I really enjoyed this! The characters are interesting and their backgrounds are introduced pretty quickly to give insight as to why they react in ways that are the opposite of how people usually would in their lines of work. The pacing is good, and the addition of an esper child makes this book far more interesting than if she had been a normal child. The art style is interesting (in a good way) and the characters' interactions feel natural, with the exception of just before they agreed to get married. In that sequence, it felt too much of a stretch for Yori to just brush off the spy's claims of it being a snapped psych patient coming after him.

After reading this, I pre-ordered the first two volumes! Can't wait to read the first one again!

This book was highly entertaining. Great story and artwork. Filled with spy action, funny, and heartwarming. This make-believe family is awesome. I'm rooting for them to stay together at the end. Can't wait to read more. Recommended read.

Thank you to Viz Media and Netgalley for providing a digital ARC.

I can say I did not know what I was getting into when I picked up this book but it was a wildly entertaining ride. The concept is unique in my memory; what with an assassin, a spy, and a telepath all working together towards a common goal even if their motives and their true selves are hidden from each other. You have three very distinct characters coming together to make what seems like a dysfunctional family instead very functional. I am interested in seeing where it does from here.

This was such a fun read. Anyone who loves manga or anime will love the balance of seriousness and action of the spy thread and the sometimes over the top humor of the family plot. Overall, I devoured it and can't wait to read the next one. A really entertaining read!

When a spy gets a new mission that requires him to get a child and wife to infiltrate a private school, he finds himself dealing with his toughest mission yet. Unbeknownst to him the child he chooses is a telepath and his wife is an assassin. The fun dynamic of the fake family in this book makes the story charming and often funny. Each character has their own reasons for needing a family that creates some interesting scenarios and makes it easy to want to root for their success as a family. I picked this up at a time when I was looking for a light read and the humor and zany plot of this fit the bill nicely.

When a spy needs a family for an undercover mission what does he do go out and put one together. He adopts a girl, finds a woman to be his wife. But when everyone has secrets and nobody is who they are pretending to be what is to become of this "family." Read this book it is heartfelt, action, comedy, family and more action.

It was a fun read!
This was honestly one of the most enjoyable mangas I have ever read. I know it is only the first volume, but I am already so invested into this series. As I was reading, I was mostly laughing hysterically! The father, an extremely talented spy, is tasked to assemble a fake family in order to complete his newest mission. As he is completely accustomed to working alone and gave up any notion of ever having a family, this proves to be quite a challenge for him. Unknowingly, he manages to get a wife who is an assassin and a daughter who is a telepath. They all have their own reasons to agreeing to this arrangement, but it is extremely comical to watch them try to pass as a normal family. I also want to point out how much I enjoy the art in general. Every reaction, facial expression, etc. is done so wonderfully and just adds to the humor throughout the story. The face Anya makes when she overhears something sketchy is priceless! If you're looking for a fun, light read, please read this manga!

What happens when you mix a spy, who needs a fake wife (who is an assassin), and a daughter (who is a telepath)? Lots of adventure and fun, that's what! Cleverly drawn out, witty, and intelligent, this story really works. I found myself rooting for them and wishing the story didn't end. But then again, there's always the next episode. Highly recommended.

I'm going to be honest, this one took awhile to grow on me. Mission One didn't really do much for me, but by the end of Mission Two this manga finally managed to get a real chuckle out of me. Mission Three was alright too.

Basically the premise is a master spy needs to gain access to a very prestigious school and the only way to do so is to enroll a child. But the school only takes students with two parents (for some reason) so Twilight, the spy, has to find himself a fake offspring who can pass the entrance exam and a fake wife who can help him get through the interview process in order to gain access to the school.

To make it more amusing the daughter he adopts has a special power and the wife is more than she appears to be. So Twilight and his 'wife' are basically using each other as a means to their ends and only the 'daughter' knows what both of them do for a living but never tells anyone.

The art is quite impressive in places. the humor is a bit slapstick, but amusing enough once you get into it. It's an amusing idea with a nice twist to make it feel more like a 'fresh' idea for manga. I feel like I watched a movie or tv show with a similar premise though.

I really enjoyed the hijinks of this manga. Great characters, fun situation. I didn't want it to end and cannot wait to read more about this family!

A fantastic book through and through, literally has just about everything going for it. Story is absorbing, the writing is smart and well thought-out, the art is good (particularly the settings), and the characters are the absolutely perfect blend of deep, entertaining, and amusing. I had a ton of fun reading this book, and I've got to imagine all readers will too. This is a title that has A TON of buzz behind it, topping many 'most-anticipated' lists. It's a title whose first volume gets the series off to a killer start, and you know it's only going to get better going forth. Nothing short of phenomenal, easily the class of any manga I've read so far in 2020.

Thank you to NetGalley and VizMedia for copies of reviews in exchange for my honest reviews.

Spy X Family has a perfectly balanced plot, action packed with a few touches of family problems.

I cannot say anything but "PERFECT" for this book. Twilight, a spy with high skills, is always trusted with dangerous missions, until he gets a new mission where he must have a family to make the mission run successfully. This is where the story becomes more interesting, he meets Anya who turns out to have telepathic expertise and recruits him as his daughter, then Yor who actually has difficulty finding a partner, but behind that personal problem, she is an assassin, an assassin who has unique skills too !! Twilight then recruits her as his wife, and complete the Folger family, part of the new Twilight mission. Imagine how unique the three characters are brought together, filled with a variety of unique interactions between them, and in the end they realize that they need and want to stay for each other.

Amazing reads, lots of funny scenes that are enough to make me not only smile, but laugh! Full of action, do not rule out the human side between characters, charming books. These three characters are so much fun being combined with their respective personalities, truly admiring this book! I can't wait to read the next Foger family book.

An interesting plot is presented here for the readers. I'm not sure if its a romance or an action novel. Its similar to the story of Mr. and Mrs. Smith but with the added bonus of a child. I'm am currently wondering how these people have made it far in their professions where they miss obvious clues as something not being part of the norm. Maybe that's why this works? The art style is unique and not over flowery. It can easily lend itself to that style but it has maintained its seriousness with occasional humorous drawings thrown in. The plot for volume one seems well developed but readers will have to see if it carries on in the future volumes. It will have to take care not to be similar to Black Butler which starts out as nonsensical but then develops the main plot in future volumes. An interesting read, that makes me want to read the next volume so check it out if you're looking for something new to read..

This started out a little slow for me. I loved the cover art and was really looking forward to the crazy shenanigans this family would get into. But it takes a bit for all of them to get together. While this makes sense for world building and characterization, I wasn't too interested in the action filled life of Twilight (though he was very impressive). He was too much of a blank slate.

Once the telepathic child, Anya, joins him things get a lot more fun and interesting. Through their interactions we see the hearts of both of them. Yor, the assassin, is kind-hearted, but very skilled and the last to join. Together as a trio this series starts to really shine. It's funny and light and heartwarming and exactly what I showed up for.

I received a review copy.

Whenever I find a book I really love I find it hard to review. This was everything I wanted and more and it's a story I didn't even know I needed in my life until now.
The characters were amazing and I am completely obsessed with them all. I just couldn't get over how this author managed to make me fall so in love so quickly.

Spy x Family has the perfect balance of plot, humor, character interactions and action sequences.

It was a delightful graphic novel. Though they fell into the three main archetypes, the three main characters were endearing, vulnerable, and simultaneously vicious. Of the characters, the little girl was my favorite between her hilarious reactions to her "papa's" thoughts and her obsession with spy shows and nuts. I burst out laughing a few times (which is not typical of me!). It's a cute comic and one I'm likely to pick up once it's available commercially.

I absolutely adored this! Twilight was a very interesting character to begin with. When one of his missions requires a wife and child what else can you do but find both. Anya was also super cute! And the Thorn Princess on the other hand is a badass! I really enjoyed the art style.

I found the story quite amusing at the beginning what with a spy thinking he can just order up a complete family unit in such a short period of time just to fulfill a mission? But then Twilight had only ever had to depend upon himself so in all honesty this was a bit new territory for him but he never backed down from a mission so here they are his newly fabricated unit trying to come off as a real functioning family for the sake of his mission......only something has changed and things have went from pretend to them actually enjoying the feeling of being a "real" family but will they stay together or go their separate ways when the mission is completed?

This was such a fun adventure with awesome artwork and dialogue as Loid/Twilight puts his family unit together and they begin rehearsing things a family should know about each other while dodging bad guys and all that fun stuff! I can't wait to see what happens next!

This book was amazing. I just have to lay that out now.
I’m not an avid reader of comic books. I don’t think I ever will be. But Spy x Family is really making me want to be! It starts off with Twilight completing one of his many missions and evading capture in true spy fashion. With mostly pictures and not a lot of words, it took me a minute to catch up to what was going on, but as I said, I’m not an avid comic book reader.
Anyways, after Twilight finishes his assignment, he gets a new one—he must infiltrate a high-society school in order to gain access to his target. And the only way to do that? Twilight must first get married and have a child.
This is when things start to get hilarious. In essence, Spy x Family is a comedy. But it also has some serious moments. Moments that show you the true nature of the world that Twilight lives in. Small peeks into deeper levels that I think will be explored more in the second book.
I won’t say any more for fear of spoiling the plot, but I will say, it was well written and the pictures were superb. And After reading the last sentence, I long to know what will happen next!
Spy x Family is a fun romp fit for anyone who enjoys action-adventure, comedy, comic books, or spy novels.
