimes have consequences in the memories of those involved that last until their deaths and she is expert at reminding us of this - people are never the same after being the victim of a violent crime.

Which is why it is mystifying that a character in this book who is on edge and suffering a high level of anxiety is picked out by some readers because of her brief obsession with female sanitary items. It was a lovely touch of humour and levity in a dark novel and didn't strike me as 'too much' or out of place. There ARE a bewildering array of products out there and in a moment of desperate need combined with mental anguish, it struck me as all too true. And funny. Sometimes, I think moments of humour in the darkest of plots are severely underrated.

Keep being funny, Karin. And astute and observant and oh so clever.

This was my first dip into the world of Karin Slaughter books, and I was hooked!

There is such depth to the characters and we really get to know them and feel what they’re feeling... the emotions, the tension, it’s all there! The crimes are gruesome but the gory details are necessary to get a real feel for the evil of the killer, and the processes with the coroners and police teams are explained in detail, which I love.

Even though this is part of a series, I felt that there was enough back story included that I could understand the book with ease, without feeling that it would be repetitive for a regular reader.

I have subsequently purchased the entire Grant County and Will Trent series and will be working my way through them... and I just can’t wait to immerse myself in the great writing and fantastic characters!

Thank you to Netgalley, Karin Slaughter and Harper Collins for my arc of The Silent Wife in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis: In Georgia Atlanta present day, Will Trent & Sara Linton are investigating the brutal attack of a young woman left for dead. The trail goes cold until a chance visit by Will to the state pen finds a prisoner who recognises the MO. The attack seems identical to the one he was accused of 8 years ago and it seems the real killer is still on the loose. Past and present collide and everything is at stake.

I've followed this series since I was 16 and I am now 30, I've loved every book and this one was no different. They can be graphic in places but if you can get past that or it doesn't bother you then the storylines are fantastic. I love Will & Sara and the story keeps you guessing throughout, this one was just the same I started to have some tingles about the identity of the killer towards the end but wasn't dead certain until I was! Another fantastic book by the talented Karin Slaughter.

It’s been nineteen years since Karin Slaughter released her first book in the Grant County series. Now, in the connected Will Trent series, she has written the best book since 2012’s “Criminal”.

Past and present collide when GBI investigator Will Trent and his partner, Faith Mitchell, go from looking at a deadly prison riot to looking into the brutal attack of a woman. When Will’s girlfriend, medical examiner Sara Linton, gets the chance to perform a second autopsy on a new victim, it becomes clear that this latest string of attacks may be connected to the ones that happened earlier...in Grant County...when Sara’s then ex-husband, Jeffrey Tolliver, was chief of police. There may be a serial rapist and murderer on the loose. To make matters more complicated, it is called into question whether or not Jeffrey and rookie cop Lena Adams were corrupt in their handling of the Grant County case.

I cannot explain how much I was anticipating this book, and I’m happy to report that it did NOT disappoint! Not only do we get to read more about the characters we love in the present day (Will, Sara, Sara’s family, Faith, and Amanda), we also get Jeffrey! He is very much alive in the past timeline...a particular period that we never saw Jeffrey and Sara in. Oh, and we get Lena in past and present. I can’t stand her at all, and I hope karma knocks on her door one of these days.

This book (and both series) is dark, and not for the faint of heart. It’s graphic in its descriptions of violence (I will never look at a hammer the same way again), medical procedures, and harm to women. It’s also a dialogue-driven, emotional journey of characters we feel like we really know. The underlying tone is romance. The love that Sara and Will have for each other is like no other I have read. Sara’s path from Jeffrey to Will is heartbreaking and wonderful all at the same time. As she so eloquently puts it:

“With Jeffrey, Sara had known that there were dozens, possibly hundreds of other women who could love him just as intensely as she did. With Will, Sara was keenly aware that she was the only woman on earth who could love him the way that he deserved to be loved.”

If you’re new to the world of Karin Slaughter, I would highly suggest starting at the very beginning of the Grant County series (Blindsighted) and working your way through. It will make the emotional punch all the more satisfying. I had tears at the end of this one. I’ll leave it to the reader to determine if those were tears of joy or sorrow.
