I've read all of Jane Corry's books to date and have really enjoyed them. This one I also enjoyed but not quite as much as some of her others. A bit of a slow-burner and I can't place my finger on it but something was just missing from it to really be gripped by it. Good but not great!

Many thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this ARC for which I have given my voluntary and unbiased review.

I Made a Mistake was a slow burner of a book. Told from the perspective of two women, both of whom made one small mistake with big consequences. And somehow both their fates are intertwined.

To be honest, at the very start when I was swapping chapters between Betty and Poppy, I was slightly confused as to how this was all relevant and if I actually cared. But then the story started to get going and my priorities changed.

For me, I much preferred Betty's story and I raced through Poppy's to get to hers. I needed to know how it ended. How she dealt with everything that happened to her. How she changed as a person.  Despite both being caught out by similar issues it was interesting to see how each dealt with the matter differently.

While I did sometimes feel for Poppy. Sometimes I just couldn't understand why she was making such rubbish decisions. While I was trying to not be judgmental sometimes being judgemental was all Poppy had going for her. Sorry Poppy but you did not help yourself.

But it was these very decisions. Selfish, pitiful and occasional unthinking decisions that kept me hooked. Well that and the fact that I needed justice to be served. All actions have consequences and you have to be prepared to accept that. But those consequences may not always be what you anticipated.

In the end I Made a Mistake was a compulsive read, that ended up being more emotional and engaging than I originally thought.

Poppy and Stuart have been married twenty years and have to daughters .Poppy also has a great relationship with her mother-on-law Betty. But their relationship has drifted apart.
Poppy meets her ex boyfriend Mathew and Poppy makes a mistake which could cost her , her family. This is a story told from different view points.

Thank you to NetGalley, Jane Corry and the publisher Penguin Books (UK) for giving the opportunity to read this book.

This is the first book that I have read by Jane Corry and I don't think that it will be my last either.
I didn't know what to expect before I read this, but I am so glad that I have. This is full of twists and turns and it got me wanting to reach for the tissues on occasions - with its 'Oh no what's just happened' and 'I'm nearly crying' moments.

A very good on the edge of your seat, wanting to cry and jump into the story to help read. This has certainly got me thinking about a few things, possibly even reflecting on a few things that have happened to myself.

Well done Jane. I am looking forward to reading your next book that I have in my very big pile. I do hope that it is as just as good as this one is. Yes I would recommend this book.

Poppy Page is a successful businesswoman, who is living a charmed life, until Matthew Gordon reenters it and threatens to turn it upside down

Matthew Gordon is a blast from her past. A man who knows her better than her own husband, but a man who broke her heart.

After a chance meeting with him, Poppy is once again drawn to his charms, although she knows that she shouldn't be, and has everything to lose should she do something reckless.

Betty, Poppy's Mother In Law is looking to redeem herself that happened a long time ago, could interfering in her Daughter In Law's complex problems really be the answer?

Told in alternate chapters from Poppy and Betty's perspectives, I Made A Mistake is a brilliantly twisty novel that will leave you guessing until it's very last pages.

Very enjoyable, with little twists all the way through to keep you hooked in. I did feel like saying things like don't do that etc It also makes you realise the lengths some people will go to for the things they want. All the ends were tied up with some surprises but it just goes to show how one mistake can cause so much mayhem.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance ARC in return for an honest review, and apologies for the delay in posting this.

Poppy Page is a successful businessperson, with a strong but unexciting marriage, two children and a fantastic mother in law. A rash one night stand with an old flame threatens to bring her life crashing down around her ears and a murder trial. Who is on trial for murder, and who is the victim?

For me the drama takes second place between the back story of Poppy's mother in law Betty's s life that is told in letters to Poppy. What comes is a rather enjoyable thriller, taking in two woman's lives over two eras. For me this story almost eclipsed the murder at the beginning of the novel and who was the culprit.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchanged for an honest, independent review.

"In Poppy Page's mind, there are two types of women in this world: those who are faithful to their husbands, and those who are not. Until now, Poppy has never questioned which she was.

"But when handsome, charming Matthew Gordon walks back into her life after almost two decades, that changes. Poppy makes a single mistake - and that mistake will be far more dangerous than she could imagine.

"Someone is going to pay for it with their life . . ."

A slow-burn gritty, engaging drama told by two women, Poppy and her mother-in-law Betty, 'I Made a Mistake' is clever and full of twists. This is one of those books that draws you in slowly, before leaving you on a emotional, tense roller-coaster of a ride.

I love the court room drama: having chapters of the court room interrogation throughout was clever, making me think the case was more or less solved from the beginning, before throwing in a big twist later on in the book that all was not what it seemed.

I've read two of Jane Corry's previous books and loved them so I'm glad I didn't make a mistake by not reading this one. I would highly recommend this great psychological crime drama!

I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Jane Corry's books never disappoint!
I Made a Mistake is a family drama, full of regrets, secrets, and a murder.
Alternating between Poppy's story and her mother-in-law, Betty's earlier story, I was fully drawn in from the very start. Both characters are incredibly written, each with their own fascinating depth.
Slowly unraveling and full of layers, the different timelines effortlessly intertwine, and is highly compelling to read. Delivering a truly believable, realistic, impactful story that kept me completely engaged from beginning to end.
Overall, a thought-provoking read that will definitely have readers questioning the little things they do in their lives, and how much one mistake can affect their whole lives. A must-read!

With thanks to Netgalley and Penguin for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.

The prologue started with a bang at Waterloo Underground Station....

Poppy owned her own talent agency the Poppy Page Extra Agency. She was married to Stuart and had two children, seventeen year old Melissa and fourteen year old Daisy. Poppy was also close to her mother in law Betty who lived with them and did a lot of the housework and drove the kids around.

Poppy still loved Stuart but they had grown apart over the years and she felt unattractive. She had recently become suspicious when Stuart had started working with an old friend called Janine. One night Poppy made a mistake when she met Matthew Gordon an old flame at a Christmas party.

The story was also told from from court transcripts and from letters Betty to Poppy about her marriage to Jock.

The plot was skilfully woven by Jane Corry. I knew a crime had been committed but I wasn't sure who was the accused. I l liked Betty and enjoyed reading about her marriage to Jock. Out of the two stories I think Betty`s was the most compelling. Jock was a nasty piece of work and I was glad when she cleverly tamed him.

I felt sorry for Poppy trying to deal with her aging father with dementia.

I loved the double twists at the end, they took me completely by surprise. Once again Jane Corry has not disappointed me.

I highly recommend this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first Jane Corry novel.

It's not at all the psychological thriller that we are becoming accustomed to but as a family drama it is second to none. Ms Corry paints pictures of interesting characters and I thought her way of giving background by slowly exposing the mother-in-law's letter to Poppy over the course of the book to be most interesting.

The "thriller" twist was totally unexpected, as was the final page!

Very highly recommended and my thanks to NetGalley and Penguin to the ARC.

When I started reading this I was worried that it wasn't the book for me - but within just a few pages I was hooked!
The twists and turns just kept coming, and I felt that Corry really captured the relationship between Betty and her controlling husband perfectly - it was so believable.

I really enjoyed the switching between different viewpoints with each chapter and felt like I got to know all the characters well.

Another great book by Jane Corry, its a compelling read told in alternative chapters by the point of views of Poppy, her mother in law Betty and a murder trial, although we don’t find out who’s died and who’s on trial until towards the end of the book.
Poppy is a wife and mother who makes a mistake one night by sleeping with an ex boyfriend, her life then starts unravelling.
Betty tells her life story in the form of letters to Poppy from the moment she meets her future husband to now.
As the women keep telling their story and the trial continues, tales of domestic violence, affairs, betrayals, but also commitment and love for your family are revealed.
I really enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Books for letting me review this book.

Jane Corry, this book had me on the edge of my seat from the very start.

Poppy runs a look-a-like casting agency which is really taking off. Betty is her mother-in law who holds the family together. But things take a sinister turn when an old flame of Poppy’s reappears after 20 years.

The story is told from the perspective of Poppy and Betty, but what are the past events that shaped both these women’s lives. What are the secrets that are they hiding and who is telling the truth and who is lying?

This is a compelling tale what lies are they telling. Every single character caught my imagination. Every chapter told a complete and compelling story.

This is an extremely intelligent, dark psychological thriller – probably Jane Corry’s best novel so far!

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Omg so wanted to give 5 stars but I think I only ever have given 1 5 star I'm so mean.
But thank you so very much @netgalley and @janecorry for this copy to review I have absoloutley loved reading this book. Can not recommend it enough.

This book is about poppy who lives with her husband Stuart and her 2 daughter's Melissa and daisy and her mother in law betty.

Poppy meets her first love years later at a Christmas party and a while later her life explodes in a huge way.

The story is told from 3 persectives poppy, betty and a murder trial.
You hear all about betty life as a young girl and through her marriage to now and realise things she has been through.
You follow poppy from just before that fatal Christmas party to now.

It is a really good way to tell a story and will completley grip you while seeing life through different decades and how you are expected to behave. To a murder trial.
Wow what a book I was completely hooked.

Many Thanks to Net Galley, Penguin Books (UK) and Jane Corry for a chance to read and review this book.

Jane Corry in my humble opinion can make no mistake. Her latest release I Made A Mistake takes us thru the lives of 2 women Poppy and Betty who teaches us that To Err is Human and it may be only one mistake but we need not pay it with our lives.

The story is comparatively much simpler than some of her other books that I have read which were sufficiently more entangled and convoluted. Poppy Paige is enjoying motherhood to 2 teenage girls, she’s running an agency from her home and is happily married to her husband who is a dentist. Her mother-in-law Betty is also in residence and it is thanks to her immense help that Poppy is able to successfully manage her various responsibilities in addition to the stress of worrying about her father who is showing early signs of dementia.
Love at 17 maybe frivolous for many but Poppy’s experience has been terribly bad but when a chance meeting with her ex, Mathew opens up new avenues, Poppy craving for recognition and love commits one single mistake of her life! But is it such an unforgivable crime or as adults, are we more vulnerable than children in committing mistakes and repenting for them?
Jane Corry has used theme of love and recognition needed and about lost love thru Betty’s and Poppy’s lives. Betty’s past and how it echoes in similar theme to Poppy’s but carries different momentum was extremely touching and the mystery that is woven thru the story and how it adds to the emotional drama was an added plus.
If you are a first-time reader of Jane Corry, I would suggest Blood Sisters which was an extremely fantastic thriller but I Made A Mistake holds on its own even though the adrenaline rush was on the low side in this book. What makes it superb is the nuanced story-telling as we get scenes from the court-room and then the story reveals thru Betty and Poppy. I Made A Mistake is definitely a cleverly crafted slow burning thriller.

I've never read a book by Jane Corry before, but I will be rectifying that soon. I loved her style of writing and can't wait to read more.

I was hooked from beginning to end with this one, and although slower to start it soon picked up the pace.

I loved the three narratives: Poppy Page, her mother in law Betty, and the court scenes. All set up for on fantastic book. Whilst reading mostly from Poppy's point of view we also read about Betty's life that no one knew about.

The book had me thinking a lot, questioning decisions, wondering what I would have said or done had I been put in the same position as Poppy. It shows what consequences can unfold from a bad decision, from one mistake.

I would thoroughly recommend this book. The ending was brilliantly executed and I was still guessing the truth in the final chapters.

This was a good slow burn of a read, which slowly traps you in without you noticing.

Poppy Page is a successful agent supplying extras for TV, film and advertising, having not made it herself as an actress years ago. She is married with 2 teenage daughters and has her mother-in-law living with them who she adores and possibly couldn’t function without. All is good until she bumps into her first love, at a Christmas party. This evokes a desire for something that is missing in her marriage. A week later she finds herself dragging this old flame (Matthew Gordon) back to her hotel bed. Immediately she feels guilty and realises this was a massive mistake, but little does she know, how big a mistake this was. This moment sparks off a chain of events which could ruin her marriage and her business.

The book is written from two narratives, one as Poppy Page, who as a character I did not like at all and found her quite unbelievable, the other is of Betty the lovely mother-in-law. Betty’s story is of her life and seems quite separate to the main story, but it actually connects up well later on in the book. This part of the book is what made it all work for me. There is also a few short chapters which take place in a court room, where you hear that something clearly happens to Matthew and Poppy is being questioned by the prosecution.

At the beginning I wasn’t sure if this was going to work for me, but as you progress the story really develops well and it all comes together really well, with a bit of a twist thrown in to boot. I received my advance copy free of charge in exchange for this honest review. I give this 4/5.

Another brilliant book from Jane Corry. After absolutely loving I Looked Away, I knew I had to get my hands on this one.

Jane is a brilliant writer and never fails to have you gripped from the start. This story is told primarily from two perspectives, first from Poppy an ex actress who now runs her own agency providing extras for films and tv shows. Poppy is married to Stuart and has two daughters. Through her story we hear how she unexpectedly bumps into an old boyfriend, Matthew, at a work event and how this ultimately this leads to her making a big mistake.

The second perspective is from Poppy’s mother in law Betty, who lives with Poppy and Stuart. Her perspective is told in the form of letters to Poppy and details her life from teenage years and we learn of a huge regret from her past. The chapters alternate between the two and occasionally we are given chapters with a narrative from a court room at a murder trial. We are told very early on in the book who was murdered but I won’t say here.

As always, Jane manages to keep you on your toes, building suspense throughout that you can’t help but race through it, but also constantly keeps you guessing. Every time I thought I had it figured out, she would prove me wrong.

Jane brings two elements to this book that are my personal favourite. A multiple character narrative and two timelines (I loved Betty’s chapters, her story alone was interesting). If you’re after a thriller, then I would definitely recommend this book (and I Looked Away as well).

Thank you to Penguin for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review
