I love fairytale retellings and finding out what happened to Cinderella in her Happily Ever After was a must.

Unfortunately, I couldn't connect with the book or the characters at all. The author also uses "fire-iron" a lot! To begin with, this was fine but then everything started being described as that and it got very very repetitive.

The story was well written and easy to read, just not for me. If you love fairy tale retellings you could give this a go, you might like it more than me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Loved the premise of this book. The Cinderella story has been done before, but I like this take on it very much. It feels like Stephanie Alexander sat down and thought about a world where a girl could marry a prince after a single night at a ball. What kind of place would it be? Not a place where women were expected to be educated and to have rights of their own. A place where marriage would be the main aim for most women. Throw in a feminist Cinderella, a scholarly fairy godmother, a good dose of intrigue, a believable evil stepmother, and UNICORNS!!!!! - sorry - and you have a really good, gripping romp of a novel. Great for a rainy afternoon, or a winter evening. A pragmatic heroine who you can cheer on. Fabulous stuff.

Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read this one.

Not sure how to feel about The Cracked Slipper it feels like a retelling of Cinderella and ends up being more twisted than anyone will expect. The pacing needs more editing as it has moments of stopping and starting or at times feeling the character was written and place into the story with lack of connection. There are also several spelling errors that are a little hard to over look taking reader out of the story the author worked so hard to bring to life.
Not sure why the author used more modern terms in her more period book once again taking reader out the story not sure if they want to go back to reading it.
With proper editing and a few fixes here and there the story could turn out to be a much better read.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of the books.

A what happens after the 'happily ever after' story which I was looking forward to as I liked the concept. Unfortunately I really struggled to get into this book, and for quite unusual reasons too - all the places were named (First Maliana Covey, Afar Creek Abbey) that it ended up being distracting and not enhancing the story and at times so did the descriptions. I did like the imagination and some of the features - Chou the parrot etc but I wasn't gripped enough to carry on reading into another book. Sorry!

This isn't your typical cinderella story, in The Cracked Slipper we start our with our cinderella whose name is Eleanor Brice. She has already gone to the ball, met the prince, became engaged, and moved into the palace.
Eleanor starts to have regrets the night before the wedding when she finds her fiance coming home drunk after have been to a couple brothels. Boasting loudly about what he was doing. of course the next morning he is super apologetic, and at this point she know its too late. if she backs out she will have nowhere to go. i imagine this is what would happen in real life if you became engaged to a dude you just met for one night for a couple hours.. He might not be all you hope for in the long run.
I enjoyed the magic, and the kind of mystery that ends up taking place more towards the end of the book. I didn't realize when I started this, that it was a part of a series. and i gotta say for the whole book i was hoping the prince would mysteriously die or something so she could be with Dorian the guy she ends up falling in love with..

A twist on the classic story of Cinderella. What happens when the girl of the story marries her prince? Real life. Not all is as beautiful as the dream of becoming a princess, which a handsome prince at her side. The story features lovely magical creatures like unicorns, dragons, and menacing monsters. I honestly had a hard time getting into the story at first but it picked up about a third of the way in. I enjoyed some of the characters but found a large portion of the story superficial and frankly, somewhat pretentious. I would read the next book however in the hopes that the author will tighten things up a little.

Not for me unfortunately the idea of seeing what happened next was interesting I found this too slow, dull and a little depressing at times, but I don’t think that was what the author intended. Just couldn’t connect with this story or the main character.

This is not the classis cinderella story we all know, since it is about what happens after the ball. Being married to the prince is not what our heroine dreamed of. I thought it was rather depressing. What I disliked is that their was a love triangle, which seems to continue in the next book... I'm not going to read the next book.

What happens when Cinderella meets her prince, they fall in love , get married, and live in the palace??? Have you ever wondered? I have...and The Cracked Slipper is the story of what happens.....after...

Cinderella, aka Eleanor Brice, and her cracked slipper seem miserable... the whole romance of the ball fades fast as she tries to fit in with the royals in the palace. The differences in lifestyles are only part of the reason why she just isn't thrilled with her dream come true life in the palace. Prince Charming is often not charming, and doesn't seem to be her soul mate at all. Add in magical wizards, witches, taking animals, unicorns, and dragons and the whole book comes to life quite rapidly! I love the imagination and the candor that author Stephanie Alexander creates in The Cracked Slipper. The slipper in many ways offers foreshadowing and symbolism for the fractured relationships and life that Eleanor will have as the Princess.

The evil step mother has tons of issues as do her two daughters and the new Prince is often, at times, a spoiled child. At other times the Prince is surprisingly human too, but although I can't say I hate him... I don't really care for him much especially for Eleanor. The bonus love interest for Eleanor really captures my attention and makes me care so much about what happens to each of them.

This book is the first book in The Cracked Slipper series, so of course it left with things unfinished and unresolved. Now we wait until book two is available to see what will happen next.

Thank you to NetGalley, author Stephanie Alexander, and BooksGoSocial for this digital advanced reader copy for me to enjoy and review. As always, my honest opinions are my own.

This story about what happens next after the EHA is one that unfortunately didn't work for me. I found it over the top weird, conducing and well did I mention weird. I think it just needed better editing or something.
