#10 in the Will Trent Series, it can be read as a stand-alone (but you’ll be missing out on a fantastic series).

Will is called to investigate the murder of a prison inmate after a prison riot….Sara is there to examine the body. Daryl Nesbit, convicted of owning child pornography (and attacking a custody officer) says he has information to trade, he says he was framed by corrupt cops, one of whom was Sara’s murdered husband, Jeffrey.

He also claims he wasn’t responsible for the rape, mutilation and murder of women…..as there have been new murders since his incarceration it couldn’t be him…..is it a copycat?

Told in two timelines, it tells Jeffrey’s story up to Daryl’s arrest, how Lena may not have been the most honest of cops and Jeffrey’s investigation and relationship with Sara. It also tells of Will’s investigation into the new murders and the old case. It is an in depth investigation with so much happening, there’s Will and Sara’s, now troubled, relationship, Faith and her family, and the details of the brutal rapes, mutilations and murder of the women.

I loved The Silent Wife, with its mix of police procedural and the hunt for a serial killer, it tells of violence towards women in many forms, but it’s also a love story. I loved every gripping, chilling minute and it’s my favourite of the series so far….

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an eARC of the book. This is my honest, unbiased review.

Another excellent novel from one of my favourite authors. You don't have to have read the previous nineteen books in the series but it would enhance your pleasure I'm sure, especially in understanding the complex love story of our leading characters. This one has its roots set in the past so in some ways is a prequel but at the same time is very much the latest episode in our hero/heroines complicated relationship. I loved it, I'm just disappointed that I will have to wait a year for the next one.

This story was really gripping, from the beginning i was hooked and i was kept intrigued until the end. I love a thriller that keeps me surprised and wanting to know more, that has a tense atmosphere that i feel submerged into, and this had all of that for me.

Another excellent offering from the very best at these kinds of thrillers. I am a huge Will Trent fan and I especially enjoy the slow burn of his relationship with Dr Sara Linton. Slaughter is quite simply The Best at deftly weaving past events with current ones. In this offering Trent and his partner investigate a murder identical to one committed over a decade ago. A man is in prison for the original attack and he was put there by Dr Linton's late ex cop husband. But did he put away the wrong man? This is so so good. Looking forward to the next one.

Finally another book in the Will Trent series - i have always loved this series of books but for some reason i just 'didnt find this as gripping and fast paced as the previous in the series. I normally read these books in a couple of days but on this occasion i found myself skimming it in places. However the characters are as fab as ever and i liked the fact the story focused on Will and Sara's relationship a little bit more - though was willing them to sort themselves out:!! The story is focused on a murder that is similiar to a previous murder years beforehand - they are sure they have convicted the correct person of these crimes but could they be wrong - or is there a copycat amongst them. Will needs to figure that out - and quickly!!!!

Another fantastically gripping thriller from one of the best crime writers around. It is full of twists and turns and stayed with me for days after finishing it.

A fast paced storyline, split across a ten year period. Lots of twists and turns which kept me guessing to the end. Really enjoyed this book.

Wow, late nights reading to find out the conclusion
I hadn't read any Karin Slaughter books for a very long time so was interested to preview this book thanks to #NetGalley. The story line and detail is quite shocking and graphic but totally appropriate to the theme and should be expected. It seemed to be quite a long book but in a good way that I just had to read late at night to understand who was the murderer and why. Lots of twists and turns as well as human relationships and emotion. Well recommended read

This was my first Karin Slaughter book. Normally while reading a book in a series, it takes a while to get to grips with the character, setting, pace. However, I found it extremely easy to slip into this series and I became wholly invested in the dynamic between Sara and Will.

Slaughter captures the brutality of human nature beautifully, even though it is harrowing and definitely dark. The pacing was refreshing for a thriller/crime novel, and I couldn't put it down once I started. As a new reader, i will admit that the nuances and easter eggs bypassed me completely. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this thoroughly and look forward to reading more in the future.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately due to this book being 24th in the series (my fault I know) I don’t feel I can give this a review until I have read the other books in the series.

However Karin Slaughter is a fantastic author who’s books I have previously enjoyed she is w hugely talented writer so I have no doubt that I will thoroughly enjoy this book and will be recommending it to family and friends.

This was my first Karin Slaughter book and perhaps not the best to start with because there was a lot of reference to previous books. Even with that, I enjoyed this story which wasn’t the typical thriller I had anticipated.

The writing was extremely dark and violent, incredibly detailed and, one supposes, accurate in terms of the police procedural aspects.

I think I’d have given this a higher rating if I hadn’t come into the series so late, but I am very much looking forward to going back to the beginning and starting at the first book so ‘The Silent Wife’ has made a Karin Slaughter fan of me.

I appreciate that I am in the minority but this book wasn't for me. I have read a previous book by this author, but not one of this series, which I quite enjoyed, but I struggled to get into this one and gave up on it. I also found words/phrases not commonly used in UK and with no explanation of what they meant.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this book in exchange for a review.

This is my first read by this author and I will definitely read more by her.

This book is the 10th book in a series and as a new reader it can be read on it’s own. I liked the main characters Will and Sara, I thought they were very believable, likeable and had good background histories and the author captured their thoughts, feelings and emotions well. I loved the authors writing style here. The story engaged me mostly from beginning to end and it moved from past to present times effortlessly, although at times I thought it was a bit too long and it lost my attention slightly. Most loose threads were tied up towards the end - I was shocked to find out who the killer was, and would have liked to know who murdered Sara’s late husband. Overall a good, well written read 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

4.5*
Will, Faith, Sarah and colleagues are sent to a prison to investigate a murder which happened whilst there was a riot. When interviewing various inmates they are told by one of them, Daryl Nesbitt, that he has been wrongly incarcerated and can prove his innocence.

Nesbitt was not convicted for the rape and/or murder of three women over a decade ago but for child pornography. However, he maintains that was as a result of an illegal search and police corruption. He alleges that there have been more recent killings.

This all happened over a decade ago in Grant County and Jeffrey Tolliver was the sheriff at the time. Nesbitt offers Will and Faith information on the prison murder and illegal phones in exchange for the GBI investigating these new cases. While they all believe Nesbitt has another agenda Amanda, Will and Faith’s boss, tasks them to look into these allegations.

This book moves between the current day Atlanta investigation and the earlier investigation in Grant County. Sarah, who had been married to Jeffery Tolliver (twice – you need to read the excellent Grant County Series) but wasn’t at the time of this case, was a part of that investigation initially helping and then practically taking over from the coroner, whose father had recently died.

Will and Faith follow up information whilst Sarah is tasked with retrieving records from the Grant County coroner and tracking down a women called Tammi who it was believed had survived an earlier attack by the perpetrator but would not speak ‘on the record’. This is quite a difficult process for Sarah given her relationship with Jeffery (please note: there are spoilers regarding the Grant County series in this book so if you intend reading them do be aware) and the earlier case. They are looking for information on these supposed new cases and whether they could be linked to those from Grant County – are these cases connected? Was Nesbitt wrongly accused? Was his subsequent arrest on the child porn by way of an illegal search? Or had he committed the murders as had been thought (insufficient evidence did not allow for an arrest)? The father of one survivor is convinced of Nesbitt’s innocence.

We go back and forth between the past and current events in clearly headed chapters.

Karin Slaughter has with this book not only written her usual excellent standard of hard hitting storyline and very difficult subject matter – rape and murder in this instance – for those who are reading her books she has brought her two major series in this cleverly constructed book to a point where we, readers and characters alike, can properly move forward. She has done this without loosing any of the investigative narrative of this book’s storyline and, indeed, gives us further insight into its characters and their history.

This is a terrific book with wonderful characters which is well written and brilliantly plotted. Karin Slaughter has a way of writing that builds and keeps tension even when more mundane tasks are happening because you always feel that something not so good maybe just around the corner.

Some of the scenes are difficult to read but Karin Slaughter writes in her authors note at the end of the book it’s often necessary and, indeed, important to have them. (Oh, by the way, please don’t read her comments before you finish the book there are spoilers – it’s at the end for a reason!).

The Silent Wife is a very good book and one which I certainly recommend.

Book: With thanks to Harper Collins for inviting me to read and providing an eCopy of The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own, I have not received payment for this review.

The Grant County and Will Trent series are probably one of my favourites. The Grant County series is the one that got me hooked on crime thrillers. I did not realise that we were on book 10 of the Will Trent series already. Time flies when you are reading gruesome murders.

Something to bear in mind is the crimes in this book include rape and there are some graphic scenes (maybe a bit too graphic). Apart from that, it was a great read. It was really interesting seeing another side to Sara and Jefferey's relationship. There’s also the frustration of Sara and Wills inability to communicate, the fact that Lena is still managing to mess with investigations and Faith's struggles with the brutality of the attacks.

I did guess who the bad guy was but I still enjoyed the investigation. I loved the past and present chapters to see how the two investigations differed. The long chapters though made it harder to dip in and out of the book and its definitely one that you have to settle in for a long read.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
