Tadano just wants a normal high school experience, but when he befriends the silent and aloof Komi, he quickly realizes he’s not going to get what he wants. Komi has trouble communicating (obviously, I mean, read the title) but she also has a goal of making 100 friends. Hilarity ensues.

Komi Can’t Communicate was an insanely cute story. The characters were authentic, relatable and extremely cute and likeable. Komi’s awkwardness was written and drawn very well and included all the cringe. The plot was a little non-existent, but Komi, Tadano and Osana were all so adorable that the flimsy plot wasn’t really an issue. The story was still wicked entertaining and I will absolutely read volume 2!

First impression, I thought I’m not going to like this because this might be one of those outrageously way out there manga or possibly perverted. Wow 😳 was I wrong. I loved the story, the characters are very funny and are relatable, and the illustrations are cute.

Komi Can’t Communicate is a cute slice-of-life manga. The main characters Komi and Tadano struggles with puberty and fitting-in combined with funny awkward situations. I can’t wait to read their adventure and how they would navigate their relationship and gain more friends.

Thanks so much to Netgalley for providing an e-arc for me.

This book has been kind of a meme in the anime community so i was intrigued to find out that it was available on Netgalley. I simply really just enjoyed it. No further comments.

Tadano manages to get into a prestigious high school and plans to spend his high school years NOT standing out. Somewhat timid, his plans are almost immediately foiled when he meets, and then is assigned to sit by, Komi. Komi is the most beautiful girl he's ever seen and is held on a pedestal by her fellow classmates. Her behavior leads her fellow classmates to believe that she is just aloof, and therefore cool. Tadano, however, discovers that she is not aloof but actually is so shy and anxious that she is practically crippled when faced with having to utter a mere word to another human being.

Komi asks Tadano to help her via writing on a chalkboard. Her goal, to make 100 friends. Tadano agrees to help her and offers to be her first friend, taking her total goal number to 99 more friends. He helps her make friends with another student he previously went to school with who may or may not be a cross dressing boy (unclear?). Gender fluid maybe... Why ask her to be Komi's friend? Cause that student is super sociable and makes friends with everyone easily. Tadano hopes she can teach Komi a thing or two.

All in all the story was alright. I would put it more towards a humor slice of life category. It's mostly written in small chunks that are basically different scenarios Komi is placed in where she attempts, and mostly fails, to communicate with other people around her. Art is decent, though I wouldn't say there was anything overly eye catching about it. Liked it well enough, but I wouldn't call it overly memorable.

Komi can't Communicate vol. 1 was kind of a miss for me. The storyline was original but I found myself getting bored. The artwork isn't my favorite and the characters don't really stand out. Unfortunately, I don't think I would continue this series.

This was a delight to read and just so incredibly cute and light.
Slice of life mangas might be one of my favorites as they’re just so funny and while most don’t have a proper plot Komi Can’t Communicate did and it’s one I can definitely relate to.
Growing up I was painfully shy not as bad as Komi but it took me awhile to open up to people. Komi is gorgeous and doesn’t talk at all at school. She has a goal though and that goal is to make 100 friends.
Enter Taranto, a new student at the school and Komi’s very first friend.
What ensues is a manga packed full of laughter as we glimpse through Komi’s attempt to 100 and Tadano learning more about this awkwardly sweet girl.
This was a sweet manga which is hilarious and full of fun characters. I’m really looking forward to reading more especially since I relate to so much of it.

Thanks very much to Netgalley and the publishers for this copy of my ARC.

More like a 2.5 but I'm rounding up. I wanted this to be better than it was. In a way it reminds me of Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun in the very short arcs that lean more on humor than on narrative. I can like this, heck I just rated well The Way of the Househusband which does the same thing, but I found the vignettes in Komi to be a little underwhelming. I'd definitely give this mangaka another go, but probably not this series.

Komi Can't Communicate was an endearing story with a positive vibe. I loved the developing friendship between Komi and Tadano, and I thought the concept came across really well. The art style was pleasing and easy on the eye, and I turned the final page in this first volume interested to find out what would happen next. Definitely one I would consider continuing with, and I recommend it to fans of manga with contemporary, sweet and thoughtful story lines.

I received this book as a free eBook ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

After doing anything and everything he can think of to stand out, Tadano has decided that he's going to just be as completely normal as possible during his high school career. Like the rest of his classmates, he is awed by his classmate Komi, a gorgeous girl who embodies grace, poise, and elegance. Komi is put on a pedestal, admired, respected, and thought to be the epitome of perfection. However, Tadano soon realizes that there is something important about Komi that no one else realizes: she doesn't speak. At all.

Turns out, Komi has an incredible amount of social anxiety, and as a result has difficulty communicating and making friends. Despite this, Komi has a goal to make 100 friends. Tadano, as Friend #1, vows to help Komi with her goal. He encourages her to try new social situations in small doses, is her ever-faithful back-up and safety net, and introduces her to Friend #2, a gender-fluid social butterfly, and Friend #3, a girl who has just as much social anxiety as Komi.

3 down, 97 to go...

A cute slice-of-life manga, "Komi Can't Communicate" is a funny and sweet journey of navigating friendships, trying new things, finding yourself, and high school.

I honestly didn't like this one. I don't like its message, that introversion is a negative trait that needs to be fixed. Why can't the message ever be about the benefits of quiet introspection? I know that yes, some introverts wish to be more outgoing, but I think the majority of us would be equally happy to be accepted as we are instead of people always trying to push us into uncomfortable situations. This manga rubbed me the wrong way. I quit reading a third of the way through and wouldn't want to continue the series.

I guess I am on a manga binge, but this one was good too. The art was cute, the storyline had its merits and was full of humour, and I finished it in the blink of an eye. The chapters were broken into snapshots of moments when Komi struggles to develop her communication style, so this is an easy one to put down and pick up again periodically even though the pages flew by.

Komi Can't Communicate is a cute and funny story about a girl with severe social anxiety that prevents her from communicating clearly with the people around her. Her greatest wish is to be able to make one hundred friends, and to achieve this goal, she enlists the help of fellow classmate Tadano. While the two manage to hit it off by writing to each other on the chalkboard, getting Komi to open up and talk to other people is a bigger challenge with attempts that yield hilarious results. While Komi's failures are humorous, ultimately you will root for her successes, which are sweet and cute in their own way.

This was super cute! It was a lot better than I was expecting and I was happily surprised.

The development of friendship was super cute in this manga and I really enjoyed it. I really liked seeing how each friend learned about Komi and her troubles with communication. I really liked that her first friend was willing to help her and adapt to ways that she could communicate already.

Overall I really enjoyed this manga and I would love to continue on with the series!

3.5/5 ⭐️

This was a cute little manga novel. I liked the main character of Komi and liked how she felt fleshed out but also had an unreal aspect to this. This was fun and was not too taxing mentally but I wish that at certain points it was a little bit more realistic or emotionally charged as them moments felt flat.

I've been thinking about reading Komi Can't Communicate for months now, so I was delighted to receive a free copy through Netgalley. This manga is about Komi, a beautiful high school girl who is so shy and socially awkward, she's unable to even speak to her fellow schoolmates. Tadano also suffers from social anxiety, albeit a milder version, and while at first bowled over by Komi's beauty, realizes that they have many things in common. Through notes written on the blackboard, Tadano finds out that Komi secretly hopes for 100 friends.

I thought that this manga was just okay. I'm just not the right demographic, although I appreciated the irony of all the other classmates thinking that Komi, based on her looks and "regal" manners, is infinitely cooler than any of them. Some of them also assume that she's extremely popular. None of them have any idea how isolated and lonely Komi feels.

Social anxiety and severe shyness could be quite serious topics, but this manga is comedic and light. Komi is elected "God" of the class, starts a friendship with a girl who instead wants to be Komi's dog (which makes me feel a bit uncomfortable), and saves another friend from unsavory bullies through a comedy of errors.

Ultimately, I'm not sure I'm going to continue on with this series. There are a lot of other manga series out there that click with me, and this one just wasn't a good fit.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

I thought I would enjoy this one since I would be able to relate with Komi since she is socially awkward and has a hard time communicating. I totally am the same. The thing is, besides that I didn't find it to be quite humorous. The plot is very bland and not a whole lot actually happens. It is easy to lose interest in reading.
