This is an engaging book full of twists and turns. It was a complete page turner and I couldn’t put it down.
A great book

The main character escapes her abusive partner and goes to live in a backwater somewhere in the States. She eventually befriends a couple of neighbours and is willing to tell 'one white lie' to help the man out of a sticky situation. Unfortunately it all goes terribly wrong.
A real page turner. 12/10

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

A great thriller that had me gripped - such a cliche, I know! Well-thought-out and shocking in places. An author I'll be watching out for in the future.

I found the plot quite slow, which spoilt the psychological element, and the characters were quite unlikeable on the whole. I would read more from the author but this one fell flat for me.

A psychological thriller about a woman escaping her abusive ex boyfriend to live in a rural artistic community. Unfortunately, the story was slow, the main character underwritten and sly.

Lucy has fled to the small town of Woodstock, New York, to escape an abusive relationship. Very quickly, she befriends her neighbours, John and Vera, and they become close.
John and Vera aren’t well liked in the town and there have been rumours about John having an affair with a sixteen year old girl. They’re planning to stage John’s death to stop the rumours, and Lucy agrees to help.

This story had potential to be really gripping and tense, but it just didn’t work for me.

I thought the story really dragged for most of the book, and only picked up a bit about halfway through.

I had a suspect from early on in the story, and it turns out I’d guessed correctly. It just felt like too many twists had been shoe horned in to the latter part of the story. This made it unbelievable and unrealistic for me.

Most of the characters were really unlikeable and lacked depth. I didn’t care about what happened to them and maybe that’s why I felt the story dragged so much.
The only character I really liked was the dog!

I ended up skim reading most of the book just to get it finished.

It had potential to be a good thriller, but too many unbelievable twists and awful characters let it down for me.

Thanks to Michael Joseph UK and NetGalley for providing a copy for review.

Haven't read much by Ms Konen, but I'm glad I got this one to read. It was entertaining, gripping and kept my glued until the end. I love good mysteries, and can't wait for the next one. Recommended.

I really enjoyed this book. I got really invested in the characters and there were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Definitely worth a read.

A book full of lies, Ex’s and revenge, mistrust and problems, are your friends who you think they are, who can she trust? I had no idea to be honest and thought it was a fabulous book. Thought it was a bit of a slow burner actually for a while but it got going and then I was happily flying through the pages, good book and great characters too, would recommend.

I would not describe this book as a thriller. There was a lot of repetition in this book I almost gave up carrying on with it. I also found the main character unlikable.

I started this book excited for a new psychological thrill ride. However I found it fell short. It was frustratingly slow to start with, the only really Twista happening at least halfway into the book.

I found the 'twists' predictable and had already worked out who the killer was far earlier on in the book. I didn't like the characters decisions throughout the book which made it hard to be on her side. Overall the story was good with potential to be great but the execution falls short.

This author is new to me, and I'm glad I gave her a go. The book is beautifully written, with plenty of twisty plot points. The topics are sensitively handled, and the characters are sympathetic.

Lucy has escaped her abusive boyfriend and no-one knows her in Woodstock or her history. She's been very careful to cover her tracks well so that he can't find her.
She meets her new neighbours and finds them enigmatic and is drawn to them. They become very close and spend almost every evening together. They ask her to do a favour - all that's needed is for her to tell one white lie and they'll take care of the rest. Does it all work out? Probably not....
This book was ok, it had some good parts in it, but I just found the story a bit busy for me personally and some parts of it felt like the story was rushed. Still worth 3 stars though.

One white lie can sure start a train of runaway events. A story of new friends, mistrust, lies and revenge. A story to keep you guessing with major twists. Gripping.

Although the characters in this book aren’t particularly likeable and the title of one white lie is just wrong, I did quite enjoy this book. I liked the way the tension ratcheted up and the various twists kept me interested and guessing until the end. I’ve had to reduce the star rating as I didn’t find Lucy credible or her motivations.

5 Stars from me

Oh wow! So good!

One White Lie is just brilliant - if you love a psychological thriller you will love this book! Fans of having your head messed with (think Gone Girl) will LOVE One White Lie.

Vera and John - I'd love to be friends with those guys, the idyllic relationship that Lucy had with them was the stuff of dreams. It was like she just totally landed on her feet with the perfect place, her lovely dog, V&J as ace neighbours, Maggie as a dog walking chum and being made so welcome in the local cafe. Perfect, right?

Chuck in an abusive ex, a small amount of mystery surrounding your new best friends, visits from their ex-best friend and a tonne of alcohol and things start to get murky.

Policeman on a mission, McKnight, was great too - I'd have confessed within about 20 minutes!

Great storyline, shocks a plenty and a superfast addictive read.

I loved it!
