This book wasn’t as I expected but it was a really quick easy to read book with a great story and a brilliant main character.

I enjoyed this story and think that it was easy to read which is perfect for during these current conditions where a heavy read would perhaps be too much of a challenge.

The main characters are husband and wife Thea and Drew whose children move out of their home and they return to Thea's childhood home. But when they move in, they realise that the village isn't very welcoming and they begin to feel uncomfortable. As they find out what happened, they realise why...

This is sold as a 'psychological thriller' and I would say that this isn't entirely true, but in a good way - I didn't need something which was totally tense and gripping, instead I wanted something with an air of mystery, some well-crafted characters and this book had just that. So, if you're looking for a dark and twisty book, this isn't it, but if you're looking for a story with characters and relationships at its heart with an air of mystery then this is perfect.

I found it really enjoyable and perfect escapism.

Review for 'My Husband's Lie' by Emma Davies

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers

This is the first book that I have read by this author. I would be happy to read and review more books by her.

I was originally drawn to this book by its colourful and intriguing cover and blurb. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, epilogue and 27 chapters which are of short to medium length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' (lol).

This story is told from Thea's point of view throughout and is set in one timeline.

This book is set in England which is always a bonus for me. I'm from Wales but visit England regularly on trips and holidays so have visited quite a few areas. This helps me picture places if they are mentioned in books and I have visited them.

One of the reasons I enjoyed reading this book is because I myself have recently moved back into the childhood home I grew up in with my own family this time. When Thea is walking to the school with her child having memories of her mum doing the same with her it is easy for me to feel as she is as I have done exactly the same.

Perfect setting for the story being in a small village where everybody knows everyone else and their secrets, sounds similar to where I live!!

The characters were all very strong and believable. I especially loved the friendship between Lauren and Tilly.

I do believe the title is a bit misleading to be honest. Although, yes, there were some things that Drew hadn't discussed I don't think I would base the title of the whole plot on his 'lies'.

The book itself was very well written with fantastic descriptions. The plot is filled with drama, relationships, friendships, rumours and deceit. I definitely didn't work out the truth of what was going on which is always a bonus.

The storyline was quite a smooth and easy read with some suspense which built up more towards the middle of the book.

I would recommend this book to fans of drama, low suspense and small village storylines.

298 pages

£1.99 to purchase on kindle. I think this is a bargain for this novel.

Rated 4/5 ( I enjoyed it) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon.Com and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

My husband's lie by Emma Davies.
When I stumbled across the listing for Pevensey House I knew I had found a way for my family to be free and I didn’t hesitate. I should have, I know that now…
A brilliant read. I really felt for Thea. I loved how Thea stood up for herself. Didn't like Stacey or Leo. I loved the ending. Perfect. 5*.

Childhood friends, now married with a beautiful family. Thea and Drew jumped at the opportunity to move to Thea's childhood home. Once settled in Thea begins to unravel the truth about her childhood. Why did her parents move in the first place and why is everyone acting so strange?

This story is a quick and easy read filled with family drama and plenty of twists. This was my first book by Emma Davies and I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Emma Davies and Bookouture for the opportunity to review this book!

To me this book was like every other novel about a husband and wife and their dramas. I do like the storyline but I am seeing a lot of the same story line over and over. Sometimes I wish the story would just take a different turn or have a Different Twist because they're all seem to be going in the same direction. The writing was good the characters are well written... and I know I picked this book so I knew what I was getting into but I am kind of getting tired of hearing the same story that lives over and over.

This book was a bit of a different read for me. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t the gripping psychological drama I expected. The book opens with Thea and her husband, childhood sweetheart Drew, and their children moving out of London and returning to the village where they grew up. In fact they buy the old rectory where Thea lived as a child until her family unexpectedly moved away when she was 11 years old. Drew isn’t too convinced about the move but is persuaded by Thea and her fond memories of living there. But Thea finds that the villagers are far from welcoming and when she discovers an old newspaper cutting hidden away in the house, her whole world falls apart. She realises that Drew has been keeping secrets from her. Thea then has a struggle to understand what happened in the past as she tries to build a relationship with their mother. Her relationships with her friends, as well as family, are put to the test as she struggles to keep her marriage together. I found this book a good read but I expected more from the title.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Thank you to netgalley for providing me with this ARC.

I wanted to like this book so badly but I was solely let down. I found the main character to be very overdramatic and her response to what she found out caused a story out of nothing. The book is severely mistitled it has nothing to do with her husband and bless him, she ends up taking out her rage and frustration on him. The plot itself started out promising, but fizzled into nothing and left me feeling underwhelmed.
The writing itself was pretty decent but I did find myself skimming the last couple of pages just to get to the end.

Thea sees her childhood home up for sale and she wants to live back there. Thea and Drew her husband have been inseparable for years they grew up in houses next to each other.
Thea believes they have a strong marriage but she finds out that he’s been keeping a secret from her.
The village is not what she was expecting to come back too. Everyone knows everyone’s business and they don’t take to Thea coming back.
This is a good book to get stuck into.
Thanks NetGalley

This was a quick and entertaining read! It was pretty atmospheric and engrossing. You spend the novel things are going to go one way and have them turn out to be something else, and that's what makes a good book.

This is one book I just couldn't get into and enjoy, it started off boring to me and It didn't get any better, I hope others can enjoy it, I did not.

I love a good thriller or mystery book. But i didn't really think this was either of these things.

I didn't really see the point or where she went with the whole 'lie' from her husband, it wasn't really that bad in my opinion and certainly wasn't worth a whole book about it and i figured out that the bully of the story had more to do with it!'

Not sure i would pick up another book by this author in all honesty.

This was a solid 4 star read for me. And realistic and chilling, with lots of shocks! I wouldn’t call it a thriller, but did get some great thrills and chills while reading it! Overall, I thought it was well written, fun, and very true on the whole secrets coming back to haunt you reality! Highly recommend to those looking for a fewer domestic drama, without the darker edge some thrillers bring!

This is domestic drama packed with secrets rumours and lies. I got caught up with all the characters lies. It was slow in places and also has its emotional side as well. Very glad to have come across this new author.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read "My Husband's Lie" in exchange for an honest review.

Ms. Davies wrote a gripping and engaging story with characters that you enjoy getting to know. The story is told from the perspective of Thea Bradley Gordon and her husband Drew Gordon. They have been a couple since they were children. They move back to Shropshire where they were born and raised. Pevensey House comes on the market and they decided to move back to where their roots are. Built in the Victorian Era, and served as the village rectory until the new vicarage was built.

Thea and Drew have two daughters - Chloe (9) and Lauren (8). They quickly become friends with Anna Grainger and her husband Rob the local curate. They have a daughter Tilly (8) who becomes inseparable friends with Lauren.

While Thea and Drew are happy to be back in Pevensey House - working from home, Thea soon realizes that a hush falls when she walks past people in town. People look at her with open curiosity longer than usual. Everyone seems to be talking about them, even though they have barely arrived in the village.

Back in June 1996 a girl names Georgia Thomas was attacked on her way home from Guides. The villagers have decided that Thea and Drew are somehow involved in this. Accusations fly back and forth until the true story comes to light.

A good family drama detailing a domestic life including lots of different emotions and relationships. Not a thriller but definitely a good story
