Okay, first off, the final chapter?! What? The book just ends. It finished and I wasn’t ready for it. I feel like it need at least one or two more chapters, to bring everything to a close. I did enjoy the book though. Not your usual plot, so it was good to have something a bit different..

OMG why didn't I read this when I received it in 2020 - probably the pandemic and too much work.
This was absolutely brilliant and I couldn't put it down - more by this author please.

I have not been able to connect with the main character...... i mean, we are following a serial killer! Unfortunately, the plot did not do much for me.

David Jackson never disappoints. The Resident is one hell of a nail biting read. It was a gulp it whole kind of book so be prepared to drop those household chores for a bit!

When an abandoned house with an attic space links houses, Thomas has the perfect place to hide. Thomas loves the games he can play and secrets he learns as he hides. It fuels him as he is a serial killer. This was one brutal read but so good! Thank you to netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This book syatted off great. Had a lot of action then it soon became situated in just the one house. I did it interesting but couldn't help but want more.. The ending was rather odd as well. Felt like a big build up for not much.. However i would like to read more from this author as i liked the style

This book was disturbing, creepy and completely twisted. I absolutely loved it!

We all hear noises that houses make in the night. We all have those feelings that we’re not alone. And we’ve all had the feeling that someone is watching us. But what if they weren’t just feelings and a serial killer was living in your attic, watching every aspect of your life? This is a reality for Colette and Martyn when serial killer Brogan takes residence in their attic and things are about to take a dangerous turn.

Full of suspense and tension this book kept me on the edge of my seat. I will definitely be recommending this to you everyone.

This book is not your average serial killer thriller.
Thomas Brogan is a serial killer who loves to play some seriously twisted games with his victims before killing them, the games are the best bits as far as he’s concerned.
The book starts with him on the run after a series of brutal and gruesome murders. He hides out in an abandoned terraced house and soon discovers that he has access to the attic spaces above the other houses in the terrace.
Here Thomas can spy on the people living there while, alongside the dark voice he hears in his head, he plans who will be his next victim.
The chapters are short and the story skips along quite nicely.
This is a really imaginative story that will have terraced house owners rushing up into their attics to check for rogue residents.

this book sent chills down my spine, i felt like i was up in that attic the whole time. i had to check my loft ladder was still in place after i'd red it it was that good! books like this don't come along that often but when they do it's well worth it! i would rate this much higher if i could.

Just to say I'm glad I live in a detached house. It will have you on the edge of your seat. David Jackson is such a good writer.

I could not put this down! I wish that I’d picked this one up sooner to read and review and I will be raving about it to anyone who will listen! An absolute thriller and told from a very unique angle: from the mind of a dangerous killer. The characterisation, plot and sheer brilliance of the story kept me turning the pages well into the evening. I can’t wait to read more of David’s work.

I'm always a little bit sad rating a book 2 stars but I couldn't give this anymore, it just didn't work for me.

While The Resident isn't a bad book by any means for me it was far to lacking in plot and really any kind of action. I think I expected going in that Brogan would be trying to get to them all and kill them rather than what he ended up doing which was literally spending most of the time eating or hiding in the attic and playing pranks.

It also wraps up in about 25 pages, would have preferred it to have had a bit more of an ending. Felt lacking after waiting all that time for it to get to that point.
Sad that I didn't like this more but in the end you can't love everything you read.

Thank you so much to netgalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

What a fabulous polt. I loved this book, well-written, great-plot, good characters, plenty of intrigues. I cannot wait for the next one.

Oh Jesus I didn’t sleep for days and every noise in my house had me in cold sweats after reading this! A seriously creepy book that had me up all night getting through it (with the big light on)!! I read so many books like this that to be honest it’s a pleasure to be freaked out (I’m odd I know).

Brilliantly written, I wanted to read with my eyes closed which is obviously impossible 😂 fantastic book I loved it even though it creeped me out far too much than it should have, one of my favourite books in a very long time!!!

This was a fantastic ride of a novel. I can't think of anything scarier than a serial killer that lives in your house! Thing is, in this story, the house owners don't have the first clue that he's there, lurking in the shadows. The serial killer himself is a nightmare incarnate and scared the living daylights out of me.

This is truly a wonderful book that grabs hold of you from the outset and doesn't let go until the very last word on the very last page, choking the very last breath out of you, forcing you to give in to its demands. A totally thrilling ride with a chilling protagonist. This will stay in my memory for some months to come.

Five stars.

Everything about this from cover to synopsis appealed to me. I couldn’t wait to dive in, which is why this book was a huge disappointment. The start was amazing! I was hooked and couldn’t wait to get to the good bits, but they never came. The pace stayed the same throughout, the plot was unexciting and non-existent, and the ending was predictable. I didn’t get the creepy atmospheric feelings that other reviewers have been raving about either. There are a lot of people who have enjoyed this one, but I was hoping for more of a Chris Carter style thriller from this synopsis and instead felt it was more of a watered down peeping tom story.

I have seen excellent reviews for David Jackson’s other books, and I am keen to pick them up to read. One thing for sure is Jackson’s writing style is easy to read and albeit this book was not my cup of tea, I certainly was able to turn the pages quickly.

Please do give this book a go – if we all liked the same things then there would be no need for creativity.

Thank you to NetGalley, David Jackson and the publishers for the opportunity to read this title.

What a truly chilling book!! Thoroughly enjoyed it, it was very gripping. Certain parts actualy made me feel physically sick 🤣.
Won't go into detail as I don't want to ruin it. I also really enjoyed how David Jackson, captured the personality of the serial killer. At times I was at the edge of my seat. Highly recommend book!

This is a creepy psychological thriller that is unlike any other book I’ve read. As such it was a nice surprise, but if you’ve read any of David Jackson’s books, you’ll know he regularly comes up with original ideas..
The story focusses on Thomas Brogan who is a serial killer on the run. Whilst on the run Thomas discovers an abandoned, boarded up house. He breaks in and makes his way through the house. There is nothing of interest in the house, so he makes his way up to the attic and discovers that the abounded house is in fact a terraced house with four houses and in the attic there is no dividing wall between the attics of these four houses. Thomas then spends him time spying on the residents of these houses and soon gets to know the residents and from his viewpoint in the attic he plans his next killing spree.

This was an enjoyable read, but the reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is I did not take to Thomas.

Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for a review.
