This story jumps between the past and the present. This is a thought provoking read. Sensitive topics are handled very well
This book has a brilliant twist and is very cleverly written

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience

A great read and a plot that stays with you after reading. It's also an edge-of-your-seat kind of read with lots of tension and a few good twists. I'm new to the author but I will look to read more feom her in the future based on this.

Blurred Lines
Hannah Begbie

An interesting and enjoyable read in the he/said she/said genre of psychological thriller. Sometimes a little unbelievable for my taste but all in all a well written and thought provoking novel of our times. Excellent title!

Thanks as always to NetGalley and to the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read & review this book.

The book's title is actually very applicable to the book's premise. Where do you draw the line between loyalty to your friends and colleagues, and responsibility towards society. It was an intriguing read to see which way Becky would go. Not an easy choice at the end of the day.

Another twisty and compelling story. I loved the characterisation and it kept me guessing. Recommend.

This book really makes you think and offers a lot more than you may expect The characters have real depth to them and the plot is handled sensitively. Despite the heavy subject, it’s a very easy read that draws you in and keeps you guessing the truth.

‘Blurred Lines’ by Hannah Begbie is certainly a tale for our times. Rather than focusing on the perpetrator of a rape or his victim, the author allows us into the mind of an observer who, nearly two decades earlier, was also abused.
Becky is an up-and-coming film producer, keen to launch her film project, a modern day take on ‘Medea’. She finds her director and star at Cannes and, at last, begins to believe in herself. However, at the same time, she has to grapple with the fact that she may have witnessed her boss and influential friend, Matthew, raping an actress. When the latter goes to the police, what is Becky to do? To whom will she be loyal? Where does the truth lie? How does her past influence her judgement?
This is a psychologically convincing portrayal of a vulnerable woman desperate to persuade herself that she is making the right decisions. Begbie is particularly good at showing her readers that what we may think of as morally obvious paths can appear dangerous and complicated, depending on one’s perspective. The depiction of both the men and the women in this novel is entirely believable and the bravely written last pages only make story all the more convincing.
My thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for a copy of this novel in exchange for a fair review.

Really interesting retelling of the he said/she said story. Becky works for a glamourous producer and sees her boss having sex with someone who is not his wife, then this woman accuses the boss of rape. Becky has to decide whether to say what she saw and if she believes the woman. Great exploration of internalised misogyny and rape culture and why we should believe women.

Thank you Netgalley & publisher for this advanced copy of this book.

Unfortunately I was hoping for an audio version as I am visually impaired and the version of this pdf means I am struggling to increase font to read

Therefore sadly I am unable to provide a review in this instance. So frustrated!

I look forward to an audio version as i was very excited as it looks great!

Sorry and thank you once again for the opportunity.

Only four stars for me for this one. Why?
The world the main character lives in is a bit fanciful
Film producers, and the world they inhabit, has no point of reference for me. I don’t know if what I’m reading is realistic or not.
The story is more moralistically based than anything else so different readers will decide who to empathise, and sympathise with, and who to hate
I’m sure a lot of people will enjoy this more than I did.

Thank you so much for allowing me an advanced copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot line was believable although I didn’t really warm to the characters. I felt lots of different emotions when reading and didn’t expect the ending. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.

Oh gosh. This is a step up from the author’s last book which I also really enjoyed. Isn’t it fab when writers get better? Just makes the wait for her next book even better! I sat up all night reading this and I was gutted when I’d finished it! Give this a go as it’s one that’ll ho on my go re-read list.

One of those books where you really shouldn't judge it by the cover! This book was amazing and not at all what I expected. I had anticipated a straightforward crime and thriller novel, what I got was a gripping story centred around one woman's harrowing experience blended with a #MeToo moment of the film industry.

Well-written and genuinely unputdownable, Hannah Begbie is absolutely one to watch! I found myself often questioning my own decisions and the twist at the end was fantastic (though admittedly, I had guessed it).

Highly recommend, thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

Can we trust what we see? That’s the premise of this book, and seems so of the time. A brilliant read. Love this and the twists just kept on coming.

Due to a broken Kindle then illness this book took me so much longer to read than I wanted it too!
I have read some really heavy books lately, and although this surrounded a controversial subject, it didn't seem massively heavy if that makes sense?
With a lot of twists and turns, the main one which I had questioned very early on in the story, and some that I didn't see happening at all.
A great book that I enjoyed a lot, and would be happy to recommend.

One of those books that has you guiltily wondering how in the same circumstances you might have reacted to the situation Becky found herself in. I did think the narrative seemed to go round and round with no resolution and I wasn’t very surprised by the “ reveal” but overall a good read.

Becky walks in to see her boss in a compromising position with a woman that isn’t his wife. She tries to forget about the whole thing but it appears the incident was not consensual when her boss is accused of rape.

Becky feels conflicted about the incident and her boss Matthew tries to keep her on side by persuading her that it was consensual.

However the incident takes Becky back to a past that she has long tried to forget and she finds she is facing her own demons.

A rather fitting story in current times with many stories like this coming out to the public, with people in high powered positions abusing their positions and assaulting their victims. The author has done a good job off addressing this in a well balanced way.
