This story featured Rex and Piper. Piper had had an abused childhood and was shunned by most of her classmates in highschool. She catches the attention of Rex - who has had a privileged childhood but not a happy one. He is the son of a singing star and mostly left on his own. Their relationship was sweet but not without issues. He loved her, but she was trying to protect him. I almost like her speech to her classmates at graduation the best. It hopefully will wake up the rest of the students

Read in one day because the story intrigued me.
Amazing first chapter that really hooks you.
Lovely beautiful timeless romance.
Bit of drama and suspense.
Overall really lovely and good.

Problems: there’s a massive plot hole. Logan isn’t going to prom because of a promise he made about some girl and it’s a sad situation....that situation is never explained or the promise.
Quite a few typo and spelling errors scattered throughout.

I’m sorry I don’t like books that have to deal with rock stars or children of rockstars they just bother me. They are entitled. I just can’t enjoy these books anymore after reading so many long books about the same story

Thank you for the DRC :).

This book is about two broken people finding love and peace. The whole book was addictive and I couldn't stop reading. I just finished it in one go.
The book handles some heavy topics in a good way. It's mature and doesn't look away. I really loved it until the ending. It felt so rushed and forced. It felt childest and really threw me off the story. It went from a solid 4,5 stars back to 3.
Still highly enjoyable, but I wouldn't reread it.

I thought this book was good, but had a hard time believing that Rex was only supposed to be 17 in the beginning of the book with how grownup he acted and the fact that he lived on his own already.

I received this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Beautifully Broken is a well-written, dark romance about two high-school seniors, Piper and Rex. Piper has had an incredibly difficult life between her drug-addicted, prostitute mother and her on-again/off-again time in foster care. What confuses me from the beginning, however, is her "slutty girl" reputation. People assume she's a slut because of her mother, however, rather than ignore and avoid those rumors, she fuels them by pretending to trade sexual favors for money. Hello? Self-sabotage much? Rex has had a very privileged life financially but without any love and support from his parents. As the child of a country music star, Rex has been raised by his nanny, Gretchen, until recently when his parents bought the most recent home that they moved him to - to live in alone. So although he doesn't really like anyone at school, he throws these huge parties just so people will be around. It felt a little like Gatsby to me, especially once he zeroed in on Piper and kept hoping she would show up. And why would she if everyone hates her and vice versa?

So some things were confusing to me, but overall, I enjoyed this romance and was rooting for each of them to get their HEA. Rex is absolutely swoon-worthy, so anyone looking for their next YA book love, he is it. It was more challenging for me to like and connect with Piper because of her strange outlook on dealing with the school bullies, but my heart couldn't help but beat a little faster as she and Rex started to really connect with one another. Bailey B.'s debut novel is sweet and romantic, but just a little too unrealistic at times. I think a younger person will certainly find this to be a five-star read.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Emerald book reviews

This book was a tough one. There were some truly great parts to the story. It was heart felt, beautiful, difficult to read, emotional and heartbreaking. I felt Piper's despair and the chaos of her feelings. How she felt inferior and unloved, less than everyone around her. But at times it seemed to be one perpetual monologue about how unworthy she was and it became a little stale. I understand her character was becoming numb to all the negativity in her life, the turmoil and uncertainty but it often didn't translate as such to the storyline.

Piper was a very complicated Heroine. She was intelligent, sweet and mixed up. The relationship between her and her foster brothers was confusing to me at times. But I also understood their dynamic, especially when you factor in all that happened to Piper in her young life. She's been beaten down and harassed every minute of her High school life. But I wanted her to fight back just a smidge. To showcase that inner strength in different ways. Not be steam rolled over and over. It did become slightly repetitive for me.

The connection she felt with Rex, our hero, was fast and deep but again, to me, it all seemed too rushed. And even through Rex was the hero on campus, handsome, popular and rich, he came across as somewhat juvenile and lacking. I'm not even sure how. I kind of felt like we didn't get to see enough of him. To really dig down deep into his personal heartache and abandonment. There was no denying, however, that together, Rex and Piper were beautiful. He helped her in immeasurable ways and in turn she opened up his heart to the possibility of love and support.

I enjoyed Beautifully Broken but I wouldn't say I loved it. There were too many disconnections for me. It was too fast paced in parts and in others it dragged out too long. I can definitely see potential in this author's writing, so I will certainly keep an eye out for her next book, but this one just didn't hit the mark..

This book had some interesting relationships that I liked reading about- for me, especially Piper and her relationships with Cooper, Logan and Bane. Although, one of the relationships took a cliche and, I believe, unnecessary turn. On the other hand, I really didn't have much interest in the relationship between Piper and Rex. I do think they were cute, but I didn't feel that *something special* from them, and so I didn't find myself actively rooting for them. *However*, I definitely was rooting for Piper and Rex individually- Piper, especially. The things she went through and the way she was living... I can't even imagine.
All in all, this was a pretty quick read, as I wanted to see how the story turned out, but more of an 'okay' read than anything else.

My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This YA novel started off quite strongly - and melodramatically! In the Prologue, young Piper is shot, sacrificing her life for that of the love of her life, Rex Montgomery.

Now flash back to six weeks before this alarming incident: Piper's life was "a hot mess": she was known as the school slut because her mother was a prostitute and drug addict. When she was 8 years old, Piper was put in foster care with the Harris family for a few happy years, but for some reason she is sent back to live with her mother again, who promptly sells her daughter's virginity to her own Pimp, Gerald. Piper has to fight off the Pimp, runs away, and spends her days and nights riding a bus in order to stay warm and off the streets. But she still attends high school. Mrs. Harris welcomes Piper back to her home. Piper is now 18 years old and somehow got a scholarship to attend an exclusive high school for her senior year. There were so many incomprehensible holes like this in this story that should have been caught with more careful editing. For example, at one point, Piper goes back to her bio-mother's apartment to take or steal the child support check that her mother is still getting from social services. We never find out what Piper intended to do with this check and why social services is still paying this subsidy to her mother, even though Piper is now 18 and is no longer in her mother's custody.

Here are a few more examples of the many baffling events in this story: Big spoiler alert:
During one scene, Piper's friend Banes is shot in the side by the Pimp's henchmen, who are out looking for Piper. (Gerard wants revenge and has put an exorbitant price on her head.) Rex and Piper kindly take Banes to the hospital and Rex offers to pay his medical bills. Banes is patched up and released the same day (quick recovery!), and there is no mention of the doctors at the emergency clinic reporting the gunshot wound, as is mandatory for almost every hospital in North America.

And here is something else that perplexed me: when Piper woke up from her medically induced coma (after being shot the morning after prom night), Rex promptly proposed to Piper. She says yes, and they almost immediately adjourn to the chapel and get married. Hello? Marriage License, anyone? Also, there is a three-day waiting period in Florida - unless you've taken the premarital course. But here is the most confusing part for me: on the last page, as Rex and Piper leave their high school graduation ceremony, he assures her he will take care of her from here on in, and he hopes she chooses to live with him. She tearfully asks him: "You want me to move in with you?"
Umm, don't married people usually live together?!

Now, don't get me wrong: I suspect many people will enjoy this action-packed story and feel very sorry for poor down-trodden, misunderstood Piper. The author can certainly write a decent sentence and her paragraphs have good flow. The first 8 or 9 chapters started off strongly, and kept me interested. But after a while, things got a bit off track and the author started falling back on all the old YA tropes. The ending seemed a bit rushed, and, frankly, it just confused me. I don't want to discourage this author from writing more novels. I suspect she will get better with time, and for a debut novel, this was actually a pretty decent effort. I rate it a 3.5 out of 5, rounded down to 3 because of that odd ending.

4.5 Stars

I loved this book! This story was great and I loved the characters. I am hoping she continues writing about Bane,Logan and Cooper because I would love to hear their stories. This book wasn't total insta-love but it was pretty close. Surprisingly it didn't take away from the story like it usually does. I can't wait to read more from this author even it's not part of this world.

3 stars! The story follows two young souls who have been dealt a tough hand, but somehow find solace and comfort in one another. Beautifully Broken has you rooting for the two main characters, Piper and Rex, to just find their way to each other. Baily B. wrote an incredible love story that stood out because it was not little struggles the main characters had to face. Beautifully Broken deals with real issues that are not spoken about often let alone written about in books. This story, while tragic, gives hope and comfort to those in similar circumstances or those going through tough times that your experiences are not you and how you handle them are what defines you. I think readers can really find inspirations and understanding in Piper and every girl can dream of finding their Cooper or Rex.

A great read if you are ready to get emotionally caught up in the romance of Rex and Piper. The story has more emotions and twists placed into it than most, but also follows the emotionally scared girl and rich boyfriend routine of other books I have read. However, the twists Bailey has written into her story and the development of the characters this book was enjoyable to read and held my attention till the end.

I’ve read this ARC for an honest review. Again I’m going step by step. I guess I don’t know how to ease into any topic. :)

1) I love the growth of the plot and the build up in general. The presentation of the characters is also very satisfactory. The tone of the story is also very flawless.

2) I have a problem with Danika and Logan. I’m hoping I didn’t miss if it was there but I’m seriously not sure who Danika is.. while I have some ideas, it’s not a clear issue. But a good hint for any follow up stories.

3) I have a problem with how the hero and heroine seemingly jump from one point to another, again seemingly without any or sufficient internal struggle or evaluation. Like the proposal? How did we get there? Last I saw, they were dating? As lovable as Rex was, I wasn’t sure how he got to the point at the end of the story.

4) As much as I love the character build up for Piper and how she was presented and her troubles were elaborated really successfully, I have a problem with how she comes or doesn’t come to terms with the events towards the end. It felt like the wrap-up was abit too quick for both Piper and Rex.

5) It was very inspiring how the author worked the abuse issues in the background and their impacts on both Piper and Rex. It was a wow point.

6) Finally, it was kind of sudden when we were presented with both Logan’s and Carter’s feeling about Piper. I would have liked to be told more about them both from Piper’s POV before seeing how they value her. Otherwise it sounds abit cliche and unrealistic.

I can recommend it for those who love high school drama, domestic abuse, adult themes. If there happens to be any follow up or spin off’s, I’d like to read, like Logan’s or Carter’s or Jenny’s stories.

I thought that this was a really good story.

I felt that it was very well written, it was a heartfelt read that was a lovely romantic read. I really enjoyed the flow that the author had with the story, it was a lovely book to sit down and read and I read it in one sitting.

The characters were strong and they were made to be together. They were very well developed and the book had me hooked from the outset through to the excellent ending.

It is 5 stars from me for this one, it was a lovely book to read and one I will be very highly recommending too.

I hate posting reviews that are anything but stellar, but I have to be honest. I liked the book okay, but I felt like I was missing things. Like the book was a rough draft of something great! The characters needed more back story, it was like oh let’s drop this hint if things here. We never got a full story of what truly happened. Rex is my favorite character, one because I feel we know him best and two he loves this broken human like she’s whole. The ending was great they have a HEA. But it would’ve been nice to get a glimpse of the future...where is the epilogue.
I received this for an honest review!

I really enjoyed Beautifully Broken, I read it from beginning to end in one sitting. The story follows Piper and Rex, both damaged in their own ways but who end up being each others saviour.
It was well written and I liked all of the characters. I look forward to seeing what else this new author produces in the future.
