After reading Where the Missing Go by this author last year I was keen to read more. I had read such mixed reviews of You Can Trust Me but I really enjoyed it in the end. It is a twisty and frustrating read at times, with not just one but 2 unreliable narrators to figure out. Nothing is as it seems and it wasn't until towards the end when it started coming together that I appreciated the story for what it was. I do recommend this book, but can see why people have not liked it. I read it in an afternoon, sick in bed but not sleepy.

Nicky is a ghostwriter who is struggling to pay her bills. Olivia is an Instagram influencer with thousands of followers and a seemingly perfect life. Nicky arrives to the family estate to write Olivia's story to find that she is very closed off about her past. But why? The writer in Nicky cannot help but be intrigued and begins to investigate it herself. What she discovers is shocking and doesn't add up? What is Olivia hiding and why?

I won't say anymore as to do so will spoil the twists and ending. Just go into this with an open mind an you should enjoy it.

Thanks to Netgalley and Orion Publishing for my advanced copy of this book to read.

An enjoyable read with an unusual (first time?) protagonist in the form of a ghost-writer.

The perfect lifestyle of Olivia and her family is nicely described and detailed but Nicky suspects that Olivia is hiding something from her past. To be honest the resolution is pretty unlikely and far-fetched but the author keeps us interested in what happened and we do finally get to understand what and why. Neither of the 2 lead characters are particularly "nice" nor are the majority of the supporting cast but as I said earlier this did not prevent me from enjoying the quick and easy read.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher or the ARC.

This was really an unusual read, with nothing as it seems, and the story is told by an online blogger. almost remind the reader of the hit tv series 13 Reasons why. Recommended for anyone who likes another type of read than the normal straightforward story.

There are two sides to every story. But who is telling the truth?

Nicky is a ghostwriter hired to write Olivia Hayes book. But the more Nicky pushes to learn the truth of who she is the more Olivia withdraws. Why is Olivia so secretive about her past? And why does Nicky seem to care so much? Who really are these women?

Overall a decent enough mystery although a bit disjointed. I honestly didnt care for the characters. None really possessed any amiable traits. I appreciated the many twists the book attempted to take, however they weren't believable and left me feeling unsatisfied.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

With today’s focus on Instagram and blogging and social media influencers - I had high hopes that this would be relatable and modern, but it felt a bit tired and familiar! Told in the first part by Nikki who has been employed by Olivia to ghostwrite her autobiography. Nikki finds there’s more than meets the eye with Olivia a past and starts to snoop! 2nd half is Olivia pov and although It kept my interest it just wasn’t enough to go over 3 stars!

I have rounded this up to four stars. I liked the plot and the way everything comes together. I feel though that I did not really know the characters by the end and that things were a bit confusing and muddled in places.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

This was an unusual and modern novel, involving a blogger who has an immaculate lifestyle and lots of followers, but she also has a rather difficult and mysterious past.
A ghost writer volunteers to write her life story and uncovers a great deal of background to an immaculate lifestyle.
A good book, I enjoyed it.

The author has clearly messed a few things up. Some things didn't make sense. The book is thrilling overall but it doesn't look relatable or something that can actually happen. The actually twist was not mindblowing, not unique. I don't know why the end is like that because it makes the whole story a complete misunderstanding. I liked the vibe of the book when I finished it but now that I think of its story, I am not sure if I recommend this.

This book has a really strong opening, an unknown narrator watching a house burn down. This is the core of the mystery. Then, Nicky, the protagonist (mostly) is a ghostwriter -- which was an aspect of her character that I really enjoyed -- sent to spend time with an aloof influencer in her country manor, renovated after a fire.

It's apparent that Olivia the influencer is hiding something, never wanting to talk about the fire that killed her father. Nicky works as an effective detective figure, piecing the mystery together by talking to Olivia and people throughout the village in the name of ghostwriting Olivia's book.

It felt like there were a few cheap tricks to jazz up the end of chapters -- the halloween mask in the basement, the disembodied voice on the dictaphone -- which got a bit frustrating to read. Without giving too much away, I did like that both Nicky and Olivia were unreliable narrators.

the overall resolutions and various twist reveals answered all the questions, but felt a bit messy and rushed at the end giving it all a slightly unbelievable feel. But this was an easy read, one that I stormed through and kept going until the end because I really did want to find out what was happening.

I really really wanted to love this book, as it had so much to intrigue from its premise: mysterious influencer, ghostwriter narrator, old family secrets, and a mysterious house fire. Sounded amazing! And those things are definitely there in the story.

Unfortunately, the book didn't deliver on its promise for me: the way it was written is very "telling not showing" - pages and pages of explanation after each twist or reveal to ensure the reader really knows what happened, with little to no actual action on the page.

This might just be my taste, and I really hope others enjoy it. It does have echoes of Gone Girl in its structure and delivery, which I think many will love. So if you're a big fan of Gone Girl and unreliable narrators, this might be the book for you!

This novel revolves around Olivia an internet, lifestyle guru and Nicky the ghostwriter she engages to write her autobiography. From the outset Nicky feels that there is a hidden story and she wants the gritty truth.

This story is told from Nicky's perspective initially and the second half is from Olivia. There is a barely hidden hostility between these two women from the outset, one trying to hide the past and the other trying hard to uncover it by what ever means. The supporting cast of characters are on the whole annoying and unreliable, as are Nicky and Olivia. Parts of the story development were predictable, but there were a few surprises It wasn't my favourite read of the year but it was an easy read

After reading such mixed reviews with this book I'll admit I was slightly apprehensive of what it would deliver BUT I am so pleased I read it, I really enjoyed it!

Written from the POV's of 2 characters with the odd flip of timelines, it flawlessly flows between the two characters Olivia and Alex.

The twists and turns are fantastically written, just when I thought I had figured it out another bump in the road appeared to swerve me off in another direction.

The first half of the book, like alot of them on the market could be quite slow going for some BUT STAY WITH IT because the second half will have you wishing it would slow down, there is a whole load of information thrown at you in a short space of time your mind will be wanting to catch up.

This is not a book you can skim over! Emma Rowley expertly brings the second half altogether by reciting very small sections of the first half that you'll have needed to pay attention to!

Fantastic twisty read!

Huge thanks to netgalley and Orion Publishing for the ARC .

This is a book written in three parts . Nicky is a ghost writer and is getting to know Olivia, an instagram influencer, in order to write her biography . Olivia seems to have a perfect existence, having it all , the beautiful house, a child and fantastic house. Nicky has not been so fortunate. She seems very sensitive to feelings in others and draws her own conclusions about what is behind them. She starts to investigate the death of Olivia's father in a fire in the house years before (the house has now been rebuilt) but can't seem to get Olivia to open up about this and other aspects of her past. As the first part ends , Nicky seems to become somewhat paranoid in the house and to have opened up a can of worms and to be judge and jury for a crime without an awful lot of evidence. As you are reading, you hope it'll end ok, but you also have a dreadful feeling that it won't .
The second part is written in the voice of Olivia. she seems very detached from her life in many ways and does what she does for the impression is creates. She too drawsconclusions about what people think and about what behaviour she expects of them . Needless to say that life does not always work that way and Olivia's life falls to pieces.
I am not going to say much about the third part of the book because the story takes an unexpected turn . This was the best part in my opinion. The book starts off quite slowly and the thought processes of the two women, although fascinating, give the impression that they are quite self-centred and shallow minded but "the crimes" are the thread running through the story which keep the reader interested.
A very atmospheric book, I liked the descriptions of the people and the surroundings. You feel the fears and the frustrations.

Thank you to Net Galley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review . I will look out for more from this author

An interesting thriller which was clever, unpredictable and haunting. I liked it a lot and enjoyed reading it. The main gripping factor is the fact that it is so believable and could happen. I enjoyed that aspect of it a lot.

An easy paced thriller that was engaging.

It was told from the perspective of two individuals in two halves of the book. The first three ghost writer who is there to write a book about an influencer. The second perspective is that of the influencer.

The influencer, Olivia, has a past she doesn't want to talk about and the ghost writer is desperate to find out why.

It was an interesting book that kept you turning pages

Oh this book was incredible. So tense and claustrophobic. Just a fanaticaly well written book exploring the deep dark secrets people hide. I went into this one blind, having already read and lobed many of this authors books. Highly recommended xxx

I’ve had this book on preorder for TWO YEARS so if I say it was one of my most anticipated books of this year then that’s no understatement! Having read adored Emma Rowleys debut novel Where The Missing Go, I had immediately preordered You Can Trust Me and so when it did arrive, I wasn’t wasting one second and started it as soon as I could (sorry TBR list!!). And what a book! Highly addictive with interesting characters and some major twisty turny plot shocks, I raced through this book desperately seeking answers to the many questions it threw up. And what an ending! Needless to say Emma Rowley delivered once again for this reader!

With so many Instagram accounts becoming huge influencers nowadays I could relate to Olivia and how her lifestyle account gained such a huge following. Instagrammers are fast becoming the new celebrities in our social media driven culture and their followers want to know everything about them-what lies behind the glossy photo setups and perfect lifestyles they promote. We feel we know these “normal” people personally due to the fact they often share every part of their life online but we always want more. So it didn’t surprise me that Olivia chose to present her advice to her followers in book form (a much more permanent communication). She seeks out an experienced ghost writer, Nicky, who travels to the stunning family home that Olivia shares with her husband Josh and 3 year old daughter Bea. But for someone living in the public eye Olivia doesn’t seem to have much of her past on show and when Nicky starts digging around, she discovers things that Olivia would rather stay buried in that past. But how far will she go to prevent Nicky uncovering her secrets?

I loved how this story was presented with a major and unexpected twist occurring that threw me off the trail I was convinced I knew I was following. But the shocks kept on coming and I read till the end with my jaw firmly dropped onto the floor. Emma Rowley has very cleverly taken her characters and developed them slowly, unraveling the past to knit together the present. I was gripped, entranced and astounded by their actions throughout You Can Trust Me, but the last thing I felt like doing was trusting any of them!

I thoroughly enjoyed this second psychological thriller from Emma Rowley and it definitely lived up to the promise I saw in her debut. And it’s on at 99p at the moment so grab it while you can!
