Review for 'FRANTIC' by Ann Voss Peterson

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Author Collective 20

This is the first book that I have read by this author. I would be interested in reading more of her books.

This is the third book in the 'Small Town Secrets' series. I read it as a standalone but I would probably advise reading the series in order as there is quite a bit of background with the characters which previous books would go into more detail in.

The book is a fast paced and exciting crime thriller filled with mystery, romance, betrayal and murder and filled with suspense. I was dragged straight into the plot from beginning to the cliffhanger end.

The story is told from several character perspectives which means you can see what is going on in different places at the same time which I always enjoy as you 'see' more of the story.

I didn't figure out who the 'Copycat killer' was so bonus points there as nothing worse than working out what's going on in a book before your even half way through.

Unfortunately, I do think there were a couple of unrealistic scenes where Diana was too involved with police work/allowed to do things that she realistically probably wouldn't have been allowed to. This lost a review point for me.

The characters were all realistic and interesting and I would like to read some of the author's previous work to read more about them.

I would recommend this book to fans of crime, thrillers and murder mysterious as well as anyone who has read any of the previous 'Small Town Secrets' books.

While this is technically the 3rd book in this series, to me the series is set in a community with each book being centered on a different person and their actions and/or responses. So yes, it's a series but it really reads more as a stand alone with people and personalities from the first two books wandering through the story.
A young woman has been traumatized in the past. She is building her life around her goal to be safe and secure, never a victim again. But this goal is not fool proof and she must learn to trust and accept help from her past. The story is very well written, the characters very well defined. My husband says he can tell how good a book is by my sound effects....this one was very good!!!!

Left me on the edge of my seat wanting more! I love this series. This is Diana's story. We met her in the last book and events from that story have a big impact on her. I love the tenuous relationship between her and Bobby. Many characters from previous books appear along with a few new. The suspense and tension are high in this one and the action is fast paced. The killer from this story is revealed while setting things up for the ongoing plotline to continue in the next story. Vicious will conclude the Sins season of the series and I can't wait to see how it all ends.

FRANTIC..Ann.Voss.Peterson
Diana daughter of a series killer, has been kidnapped, which also cost her a fiancé..Is there a connect or just a copy cat imitating her father. She sets herself up so that he will go after her, it has adventure, mystery and a good plot.. Part of a series, but can be read separately.
Given ARC by Net Galley and Author C 20 for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

A well written book with the author telling the story with changing third person POV, and it works great. The characters are very good, and there is mystery, action, romance and sex. The book is part of a series, but I think it's OK to read it as a stand-alone. What isn't OK is the nonsense necessary to instigate the action scenes.

I knew I had to read this because I read the prior book, Captive, and I wanted to see what was happening. This is the third book in the series and it is standalone but would be better read in order especially because the second book features Diana’s (the current heroine) twin sister. This is a fast and exciting read. Diana was kidnapped from her wedding to Bobby in the prior book. In this book, she is still reeling from that and they still have to find the copycat killer who is mimicking the kills that her father made (the first book in the series details his horrors, I assume, though I didn’t read that book.) She had broken up with Bobby but they work together, along with other characters that were featured in these books, to track down the killer. I found the mystery of the copycat not so mysterious and quite a bit obvious but still, I enjoyed the story. It ends in a cliffhanger although the romance aspect does conclude happily with this book. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. Thanks to NetGalley for this opportunity to read the book.

Diana Gale was kidnapped from her own wedding a year ago. Barely escaping, she has vowed she will never a victim again. She's taken self defense courses, defensive driving, martial arts..she's done as much as possible. Unfortunately, it cost her a life with Detective Bobby Vaughan, her one upon a time fiancee.

Diana is the daughter of a serial killer. Her father is now in prison, but there is a copycat killer loose and imitating her own father.

She does 2 things she never thought she'd ever be doing .... but either one of these will put the copycat's eyes on her.

Vaughan has never got over being thrown over, and he still has a soft spot for Diana, but in order to keep her safe, he's going to have to forgive her and allow her to participate in finding the copycat.

This is third in the series, and although there were mentions of things that happened in the first books, I believe I would have benefited from having read the books in order. There is a 4th book coming out March 2020.

Suspense starts at the beginning, but again, reading the books in order would have made this much more riveting. It is well written and the ending was explosive. It did leave a cliffhanger, but that will be solved soon.

Many thanks to the author / Author Collective 20 / Netgalley for the digital copy of FRANTIC. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
