I feel like readers that may love unnecessary drama will like this book, but honestly I found the back and forth of these characters annoying. It made the two main characters annoyingly indecisive. Maybe I can give a pass to Maggie, since she’s 27 years old, but Lynn was in her late 30’s and she just played too many games for me to like her. And all I wanted was Maggie to finally call Lynn out on her bullshit! Alas, she always gave her a free pass to string her along for most of the book.

To the reader, although these characters both work at a hospital, this isn’t a medical drama book. It’s definetly focused mainly on “will they or won’t they” get together, so it’s a pretty straight-forward romance.

My biggest gripe was that some of the details in the writing didn’t make sense. I don’t want to give spoilers away, so I’ll just mention one. Maggie makes a comment about “whoever marries Pam will fall into those blue eyes” but she already knows Pam is married to Heather, who she’s met. And then in the next sentence even mentions Heather. So it’s incorrect to say “whoever” and act like it hasn’t happened. There were about 5 of those instances that just confused me, so it took me out of the story at points.

Overall, I think it just needed another pass through editing to connect all the points. And the back and forth between the MC’s just wasn’t to my taste.

Sometimes a story can be romantic fiction but the behaviour of the characters so real and possible that it leaves you unsure about the rating. There are things you wish were different because it is a romance but you just know that the people are following behavioural trajectories that are most typical.

Lynn Monroe’s sister had a baby when she was just sixteen. The sister dumped the child, Carrie, on Lynn and disappeared so Lynn became Carrie’s de facto mom, though there is just twelve years between them. A teenaged Carrie’s bestie, Maggie Randall is smitten by Lynn on first sight. Lynn feels the attraction but is married (albeit to a largely absent and rather narcissistic wife) plus she is intensely aware of the age gap so she keeps Maggie at an arm’s length. Carrie and Maggie leave Baltimore and go to Boston to pursue their education in medicine. After graduating, Maggie is back in Baltimore with an internship in John’s Hopkins, where Lynn works as a nurse and her ex-wife is the head of surgery. Inevitably, Lynn and Maggie run into each other and the pull between them still exists. Maggie believes they are meant to be but Lynn struggles with a variety of doubts.

The chemistry between Lynn and Maggie is fantastic. Both are individually likeable but there are just so many circumstantial roadblocks that it is quite frustrating. First, Maggie thinks Lynn is already involved with someone else, then Lynn thinks there is someone younger interested in Maggie, then there is the age gap, Lynn’s ex trying to put a spanner in the works, Carrie and her issues with a possible relationship between her mom and bestie…and maybe more stuff that we’re missing. Through it all Lynn kind of blows-interested-and-blows-tentative. Maggie remains steadfast in her feelings for Lynn even when she feels that Lynn doesn’t quite care as much about her. (Okay, this one also has our pet peeve – Maggie breaks someone’s heart quite badly. We hate that.) In the end, Maggie is the one who makes their relationship happen.

Through it all, we were firmly rooting for the pair but towards the end we so desperately wished that Lynn had offered more to Maggie in context of Carrie’s hang ups. It would’ve been a perfect romance if Lynn had stood up for her relationship with Maggie instead of choosing to wait out Carrie’s issues.

Despite all that, the writing is totally engrossing. Do we want the couple to be together? Yes. Do we believe that Lynn and Maggie have their HEA? Yes. (It really helps that both the ladies are very likeable.) And that is the most important thing in a romance. So we’d say, go for it.

Maggie fell in love with her best friend's Aunt/Mom - Lynn - in College. For Maggie it felt like love at first site. Problem is that 1. Lynn is like 12 years older than her and 2. She is married. Even though there is an attraction, Lynn refuses to go there with her even though her marriage is on the rocks. Fast forward 4 years. Lynn and the bestie have graduated from Med school and Maggie finds herself in residency back in the same town and hospital with Lynn works.

Okay so what did I like about Perfect Timing. Both Maggie and Lynn are likable characters (though I liked Maggie more). They have chemistry, but Lynn is not willing to go there because she doesn't want to anger her the niece she raised (Maggie's best friend). I also liked that Maggie was mature for her age so it made the age gap thing seem okay. Overall I thought it was a nice and cute love story. I did often find myself wishing it wasn't so angst-y. Lynn had a hard time making up her mind and frankly it was slightly irritating that she was hiding the relationship from her niece. There was a lot of going back and forth and I know that there are a lot of people who like a book heavy in angst...that is just not my thing. Oh, I did like the sex scenes. I thought they were well done and there was enough to keep me happy.

So i will rate this one 3.5 stars

This book had a very nice premise, however the followthrough was a letdown. The anticipation and the buildup was very nicely done, but when it came to the actual relationship of the two main characters all that came through was pettiness. This was a writing full of adolescent fights and ridiculous, non existent problems. I would not recommend this book too anyone over 20years old.

Perfect timing does make a big difference…and it’s certainly the case when Maggie gets a second chance to find happiness with Lynn. When they had first met, they could not pursue any relationship even though there was a connection. But now, a few years later, would there be obstacles that would not allow them to be together?
This was a good story loaded with quite a bit of angst. It was interesting to see how both Lynn and Maggie navigated through their feelings for each other as well as circumstances they faced. This was a good read.

This was a good read.

Dr. Maggie just got a assigned as intern and learned it’s at the same hospital of the woman she never stop thinking about her best friend Aunt Lynn.

Lynn has decided to live on her own terms after getting a divorce that was long overdue. She proud of her niece Carrie that she raise.

Maggie and Carrie are best friends when Carrie introduce Maggie to her aunt there were instant connection to her and vice verse but at that time they couldn’t do anything because Lynn was married and Maggie was a teenager.

Now years later at 26 Maggie finally becoming a doctor and Lynn who 38 is finally at a place where she like but when she bump into Maggie that connection she felt before is still there but she hesitate to go there because not only because the age gap there her niece Carrie and wether she wants to give love another try.

I received a Arc from The publisher Via netgalley for a honest review. So this is a age gap second chance book. When the two Mains meet the one is Young, a teenager really and years go by and blah blah blah.. I am not going to get into giving a play by play of the story because what's the point of you reading it if I give it all away. I have mixed feelings on this book. It is well written and I thought it started off well enough but slowed somewhat till around 80 percent. Things picked up and got interesting for the most part to the finish but wrapped up a little too easy for all the trouble that it took to get there I thought. I can only give this a 3 plus as I really did not feel a connection to the main characters. I was trying to decide why as I was reading through the book but I really did not care much about them and if they even got together. So in short I think many well really like this book but for me its a three and change stars.

Love isn't easy when you have to worry about age differences, career demands and adult children.

Maggie has only ever loved Lynn and medince - Lynn is the icing on the cake for Maggie whi is a pediatric intern

Lynn, an older divorcee, is the adopted mom of Maggie's best frien, Carrie.

Carrie is convinced that Maggie is responsible for her parents divorce and she is not above issuing ultimatums that alter Maggie and Lynn's lives.

The story is well written - illustrating the need for clear communication in any realtionship, a parent's need for a child's approval and happiness and how people are manipulated by others.

There is a lot of angst in the story - at some points, I wanted to shout at the characters to "get over it" as they complicated their lives needlessly. The end wrapped up very quickly and predictably.

I would be interested to read more of the artist's work - I like the writing style.

This book really surprised me, I didn't expect it to suck me as fast as it did and i totally had a hard time putting it down. the story-line was sweet with fantastic dialogue , the characters got stuck in my head and I found myself thinking about them when not reading the book.

I have always loved  a good age gap story-line. This book had an exceptional build up to the romance between Maggie and Lynn. I'm glad we got to see the backstory on them it helped me understand what was going on in their heads when i was yelling at them to  "Just do it already"...LOL

The secondary characters were great. I would love to see a book with Andi she was such a dreamy boi.

I received an advanced copy from the publisher via Netgalley.

Throughout the story, Maggie, a 26 year old intern, and Lynn , a 38 year old nurse had many emotional setbacks regarding their relationship. There were several reasons for this besides the 12 year age gap. Lynn was the aunt who raised Maggie’s best friend, Carrie, who was also an intern at a different hospital. Lynn didn’t want to get involved with another doctor since her ex-wife was also a doctor and placed her work ahead of Lynn; Carrie wanted Lynn to reestablish a relationship with Beth and did not like the idea of her “mom” and Maggie as a couple.

Even though the characters were likable, I felt the level of indecisiveness disrupted their relationship too often. Just when they seem to solidify the relationship, something else happened to disrupt it. Since Beth seemed to be very important to Carrie, I would have liked to see their interactions somewhere in the story. I think this would have added more depth to Carrie’s adverse reaction to Lynn and Maggie’s relationship.

Personally, I found it difficult to get invested in the characters’ lives with all those disruptions. But I know there are many readers who enjoy stories with a lot of angst and will like this one. So I will definitely recommend it to those readers.

ARC given for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book and the story, but I couldn’t connect with the characters.

Maggie is a teenager her best friend Carrie takes her home to her aunt Lynn. Maggie is instantly attracted to Lynn, but aside from her being Carrie’s aunt she is also married. Years later when Maggie and Carrie get matched to a medical internship Maggie returns to Baltimore, where Lynn is now living life on her own terms. Maggie has stayed away from Lynn on purpose and Lynn has done much of the same. But there is this attraction and love that can’t keep them away from each other, no matter the complications. Lynn struggles with her love for Maggie and how this would fit into her life, with her being more like mom than a aunt to Carrie. And Maggie is just young as well.
They have a past and the book goes back to it some times, but I don’t like those parts.

Somehow all of their friends are rooting for them to work it out and pushing them together, no one seems to have any objections or negative/ realist opinions. There is so much left unsaid and the story just develops, the romance is nice, the built up is rather good. But for me there was just something about the characters that didn’t appeal to me. And I know this is just me, but I can’t stand it when there are multiple names that end with y, ie or i, I will mix them all up in my head.

Dr Maggie Randell has been assigned to intern at the same hospital as her best friend's aunt, Lynn Monroe. Maggie fell in love with Lynn the moment she laid eyes on her and Lynn also felt the instant connection.  Lynn just happened to be married at the time and when Maggie's best friend Carrie realised they had a connection she made Maggie promise to never see or contact Lynn again. For four years Maggie had kept that promise until she lays eyes on Lynn again.
When I started reading this book, initially I couldn't put it down, it's well written and I was intrigued with the story and was really interested to see where it was going to go. I loved the flashbacks and would have liked them to continue to the end. The characters were interesting and I loved the passion and drive of Maggie and the insecurities of Lynn as she questions all her decisions which I found very realistic. I think the ending was a little soft with things wrapping up a little bit too conveniently but overall this was a good read.

I RECEIVED AN ARC COPY OF THE BOOK FROM THE PUBLISHER VIA NETGALLEY AND VOLUNTARILY LEAVING MY REVIEW.

MAGGIE IS AN INTERN (DOCTOR) WHO IS JUST STARTING OUT WITH HER CAREER. SHE HAS ALWAYS HAD A THING FOR HER BEST FRIEND'S AUNT.

LYNN IS A NURSE AND HAS BROUGHT UP HER NIECE FOR MOST OF HER LIFE. SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH A PAINFUL DIVORCE AND IS TRYING TO GET HER LIFE BACK ON TRACK.

THIS IS A GOOD READ. I LOVED MAGGIE WHO IS JUST STARTING HER MEDICAL CAREER. LYNN ON THE OTHER HAND TOOK ME A FEW CHAPTERS TO LIKE HER. YEARS AGO, WHEN MAGGIE FIRST MET LYNN SHE HAD A CRUSH ON HER AND HAS NEVER REALLY MOVED ON. LYNN ALSO HAD FEELINGS FOR MAGGIE BUT AS SHE WAS MARRIED AT THE TIME, SHE NEVER TOOK HER ATTRACTION ANY FURTHER. SOME YEARS LATER, THEY MEET AT A BALL GAME AND THE ATTRACTION FOR THEM BOTH IS STILL THERE, ALTHOUGH, LYNN TRIES TO PUT MAGGIE OFF AS SHE ISN'T SURE IF SHE CAN PURSUE A RELATIONSHIP WITH HER.

IT WAS A GOOD STORY LINE AND I REALLY LOVED THE SECONDARY CHARACTERS. THE PACE WAS GOOD.

IF YOU LIKE AGE GAP ROMANCES THEN THIS COULD BE THE BOOK FOR YOU.

Enjoyable second-chance, age-gap romance.

When Maggie's best friend Carrie took her home in college, Maggie instantly fell for Carrie's Auntie Lynn (who is Carrie's legal guardian). But Lynn was married and much older and refused to act on the undeniable spark between herself and Maggie.

Years later, Maggie returns to Baltimore as an medical intern at the same hospital where a now-divorced Lynn works as a nurse. The two have a chance to be reunited, but obstacles still remain... most dire is Carrie, who adamantly refuses to believe that Maggie and Lynn could truly love each other.

I love Dena’s work! Love the stories she comes up with her characters in those stories. This one is gut wrenching sappy love story that made me saw aww and Shit in one sentence. I love the up and downs, the pull and push. I think both characters were created as people with flaws and I like that. I love it took them so long to get back to each other and they had their happy ending.
Sometimes if something is meant to be, it will happen.

Every book Dena Blake writes is better than the last. I fell in absolute love with Lynn and Maggie. The only complaint I have is that I want more. I seriously hope there is a follow up. This book was awesome.

Dena Blake is one talented author! Perfect Timing is about Maggie, a medical resident, and Lynn, an ex- lover. The two find themselves meeting accidentally years later. Age gaps play a big part of the story, however with the help of a great supportive cast, the two begin to rediscover each other. The plot moves along nicely behind the setting at John Hopkins medical university. It’s a beautiful story about starting over, courage, and love!

I love a good story about how and why two people can know each other for years, but somehow their happily ever after cannot coordinate until the right moment . Perfect Timing nails that with Lynn and Maggie’s situation of obstacles such as work, school, and people constantly getting in their way despite their open interest in each other. Both women are honorable and devoted in regards to their responsibilities that you literally feel their heartbreak when they are faced with the reality of hard choices. This book plays heavily into all of humanity’s feels, and not just love and passion. There’s the sting of jealousy and the sadness of rejection, but there is also the lift of hope that keeps you glued to the pages to see what happens next. The intrigue of their story goes deep into their history as we are gloriously allowed back story in flashbacks through both their memories which allows the emotions you feel for them to really set root because of the time and distance of their journey. You gain an appreciation for the intense drama in the fallout of their difficult choices, and ultimately in the intense passion for each other when they are finally allowed to let go and be together. Maggie and her best friend are medical interns who have matched in different cities, cities that the other wanted and they didn’t. For Maggie that means she goes back home to the place where the love of her life, her best friend’s Aunt Lynn turned her away. Maggie has never moved on from Lynn and now working in the same hospital is making life harder every day. As for Lynn, she never forgot how Maggie made her feel but they are in such different places in their lives, and Cassie is still an issue…. Should they even try?

Heavy sighs… This is a really good book with a terrific love story and yummy sexy bits! I loved the flirtation and the build up to the romance, which was a delight. I adored Lynn and wanted her happiness most of all. I could understand how Lynn felt when it came to her indecision with Cassie but I also thought maybe Lynn should have been sterner than she was with both her ex and Cassie, who was a bit of a spoiled, self-centered b*tch… But then again, that would have made the story different and maybe it wouldn’t have worked… I don’t know, I just know other than that I really liked the book and the ending was perfect!
