I went into this one blind and not knowing what to expect and I absolutely loved it!! Whilst I thought it would be more thriller-y, I loved the twist on this theme and the almost comedic side to the main character that came out! Some parts were funny, despite the circumstances and I felt it really made you warm to the MC.
Whilst this book does cover a hard topic, it was written well and sensitively. The overall effect of the book is brilliant and definitely an author I will be reading more of in the future!

This book is based around being with people when they died, however something goes wrong. The main character realise the mistake and this book develops as you find out what actually happened. This was a good story with a background story that is interwoven and the book comes to a good conclusion.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK. I don't think I knew what I was getting into when I chose this book. Exiters..what? I had to look it up and it is a real position that people have..... Well, after that eye opener. I was interested in this plot and the book was very entertaining. The chapters flowed well and the ending..was very unexpected.
Sorry for the delayed review.

Thank you for the opportunity to read Exit as I really enjoy Belinda Bauer's books. I am conflicted about this book though. It is a serious topic, and is dealt with well, peppered with humour throughout. There were a few moments where I was taken by surprise by a twist but overall I felt it was very slow moving and lots and lots of detail that I thought was unnecessary. It took me quite a while to read as I didn't rush back to it but once reading it I did enjoy it.

This was a very original storyline, and a really interesting concept.
When I first started the book, I was t sure I wanted to continue as it wasn’t very fast paced and didn’t seem like my usual kind of book.
However I did become hooked and found that I wanted to know what happened to the characters.
A bit of a thriller, with some dark humour thrown in, along with police procedure too.
I actually really enjoyed this and am so pleased I decided to finish the book.

A great, thrilling read, which will keep you entertained throughout. A good one sitting read, get the nibbles ready, close the door, and read!

the book felt flat. there were too many far-fetched events happening around the protagonist. The book was slow to start and I felt there were times I skipped a lot of pages (which I don't generally do)

This book was so engaging and I didn’t want to put it down.
The plot was great and the characters were well developed.
A great mix of crime and humour. The ending was a huge surprise.

I’m not a fan of writing bad book reviews, but this was pretty dull; I don’t think there was a single section that was exciting or intriguing. I really liked the concept of the Exiteers but it was just taken in the wrong direction for me. I also found it very hard to follow along with everything. I’m a big fan of of books with lots of characters but this just jumped around and didn’t flow well.

Having read and loved Snap and Rubbernecker, I knew that I would enjoy Exit, Belinda’s latest standalone crime novel, but what I forgot was how much I enjoy her wonderful writing and unique storylines.

Exit is a clever and original crime thriller about Felix Pink, a 75 year old widow who works as an Exiteer, having nursed his wife through dementia until her death. The Exiteers are a small group of volunteers who witness the death of those terminally ill who have chosen to end their suffering through assisted suicide. The Exiteers do not assist in the act, they just oversee it and stay with the sufferer until they pass.

Felix cares about his work and his “clients” ensuring their passing is peaceful and dignified. He is professional, careful and takes his responsibilities very seriously.

As the Exiteers always work in pairs, Felix is paired with a new recruit, a young woman called Amanda and they travel to the home of an elderly man with terminal cancer. Everything seems to be in order, the disclaimer has been signed, the Will is prepared and all they have to do is watch Charles Cann take his last breath….. however this doesn’t go to plan when Amanda breaks protocol and chaos ensues.

I don’t want to give anything away in this review so you should definitely read it to find out what happens, but I will say that I absolutely LOVED Felix Pink. It was refreshing to have a senior citizen main character and just proves that not all heroes have to be young, fit and healthy! His life experiences, thoughts and observations were fascinating and moving and I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster following Felix.

I fully admit to having leaky eyes towards the end of the book and whilst the premise of the story is dark, the author deals with the subject matter with sensitivity at all times. The wonderful humour also brings an element of much needed light relief and I would not hesitate in recommending this book.

Gripping fast paced read which I whipped through. Would absolutely recommend to fans of the genre, Can't wait to see what she writes next.

Truly could not put this down. Such a brilliant opening chapter and then so many twists and turns. I’d forgotten how much I love Bauer’s books!

I liked the sound of this book when I read the blurb - it sounded like an intriguing story.

The first few pages were interesting - explains the concept of a group of people who wait with people who are essentially ending their own lives.

However, after the first chapter or so, I just found that I lost interest in the story - I found it to be a bit boring, and unfortunately, it just didn’t grip me, as I’d hoped.

I loved this story!

Belinda Bauer has written some great novels, and this one is up there with some of her most entertaining. Definitely recommended.

I assumed going into this book that it would be a crime/thriller but it wasn't. Yes, there was crime but this was more about the people than the crime itself, so I'm not sure what genre I'd put it in. The author pulls you in to caring about the main character, Felix, almost immediately. I enjoyed the twist at the end and would definitely pick up more by this author. An enjoyable, different book that exceeded expectations.

Really not sure about this one.
Part murder mystery part slapstick comedy!
The idea of an assisted death that goes wrong was an interesting plot but it all got a bit convoluted for me. That said I was never going to ditch it and I did love the ending

Having recently read “Snap” and “The Beautiful Dead” and both being five star reads for me, I knew I’d be thoroughly entertained with Belinda Bauer’s latest novel “EXIT”.

- IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE MURDER ...Pensioner Felix Pink is about to find out that it’s never too late, for life to go horribly wrong. When Felix lets himself in to number three Black Lane, he’s there to perform an act of kindness and charity - to keep a dying man company as he takes his final breath but just fifteen minutes later, Felix is on the run from the police after making the biggest mistake of his life.

Seventy five year old Felix is an ‘Exiteer’, someone who sits with a terminally ill person wishing to end their own life and suffering. By staying the right side of the law, an Exiteer cannot assist with the actual process of dying but can give assurance to the person’s family, that they weren’t alone when they passed. However, when Felix and his Exiteer colleague make a life changing mistake, his world is turned upside down in minutes. At seventy five years old, Felix is a bit of an antihero, lacking the traditional qualities of a hero but wanting justice all the same and has a deep moral conscience. Still grieving the loss of his wife Margaret and son Jamie, his only companion is his loveable dog Mabel and oddball neighbour Miss Knot.
Along with some really cracking characters like the farcical PC Calvin Bridge, DCI Kirsty King and their vending machine capers, a fight with garden gnomes and some tree climbing antics, there’s some lovely dark comedic moments that softens the bleakness of the subject of euthanasia. I enjoyed the unique plot immensely, this very talented author has created a fabulous crime thriller that’s weaved with some superb British humour and is a book I shall be keeping to re-read again for definite in the future.

#EXIT - 5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley for this free copy in exchange for an honest review. The complexities of assisted suicide and societal approaches surrounding it seemed an interesting topic to broach in Exit; the notion of the Exiteers showed promise and I enjoyed the initial set-up for the story, however I couldn’t find myself connecting to the characters (despite obvious attempts at grace notes to endear the reader to them) and felt any exploration at complexities was superficial and bland. Maybe just a miss for me as I see plenty of people enjoying this book but I felt no compulsion to finish and no satisfaction when I did!

Exit by Belinda Bauer. A crime thriller but not as we know it! A great read, I loved the characters and enjoyed the unique farcical story. Felix Pink lets himself into the strange house to carry out an act of mercy but nothing went as planned and Felix finds himself on the run from the police.
