Ada loves dogs and absolutely adored this book! It has such lovely illustrations, and tells a wonderful story about pups and their adventure. It shared lots of other animals and surroundings, giving us a brilliant opportunity to point them out and make their noises, as the pups passed them. We love this book and think it is a great book to buy!

Pups on the Run by Hannah Beene Hurdle is a cute adventure story about two mischievous pups. The story follows Kaya and Hazel, two dogs who can't resist the open gate. They want to see what is out there, so off they go, playing in the big, wide, world. They are having so much fun, they don't realize it is getting dark. When they try to find their way home, they realize they are lost and begin to wander into the woods. Hazel gets quite scared, but eventually they see and smell some familiar sights and quickly make their way home. Both my grandchildren were happy that they made it home safely and were quick to point out that they shouldn't go out alone, but we also talked about who might have left the gate open. There is not really a strong message in this one, just a cute story about two dogs having an adventure. The illustrations were quite cute and we enjoyed the expression on their whimsical faces. Both the 3 and 6 year old enjoyed this story, but each took something different from the story. I recommend this to families with dogs, as well as schools and classrooms especially when learning about pets and how to care for them.

My 5 year old really enjoyed this book. The story flows really well and it was easy for me to read to her. We also both really enjoyed the beautiful artwork. When I asked my daughter what her favorite part of this book was, she said the pictures, because they tell the story.

This is a cute cartoon style picture book for young children about two puppies Kay's and Hazel who go outside beyond their garden on an adventure but end up forgetting their way home and it becomes dark. Thankfully they start to recognise things they passed or saw on their journey out and find their way home.
This book was good but could have done with a little more of a story to it than it had, but its definitely worth a share with your little one if they like dogs.

what can I say about this book other than it is the epitome of adorable!

I read this book to my younger sister and she was enthralled by the story and very eager to find out how it ended!

I would classify this as a children's book however as I was reading it I did appreciate it a lot too!

amazing illustrations and super cute storyline!

I liked this cute little story. I did enjoy reading this book, but I almost feel like it needed to be just a little bit longer. The reader doesn't have enough time to really connect to the characters or their emotions throughout the story. I did enjoy reading it though. I liked the different dogs and the different animals and enjoyed their journey. I also enjoyed the little exercises suggested in the very beginning of the book.

A quiet story about two dogs wandering away from their home on the farm. The dogs get lost and then eventually find their way home. The illustrations were simple in gray toned colors. Children who love dogs may enjoy the story.

Two dogs have an adventurous day when they tumble down a hill and end up losing their way home. Extremely cute and adorable! A perfect quick read for kids.

Pups on the Run! by Hannah Beene Hurdle is a simple story about some puppies that escape out the fence, go exploring, get lost, and have to find their way back home. It's a sweet story with cute illustrations, almost like a simple graphic novel. Overall, it's just an okay book - everything is pretty simple and not too complex. Not a monumental story, or much more of a lesson to learn other than things don't always go as you might expect.

Thank you to NetGalley and Doodle and Peck Publishing for the advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A sweet story about some distracted dogs! The illustration style is very cartoonish, almost like it might prep kids for reading graphic novels in the future.

A huge thanks to NetGalley and Doodle & Peck Publishing for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was sadly a bit disappointed with this book. The art of the dogs is very cute, but everything around is a bit too simplistic. There is a lot of empty space that I feel could be much better used.

Storywise, there isn't really a message to the children here. I suppose not every picture book needs a message and/or lesson, but most do, and this one misses the mark a bit. It also moves very fast and choppily. I couldn't follow the change of time, and still don't know how long they ended up being lost.

I suppose if you really want you can take from this the book the message that sometimes things don't go according to plan and can be really scary at the time, but looking back was also a lot of fun.

But then, this book is for kids, and I'm sure they'd enjoy it a lot more than I did!

I read this book this morning with my daughter and we loved it!

I loved the images and the story was great, there was adventure, fun, a little bit of mild peril as they like to say and it was lovely to read it together.

The book had a great flow to it and I loved the spirit that comes through from Kaya and Hazel too – 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!

This was a cute picture book about a pair of adventurous pups that leave their farm and get lost. I liked it and would have fun reading it to my nieces and nephews as their dogs are quite mischievous as well.

This was very cute! Puppies Hazel and Kaya go on an adventure, eventually getting lost. They use their super nose to sniff their way home and all is well.

A perfectly pleasant book for the young, but one that doesn't really have a heck of a lot to it. Two puppies flee the confines of the farmyard they live in – although they also seem to know some of the outside world, as they know there's a pond there… Either way, the drama starts when they stay in the free countryside too long, and end up lost. It's a good evocation of the pleasure in constantly exploring, and of having the energy and fearlessness to go on adventure after adventure, but that's it.

Pups on the Run by Hannah Beene Hurdle is a sweet, little tale full of cute puppies!

This cartoon-y book is a sweet, little read for young readers. The pictures are adorable (seriously, the one dog rolling because they can't run - cute!) and the story is light and easy to read. The pups got out when the gate was open, which seems like most dogs in my neighbourhood. I can see little readers enjoying the fun of this book any day of the week!

There is some drama, with the pups getting lost. But don't be worried! This story is overall very sweet.

I really like that at the beginning of the book there's a Linking to Literacy section. I think it's super smart and super helpful in the educational department. I personally haven't seen Linking to Literacy around in any of the books I've read, so I can totally appreciate this little bonus material in the book!

My biggest downfall of this book was that I couldn't find a real theme to it, and that's hardly bad at all. This book is just a simple story to read to your kids about dogs getting lost and finding their way home.

Overall, I like this little picture book. It's nice, easy to read, packed full of colour and can be used for educational purposes.

Three out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Doodle and Peck Publishing for giving me an opportunity to read this book.

4.5/5 stars!

This is a wonderful children's picture book featuring pups having an adventure for a day. Basically, the two pups got out of the yard, enjoyed the day, and learned to return back home using their innate smell and landmarks. The illustrations are beautiful and made the story special. I would definitely recommend the book.

My kiddo loves dogs, so I was hopeful he'd enjoy this one-- he did and was very relieved the pups found their way home.

The story follows Kaya and Hazel, two dogs who wander out of their open gate and the adventures they have. Then, they realize they're lost and not sure how to get home. Luckily, they soon recognize some familiar landmarks and are able to make it home. The illustrations were beautiful in this one, as well.

Loved that the author wrote this about her own pups; guessing this story might have happened to them in real life!
