This was the first book I have read by this author and I'm glad I decided to try it. The storyline was good but the characters and their connection to each other were not developed. The story starts with them having already met and they had known each other in passing for two years. I felt like I had missed the first part of a book the way it started where Huxley had already kidnapped Phoebe and locked her in his office. I wish there had been more information to start with. It was fast-paced but also seemed rushed also. I think it had potential but just didn't reach it.
I received an ARC but am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Surrendering To Him is my first book by Hope Jones, but I was intrigued by the synopsis. I think this story has lots of potential, but didn't fully deliver.

Phoebe is an investigative journalist who is working on a cartel case. She doesn't even know she is in danger until Huxley, a PI interrupts her interview and literally throws her over his shoulder to get her out of the situation. Huxley has been working the case himself and knows that Phoebe is in way too deep.

For the last two years Huxley and Phoebe have never officially met until the day of said interview when he storms in and kidnaps her. The meeting between the two is very rushed, and there is nothing to base this relationship on at all. I mean you can't just lift a woman over your shoulder and decide to date now. He calls her babe immediately and they start kissing.. and I am left feeling like I missed something!?

I had to force myself to put this issue to the side in order to enjoy the rest of the story. I do like the main idea of this book and the mystery of the case Huxley and Phoebe are working on. Huxley is an alpha male with a soft heart, who clearly cares a lot for Phoebe.

This was a fast read that allowed to me to relax at the end of the day, but not something that kept me on the edge of my seat.

I received a free copy from the author/ publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This book jumps right into the middle of the story. There is no lead up to the love story, no real relationship before “hey I like you and your mine and I’m going to force you to like me to”. Phoebe had deep seeded issues and Hux just bulldozed into her life, taking control of her and everything she does and she just let him. She resisted loving him but she still caved so easily each time he did something that made her uncomfortable or angry. The story line was good but it felt way to rushed and a little to forced. If there had been more before the story started and then more of a getting to know you and less of a “I know everything about you because I did a background check but I’m not gonna tell you about myself. Oh and I’m going to tell you how to do your job, and stay at your house even when I’m not asked to”.

This is the first book that I've read by this author and if you like alpha males who take control & heroines that are not as tough as they think they are, then you'll probably like this. It reminded me of author Kristen Ashley. I liked the story line and thought that it was well-written. I will definitely read more by this author.

Phoebe Danvers is a reporter and investigative journalist the previous year she did a story on a gang in the area and the drug trafficking. Now she is planning on doing a story on the way the sheriff who got elected over the man who everyone thought should have won. Before she can start though Huxley Carson P.I. and former FBI agent enters the room and throws her over his shoulder carrying her out to his car cuffing her to his car and then taking her to bed. That part seemed a little dramatic. I got that it is a story and all but what guy has the right to just come up and put his hands on a woman like that, I know I taught my daughter differently.
Anyway, once I got past that and just about the story it was okay. Huxley is trying to take down the people that have moved into the town that is taking over the illegal activities and the sheriff is part of that as well. He is also wanting to protect Phoebe and just goes about it all alpha-like which she is not used to and though I liked the story as far as the action scenes my take on Huxley I felt he was a little over the top at times, that is just me. A good book none the less.

As long as you don't mind unrealistic story lines you will enjoy this modern romance. You can even have fun and make a drinking game out of how many times Phoebe says "fuckity, fuck, fuck"!

This book was quite interesting. Still can't decide if I liked it or not. I loved the witty banter and the romance, of course. But the writing kind of turned me off. It seemed a little childish and overdone.

If you like your heroes alpha and when they get hooked, its non-negotiable, this is the book for you. The heroine does stand up for herself and what she wants in life, but she did seem to fall for our man pretty quickly. Didn't like that tidbit that they never really interacted before and now they are together so fast. Cute read, definitely in the vibe of an Aurora Rose Reynolds or Alexa Riley book.

I received this book free from the publisher for an honest review.

The storyline was okay, but I was really put off by all the gratuitous swearing, so many f- bombs. There was quite a bit of repetitive thoughts/ actions, and the pacing felt rushed. It does give the requisite HEA for romances, though.

5 star

I was pulled right into this story. The story has pain, secrets, suspense, and heartbreak.

This is Phoebe and Huxley’s story. Phoebe's in danger and Huxley steps in to save her. But she just wants to save herself she doesn't wanna be involved with him. She just wants to focus on her work but little does she know he is out to have her forever. Hes always wanted her but this is his one in to actually get her. Can he protect her and also get her to fall for him?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book.

This book felt short and sweet but was easy to read.
I found the relationship eyebrow raising from the start with the way he took over her life and she allowed him to - considering she was written as a headstrong, independent woman.
The story moved at a good pace but I found the ending rushed. For instance, I wanted to know what happened to his sister and her son. This was set up to be an interesting storyline but then dropped.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

This book was hooooot as sin and I loooooved Hux. I had a good time reading this book, however I was disappointed in the heroine who did not feel well developed who always lost her brain capacity in a "hux fog" (which she made sure to mention at least once per chapter). I felt unsatisfied of how he took over her life and without her knowing him at all, really.
The chemistry was great through and the steamy scenes were steamy!! Recommend it if you are looking for a fun, light read.

Unfortunately this was a dud for me. The characters were felt, the romance was lackluster and the plot left me wishing for more. I did not think the relationship between Phoebe and Hux was well-developed and believable. I also found the humour during the more serious parts of the book to be off-putting and unrealistic.

I received a free copy of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The general idea and plot was great, but the execution left something to be desired. If some random guy I basically had never talked to barged into my work and threw me over his shoulder and left, I'd be pissed and call the cops, not aroused. And if Phoebe said "fuckity fuck fuck" one more time I was going to throttle her through the pages. It was ridiculous.

I really struggled with this book.

The book does take off pretty quick. Trying to pull you into Phoebe and Huxley’s world. It was really hard for me to connect that these two would jump into a relationship so fast. One minute you learn that they barely have interacted in the past and next thing you know she is in bed with him, having breakfast, talking about security systems. It was a little crazy.

I was just challenging trying to keep up and connect to these two. I loved Huxley, our alpha male, but I wished his character would have a little more development.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This story was great fun to read, Huxley so clearly cares for Phoebe but she is fighting him thanks to past hurt and seeing her slowly start to accept him made me happy
Phoebe is an investigative journalist and her latest story about local government corruption has put her in danger, Huxley is a PI who is also investigating the same corruption, however he has an insight and he wants to protect Phoebe from the bad that is heading their way
Huxley is the kind of hero that I so want in my life, he is gorgeous, dedicated and fiercely protective of those he cares about
Whilst I understand her reluctance, Phoebe did start to really annoy me at times. She hides from her feelings and seems determined to be in control all the time. I think part of the reason I struggled with her was because the story is written almost exclusively from her point of view. There is minimal narration from Huxley and I think this blocked me from fully understanding him as a character and his reasoning behind a lot of his actions, especially around Phoebe
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a dashing hero, protecting and making the world right whilst chaos devolves around them

This was the first book I read by Hope Jones and really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and how much Hux protected Phoebe when she got herself in trouble with the local drug cartel. The only thing I didn't like was that we really didn't get to see the chase, them meeting for the first time the story just jumped into him "kidnapping" her for her protection. After that Hux declared that they were a couple.
