Ok, but nothing more. If pressed for a read this would be a quick enough one to get through. There is nothing too special about it though. A solo adventure in a beautiful foreign setting (London) had such promise, but I just never connected with main character Lucy (which is always important for me).

Honeymoon Alone by Nicole Macaulay is a contemporary romance. When irrepressibly romantic Lucy Gray is ditched at said wedding by her date in front of her whole family, the promises of a psychic seem better than her pity-riddled reality. The psychic’s advice seems insightful: stop ignoring fate’s signs – fate will lead you to love. But when “fate” leads Lucy to London, she finds herself tangled in a web of lies. In a story about finding independence and taking chances, Lucy learns that leaving everything up to fate can be dangerous – and jeopardize her chances at happily ever after.

Honeymoon Alone is a story that caught my attention right at the begin. Lucy is sweet, reliable, and tired. Everyone expects her to do what they need and while they care about her they never seem to think about what she wants, only what they think is best for her. I could very much relate to her position and emotional state. She takes a chance, takes an impromptu trip, and comedy, romance, and a dash of danger are the result. I like that all of the conflicts and bumbles felt completely natural, and rather like things that would happen to me. I like how the characters were all well developed an d that the story does not frame Lucy as incomplete without romance, but that it would simple not be unwelcome. In much of the book romance takes a back seat to figuring out just what was going on and enjoying Lucy's discovery of London. For those looking for steam, there is none of that here- nothing more than some kisses- but the journey is very much worth the read.

Honeymoon Alone as much a story about Lucy finding herself and figuring out what she wants. I enjoyed the story and am glad I requested it from NetGalley.

This book was the perfect, light-hearted read I didn’t know I needed in my life. I literally read this book in one day (basically one sitting) on my day off work because I was enjoying it so much. It had some similarities with The Unhoneymooners (the book starts at Lucy’s sisters wedding and then she ends up going on her sisters honeymoon) but there was plenty of other stuff going on that made it it’s own story. The writing was great, the cover art is adorable, the characters were perfect (Lucy’s parents kind of reminded me of Mr and Mrs Bennet from P&P!). I would definitely recommend this book if you love Sophie Kinsella or the book The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren.


Lucy has always been the girl to do the normal thing, the predictable thing, the safe thing. So when fate sends her a sign that it’s time to make a change and she takes herself off on her sisters ‘back up honeymoon’ in London, her over-protective family are not only shocked, but worried. After throwing her phone out the window of her London honeymoon flat, it’s time to really take charge of her own life and see London. However that’s not easy when the hotel owners son is on her back every second he can be, trying to figure out where her elusive husband is. Not to mention bumping into the jerk who made her cry back in school. If she can just try and dodge these two guys and focus on herself and London for the rest of her trip, she might actually be able to have the perfect Honeymoon Alone.

3.5 stars. This book was a nice surprise! Requested it from @netgalley with no expectations. And it was a fun book!

Lucy is sweet and kind and the supporting cast is great! Reading about her trip made me want to travel again. And visit London. Sigh. Maybe next year, when things all settle.

While I enjoyed this light-hearted easy read. It was refreshing and you can't help but love the main character. I was pretty disappointed in the ending of the book. The ending was flat, it didn't satisfy what I wanted the wrap up to be. Overall, I give this book 3.5 stars and will definitely check out her future novels.

Nice and easy to read, and although I guessed most of the ending halfway through the book it didn't stop me from enjoying the book at all.

Honeymoon Alone is a book I wouldn’t hesitate to re-read because it made me feel so good. Nicole Macaulay did a fantastic job at making my travel-loving heart flutter a thousand times so that I had to finish reading this book almost immediately. We’re living in uncertain times, we all know that. Every morning I wake up with the feeling of uncertainty that I hate. Reading this book made me want to take risks and it made me believe that change was not such a bad thing. But before I ramble on, let’s talk a bit about what happens in the book.

Lucy Gray is a 26 year old girl with a huge family – a family that not only cares about each other but also has a blog to post updates on. There is nothing remarkable about Lucy – she is a sweet girl who teaches kids, is completely reliable and is never known to be adventurous. If I were to compare Lucy to a movie character, it would definitely be Jane from 27 Dresses. The book opens with Lucy managing everything in her sister’s wedding despite them having hired a wedding planner. I loved this scene because we get to see how mundane her life is.

The next day Lucy gets a call from The Chazier, a honeymoon choice for her sister that she forgot to cancel. Before she can think further, Lucy books her tickets and even sooner than that she lands in London where she is met by a school friend – Cary. He’s drop dead gorgeous and knows London like the back of his hand. Before you know it, Lucy is pretending to be her sister and Cary her husband.

But obviously identity theft is not all that easy, right? Oliver is the concierge at The Chazier and he is onto her. Lucy is like all of us – she is easily excited by tourist spots, loves clicking pictures and knowing the history behind those iconic locations. As days pass, she feels liberated on her first solo trip and it is so refreshing. I remember feeling the same last year on my very first solo trip. Lucy learns to live herself, make friends and be adventurous for a change. By the end of the book, I was feeling a little proud of her myself.

Honeymoon Alone is for everyone who is yearning a vacation this summer but cannot go. It is for everyone who wants an adventure but is too scared to take the risk. It is for most of us who want to travel the world.

If you're after a cute, light-hearted read then this is the one for you. It's one of those heartwarming stories where the heroine is so so likeable. I loved that the emphasis wasn't so focused on the main relationship but more so on her journey to figure out more about herself throughout the novel. A super cute romcom (and not graphic either, which is always a bonus if you're not feeling up to it) that I'd recommend for a lighter read. 4/5!

I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did and I really wasn’t expecting to laugh as much as I did when reading Honeymoon Alone!! This was a funny, lighthearted, feel-good time!! I ended up finishing this book in a day!!

I will say this book started off a bit slow for me and a bit over the top but once Lucy was off to London the book really took off.

I found both the main characters to be a bit immature at the beginning. Lucy reminded me a bit of Gorgie from Fix Her Up. A big dork with a family that constantly treats her like she’s still a child. Some of it is because she’s a bit immature, but we do see her grow throughout the book. It really felt like we got to see Lucy grow into her own person in a really natural way without her character growth seeming forced.

I also have to admit that at first I was not feeling Oliver. It took my a while to warm up to him. He seemed like a bit of a brat at first. For a while I was rooting for Carey to swoop in (who by the way was a fantastic secondary character)!! But sure enough Oliver won we over with his boyish charm and stalkerish ways!!

Really enjoying Lucy and Carey’s scheming more than I should!! I loved reading them plot and gossip together!! Their friendship was one of the highlights of the book!!

And that ending!! I added a star just for the great twists and laughs!! I was going to put the away for the night but I was enjoying it too much to put down. This book put a big goofy smile on my face!!

Honeymoon Alone follows Lucy, a third-grade teacher who has never done anything out of her comfort zone, let alone leave the country.

After her sisters wedding, while the newlyeds are on their honeymoon, Lucy is tasked to water their plants. When Lucy is watering said plants, she overhears a message on their answering machine—her sister forgot to cancel their second choice honeymoon. Lucy takes it upon herself to finally do something crazy and goes on a honeymoon, alone! Along the way, she finds herself.. and maybe someone else too.

This book was super cute. I too have never left the county and if I had the opportunity, I’d definitely go to London, England as my first destination! My favorite movie is Love Actually, so that has to say something, right?

I thought I saw the love interest coming, but I was so wrong! After a short while, I was pleasantly surprised and loved the switcheroo! Honestly, a way better fit for Lucy!

Overall, I enjoyed this sweet and fast read. Definitely a light hearted distraction. I felt the need for a comfy blanket and a nice hot latte. You’ll get it when you read it.

If you love a good chic-lit, rom-com then this is the book for you. It took me on an adventure through the up and down hate to love story which is always the perfect Hallmark movie.

While this book is predictable, it was still very enjoyable. I can see it fading quickly as it touches on a lot of trending topics currently happening today which may not be as prevalent in the future.

To describe this book easily, I'd definitely call it "chick-lit." It was easy paced, funny, still cheesy, kinda predictable and all the things you'd expect in a Hallmark movie ....with a few twists at the end that leave you with a not so hallmarky feeling after all.

It's hard to absolutely LOVE this book as it was just ok for me. I'm not a huge chick-lit fan but because this kept me entertained I will for sure recommend it to friends that would gobble it up.

Who doesn’t love a good hate to love romance.
After seeing a psychic at her sister’s wedding and being told that the signs are all around her for finding love and happiness Lucy takes the plunge to go to London after her sister forgets to cancel their second choice of honeymoon defying and stunning her very protective family. The only problem is the hotel is for honeymooners only and Lucy is very single. Luckily Lucy meets up with an old school friend Cary who comes up with the plan to act as a married couple so they can stay there.
At the accommodation Lucy meets the “concierge” Oliver who continuously asks Lucy about her “marriage”. He seems to be in all the places Lucy goes and Lucy starts to enjoy spending time with Oliver. But all is not what it seems and the truth comes out New Years Eve. Lucy returns home and back to her life still single and heartbroken. Were the signs right and will Lucy find the love and happiness she longs for?
I really liked this book. The characters were all likeable and the writing flowed so it was not a hard read. I felt for Lucy and the frustrations she felt and the twist at the end was not expected which I loved because I always find that I can guess them before I should which turns me from finishing the book

As someone from a hands on family who never really experienced solo travel until after college, this book really resonated with me. Our protagonist, Lucy Gray, travels to London on her sisters backup honeymoon reservation and experiences the adventure of a lifetime. Romance, mystery, and self discovery. A perfect afternoon escape.

My kindle copy had formatting issues and at first I thought they would distract from the story. I was wrong. I loved this fanciful tale so much I read it all in one day. This story of a stuck in a rut 26 year old 3rd grade teacher with a family always working to keep her in her place totally changed after a psychic at her sister's wedding made her aware she needed to take chances in her life...to be aware of the 'signs.' She embarks on a trip from Massachusetts to London to use her sister's unused honeymoon hotel reservation and life will never be the same. I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy light, breezy romances with a touch of mystery.

Admittedly this isn’t my usual genre but with so much going on in the world I wanted to read something lighter and I really enjoyed this! It’s fun and captivating and a great book to escape into!

This was a fun book to read. Romance sorts aren't my usual sort of book, but this was a fun story and a quick read. The story starts at Lucy's sister's wedding and we get a view into her family, and, well, her life. She's a bit down and disappointed with life so when her sister's back-up honeymoon becomes available, she decided to break the cycle of doing what everyone else wants her to do and take a spur of the moment trip. Her first trip out of the country.

I cheered for Lucy as she stepped out of the usual and did something spontaneous. While I wouldn't have actually thrown my phone out the window to get away from endless text messages, I applauded her for continuing with her trip and taking the chance to have some fun. The addition of Cary, an old high school classmate and Oliver, the mystery man at the hotel added some drama, though not as much as I expected. The added news story of the "honeymooners' - a pair of criminals ripping off hotels while pretending to be on their honeymoon - was an additional element of drama. But it all worked for the story.

This fun book was a quick read with great character development.

This was a great first novel by Nicole Macauley.
It starts with Lucy as chief bridesmaid for her OCD sisters wedding having to do so much that their in apt wedding planner doesn’t do. She visits a psychic at the wedding and from her reading decides to travel to London staying at the hotel originally booked for her sisters stand by honeymoon destination which she forgot to cancel. Having never travelled abroad especially on her own she has an amazing adventure and finds friends for life. Can’t wait for the second novel.
