Wow. I'm not even sure how to describe this. The summary itself was interesting, but the book surpasses any expectations I had. It does get very dark and "goes there".

Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Creepy. Fantastic. Holy hell. Maggie and Nina - it will be hard to forget this story. I’m eager to read more by this author!

This book was absolutely crazy and I enjoyed it so much!!! It was messed up in the best way and I enjoyed every twist and turn in the book. I really liked the complicated relationship between mother and daughter and how we never know who the unreliable one is. great book. I cannot wait to pick up more by John Marrs.

This is the first books I have gotten the chance to read by this author, and I was completely blown away. I cannot wait to pick up all the books by them! I found myself having so many different feelings throughout the whole story. I was scared, terrified, sad, giggly, and everything in between.

I'm a huge fan of books that have multiple points of view, so I found myself completely immersed in this one. I loved both points of view equally, which isn't the norm for me. Usually there is one or more I tend to enjoy reading from most. Both narrators were completely unreliable, and that is definitely my cup of tea.

This book had to have the most twists and turns I've read in the longest time. Psychological thriller would be an understatement with this one. I thought this was an insane trip into a mother daughter relationship I've ever encountered.

OK, what. did. I. just. READ?!? What adjectives can I use that haven't been used already abut this.....twisty, dark, disturbing, dysfunctional, wonderfully icky thriller that I just put down? While I'm short on original words, I would definitely recommend this book to others that don't mind a little twisted mother/daughter drama story in their lives. From the start, we know that Nina is keeping her 68-year-old mother Maggie chained in the attic and has been for the last two years. We don't know why - but we get all the juicy details in alternating POV chapters along the way, Nina and Maggie, past and present. This was a wild ride, and I hung on my my toenails the whole way!
Thanks to John Marrs, Amazon Publishing UK and NetGalley for the ARC.

This book was insane from start to finish. I ended up binge-reading this in a day because I could not put it down!!! Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she's done - this is kept a secret until near the end of the book. In revenge Nina keeps Maggie (mother) locked up in an attic, she is only allowed to leave this week every second night when the two of them dine together. What Nina doesn't know is that everything Maggie has done was to protect her daughter and will keep those secrets even if it kills her. This was my first book by Marrs, and it certainly won't be my last!

From the first few chapters I knew this was going to be a wild ride, it seemed like another plot point was added to up the craziness. This book was so wild and unbelievable. Although Maggie has done some things in her past, I was rooting for her freedom the entire book. I found myself often tense at the situations she was in trying to escape from her daughter. This book deals with some pretty heavy topics, the main ones being confinement and abuse - so I would go into this book with a lot of caution.

I had previously read the Passengers, which was okay, but I found this book quite slow and hard to get into. The story is okay, but it wasn’t for me. I didn’t connect well enough with the characters to enjoy it.

I'd had this book on pre-order for months and I couldn't wait to get stuck into it. I downloaded it at 00:01 on the day it was released so I could read it straight away. I absolutely loved it! Could not put it down! I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a psychological thriller. Thank you John Marrs for another wonderful read

'I received a free review copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest unedited feedback.' I love john matts so when I got a copy of what lies between us, I started it that same night. As disturbing as every good psychological thriller should be, this book is gripping from the start and I was up late into the night finishing it. A family saga that will have you swapping your locality between characters with each new chapter. A five star read as you would expect from Mr Marrs.

Another great read by John. Really enjoyed the storyline although guessed a few of the twists. Would read a follow up which explored the ending further, but appreciated as a stand-alone read

Wow! This is by far one of the most bizarre, dark, dysfunctional, and twisted books I have ever read. Well worth the read! I recommend going into this book blind and get all your surprises that way.

At first I didn't think that I was going to like this book...well I did enough to put it on my TBR and request it as an ARC, but then something kept holding me back from actually reading it! What was I thinking? This book was EXCELLENT!! The title is perfect! Lies can create MOUNTAINS between us! But then again, is there anything that you wouldn't do for those you love?

What Lies Between Us is about a mother/daughter duo, Maggie (the mother) and Nina (obviously the daughter). The blurb gives us an idea that something sinister is going on, but it doesn't really give you a clue as to who the sinister character is or really what is going on! This story was SPECTACULAR and I can promise you that I NEVER saw most of it coming! Nina would lead you to believe it was one way, then you'd hear differently from Maggie. It was alternating back and forth between the two throughout the whole story, which I really enjoyed!

Overall, lots of unexpected dark twists and turns to keep you entertained throughout the whole book! I don't think I've read a book by John Marrs prior to this, but I can assure you that I will now and I can promise you that I won't wait nearly as long! This guy's got it when it comes to writing!

Overall, this book knocked my socks off! This book was filled with all sorts of sinister and I LOVED it!!

Wow! I feel like I should have whiplash from all the twists and turns this book took me on. Just when I thought I knew what was going on, the story turned upside down. I settled into bed to read for a few minutes when I was at the 80% mark...I couldn't put it down and when I finished it and came back to reality it was 3:00 am (this is the sign of a great story). Go into this book knowing nothing about it, finding everything out is a lot of fun. Definitely a great read!
