(I received an early eARC of this book in return for an honest review)
EVERY SKY A GRAVE...WOW!
This book really took me by surprise with its strong female lead character and outer space setting...
One of the main things I LOVED about ESAG was the power and importance of language in this world. Not only was the writing so stunning, yet easy to read; it flowed, with it’s well paced plot.
The development of our main character Elyth was well done, with her being heroic, but also making mistakes along the way; or choices that the reader may not agree with...this made her character realistic and enjoyable to read.
To keep it brief, Every Sky a Grave is a fun, well plotted science fiction novel filled with intrigue about a range of topics and a strong lead character. Highly recommend!

Every Sky a Grave is an absorbing space adventure set in a beautifully detailed universe. The use of language as a form of magic is fascinating and I was keen to learn as much as I could!

I went into the book not really knowing what to expect, but Elyth was an amazing character to follow and the prose was so vivid that I felt I was having an adventure of my own.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I can't get past the phrase "amazingly beautiful" when trying to think how to describe this book. The story itself, the writing, the characters we get to know - all simply beautiful. "Every Sky a Grave" has left me with a deep longing to return to the imagery and ideas that Jay Posey has crafted so (yes, again - sorry!) beautifully. This is my book of the year so far. Perfect in every regard.

My thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advance copy to review. This review is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion.

I was flattered when I was auto-approved to read an eARC of Every Sky a Grave, a Sci-Fi set in outer space where language is power. Told in third person, it follows Elyth who is tasked with the assassination of a planet for the greater good of the cosmos.

This adventure had a kind of quiet excitement to it. There is a lot of exploration, both internally and in settings that felt both familiar and new: expansive forests, snowy mountains, guarded fortresses and light aircrafts. A blend of human-built machines and wild nature.

Elyth is smart: knowledgeable, curious, adaptable and committed to the order that trained her: in the Deep Language, the life language of all things, and in the assassination of planets. Elyth is a solitary creature, due in part to circumstance, and there’s an interesting mentor-mentee relationship and found comradeships. Refreshingly, there is no romantic love and her found relationships were organic and true to her character.

I adored the descriptive writing; from Elyth’s smoked gray-blue infiltration attire to an entire scene that simply involves pouring and drinking tea. I would happily read an entire book by Jay Posey about two women drinking tea together. There’s a lot of contemplation in this book, as well as earth-moving action and daring escapes.

I consumed Every Sky a Grave in two sittings. It’s a fantastic Sci-Fi adventure woven with the power of words and how, in an ever-changing universe, Elyth must trust her instincts in order to survive.

This was a wonderful Sci-Fi. I was totally immersed in the story from the .beginning to the end. The writing just flowed onwards, I could feel and experience all the action and the conclusion was a climax to be admired.. Great escapist story for lockdown.
