***I received a chapter sampler of this book from NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review***

I've only read a chapter of this, but now I physically need to read more! It was entertaining and funny, engaging and somewhat addictive. Within just a chapter, I got a distinct sense of the main characters, and I want to know more about all of them!

Caro, tired of being overshadowed by her two best friends, and wanting attention in her own right, finds pills online that claim they will make her hopelessly attractive. It sounds too good to be true, and it probably is- however, she takes them, and watches as men (literally) fall over their feet to get to her.

It's worth noting that, from what I read at least, this is somewhat ridiculous and over-dramatic: see also, Bone-pocalypse. However I think it worked, because it didn't feel at all like it was taking itself too seriously. Instead, the over-dramatic elements added to the fun feeling of the book.

The focus on the boners at the football game did seem a little sudden to me, but that might not be the case when reading the whole of the book. My other critique would be that Caro was weirdly worried about how her dad's would react to her, which felt slightly icky, both because they're her parents, and because it makes me wonder how the book will deal with sexuality and mono attraction in general. Having said that, I think in Caro's position I would also have these weird fleeting concerns, and I can't judge how the book handles things without having read more of it.

I will definitely be seeking out a complete copy of this!

This is a chapter sampler but I can't wait to read this book! It sounds like my kind of story and I can't wait to read the love antics between these characters!

After reading this sampler I can't wait to read the rest of the book - what more can you ask for from a sample?!

The Love Hypothesis is a classic coming of age romcom seen from a slightly different perspective than most other teen novels. Unlike more traditional protagonists, Caro uses her knowledge of science and applies it to the situations she encounters in an attempt to understand the people around her who she struggles to connect with. The book seems highly entertaining, which one would expect from a story that starts with an event known as the “bonepocalypse.” In the end, it feels like a uplifting, lighthearted read about friends and peers in high school, and how those relationships evolve, all centered around a plot that can only be described as absurd, in the best way possible.

The formatting of this book was completely messed up on my kindle - However, this was still really fun to read! I love Steven's work, she has a really modern and realistic voice for young people, it never feels 'fake', or an older writer putting on a voice.

I wasn't sure about this. It was very fast-paced, in that it didn't stay with one thought or plot moment for very long before dashing to the next. It felt more like a compressed version of the main book, as opposed to a chapter sampler. Not for me, unfortunately.

Absolutely ADORED this book. Caro is intelligent and funny - a combination not always shown in YA. I loved the premise of the book and this journey of self discovery. The ending made me feel all squishy inside!

I really liked The Love Hypothesis! At the start, I was just really confused about what was happening but once I read more I started to really connect to the characters. We follow Caro Kerber-Murphy, a 17-year-old girl living in South Carolina obsessed with science. She's super smart and is really into physics. But one thing she can't seem to figure out is the love hypothesis. Caro has some self-esteem problems and thinks she's not really attractive and just a very average looking person. She doesn't have the 'wow-factor' as her friends do in her opinion. She's also in love with Haruki, one of the popular guys. At one point she is quite desperate for his attention so she discovers this scientific breakthrough to make her more attractive. This has some interesting consequences.

I could relate a lot to the main character which made this book even better. But I didn't like everything she did and how she handled some stuff. But I guess that's just teenager behaviour which we all did when we were that age. I'm also a bit conflicted that the book is pitched as an LGBTQ+ love story even though this was only a really small part of the book. But oh well, we got some f/f romance and that's everything let's be honest. I also really liked the character development of Caro and how she became more comfortable in her own skin. That was beautiful to read.

I really recommend this book if you're looking for a fun, cute and quick read!

Caro Kerber-Murphy experiments with love (literally) in this LGBTQIA YA novel. Caro is a teen who is smart, but plunged into a strange, and confusing situation with her romantic life when she comes across something that makes her irresistible to those around her.

I enjoyed this sampler, and imagine it builds up to a really great story. The characters' quirkiness and relationships are strong in this glimpse of The Love Hypothesis, I'd love to read the whole book! I really want to know how the story unfolds.

Though quite short, this chapter sampler was very funny. The idea behind the start od this novel is very original and I think Laura Steven is executing it to perfection! Cannot wait to get my hands on the full novel !

Obviously I cannot do a full review as it is only a chapter sampler. However, from what I have read already I am very much looking forwards to reading the full book.

Didn't realise when I requested this that it's a sampler and not the actual book. Meh. But reading the sample got me super excited to read the book, because I'm a fan of Laura Steven anyway!

This chapter sampler perfectly sets up the mood for the book and now I am definitely going to buy and read the rest of the book! A very random event at the beginning of the story and I just know the rest of it will be as hilarious. I love the way Steven writes her friendships in her books and this seems to be no exception. I can't wait to see what happens.

So in high school I was pretty nerdy. I didn’t mind and to be fair people didn’t make anything of it. It was at a time when being nerdy wasn’t considered the cook cache that it is nowadays. I worked in the library, I was slightly chubby and I had flaming red hair. I was - what some people would ironically call - a catch. The reason I am giving you this potted history is because if I had been told during my formative years that I could take a pill that would make people be attracted to me then hell yes I would have done it. No questions asked.

This is the same for protagonist Caro Kerber-Murphy. She doesn’t feel like she compares to her two best friends who are interesting and beautiful. She fails to get noticed. If she were a colour it would be beige. Ecru at a push. When she finds an advert for a medically approved drug that can make people fall in love with you she jumps on it. Little does she realise that the consequences can be quite damaging.

I really enjoyed reading about Caro and her friends. I loved the inner turmoil that she goes through and how she really just wants to be noticed. I love how Steven used her back story to justify the way she was feeling without ramming it down the reader’s throats. Steven has shown in The Love Hypothesis and in her previous books how she trusts her readers to be able to understand things without spelling them out. As a reader, I appreciate that.

The Love Hypothesis also makes you remember just what falling in love for the first time feels like. It is a thoroughly enjoyable read and one that you can finish in one sitting.

This chapter sampler was a complete rollercoaster. It was so random and utterly hilarious. I cant wait to read more and find out how this hilarious concept is developed throughout the novel.

This was just the sampler, but I was too excited to wait and went out to buy the book as soon as it was available in shops. I loved Laura Steven's other two YA books, and I definitely wasn't disappointed by the third. The Love Hypothesis was really funny and I loved all the main characters. I cared really deeply about Caro's relationships with her friends, and her dads were a hoot. Plus, it was such a treat to have the lead in a romcom be bisexual and it just be incidental, rather than the entire point of the story.
