A Knock at the Door is a thrilling and suspenseful novel by T.W. Ellis
The book follows a married couple who are accused of a crime they didn't commit and have to prove their innocence while being hunted by a mysterious enemy

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

A thrilling ride from the very beginning. I was hooked. Would make a great film or series. Looking forward to reading more from the author,

wow this book was a suprise. I picked it up for the cover and title and I knew it was going to be a psychological thriller and boy did it deliver. This is about the perfect marriage, in the perfect house and what happens when one knock on the door changes everything in an instant. All of sudden everything you ever knew is a lie and you are on the race for your life. I must say there are like 5 really good plot twists here and the very last one ruined me!

A fast paced story where the wife had to investigate the truth about her husband when the FBI declared he was not who he said he was.
A convoluted plot with some far fetched subplots, the book went on become a thriller. The story needed something more yo keep me gripped.
Overall, it was a book which made me curious about where it would all end.

Jem, married to handsome Leo, suffers from anxiety when she learns that she cannot have children. Her husband, a wine sommelier, leaves on one of his trips and he has only just left when there is a knock at the door. Two FBI agents tell Jem that her husband is working for a cartel and that she needs to go with them. She is in midst of answering their questions when the phone rings and an FBI agent called Carson tells her that Leo is in trouble and that the two agents are also not who they say they are.
The book definitely has a fast pace and a myriad of twists and turns, but I felt that it lacked heart. It started off well but rapidly became so far-fetched that I only kept reading to find out if what I suspected would be the end game. I would still recommend that readers give it a try if they like thrillers - many other reviewers seemed to like it. Overall, it was an okay read but I wouldn't be a hurry to reread it.
Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, Little, Brown Book Group UK/Sphere, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

This book sounded great. I have to say I did enjoy it, however the prospect of all this happening in one day seemed a bit unrealistic to me, It did actually span into the next day as well.
you do get invested in the characters so you want to know what is actually going on. There seems to be so many different undercurrent story lines going on.
I did enjoy this, and i never expected the ending.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the arc, which I have enjoyed reading.
This was a very clever suspense thriller with many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing, with an even cleverer twist at the end. A Knock at the Door by TW Ellis is an engrossing, entertaining read.
Highly recommended.

At it's heart, 'A knock at the door' is a story of cat and mouse, following the 24 hours after Jem receives a knock at the door from the FBI informing her that her husband is a money launderer on the run. What follows is a fast-paced adrenaline filled book that leaves you desperate to know what happens next.
Or at least, that's what I wanted it to be. Sadly for me it just had something missing. I didn't really connect with Jem, or any of the characters for that matter, and the constant run run run became repetitive after a while. I also wasn't a massive fan of the writing style, which felt a bit grating and abrasive, another element that meant I struggled to connect with the plot. Despite this, I still managed to guess the 'twist' ending, although you are left with questions despite a classic 'lets sit down and list off everything that really happened' monologue.
Yes, this is definitely a fast-paced book, and in that sense it was good as it kept your interest enough to know what happened. But the characters were one dimensional, the ending was somehow both easy to see coming whilst also leaving you with questions, and there was a lot of telling not showing which did mess with the pacing a bit. An ok book, but not one I'd read again, and not one I'd recommend.
Disclaimer - I received an advance reading copy of this book from NetGalley. This has not affected my reviewing any way, and all opinions are my own.

The first i noticed was the cover of the book, it's intriguing..
The book it's self is a clever and compulsive psychological thriller with a lot of twists. It kept me hooked from beginning until the end. I love book that you can't guess the ending. You will think that you have everything figure out but you will be wrong, I'm pretty sure of that 😉
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of the e-book in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this was a good thriller, likely not my tip read, but it kept me hooked from beginning until the end. I found it to be full of chills, thrills. And shocks! It was well written, and the character development was above average! Something was missing and I couldn’t give it a full 5 stars, but overall I found it quite engaging, had a few shocks, and recommend to others!

I don't know what it was but I just felt like there was something missing with this one.
The premise was excellent and the actual storyline was good, full of tension, suspense and action BUT it felt like someone had pressed the fast forward button and was shouting out the plot at full volume. I didn't feel at any point that I could take a breather and process what was happening! It's more like a fast paced book on amphetamines!
Perhaps because of this I couldn't connect with any of the characters, they felt overly one dimensional and not particularly likeable.
The ending is definitely a divider, I think you'll either find it fits perfectly or like me be left with too many questions.
2.5* as the actual storyline was good.
Thanks to netgalley and Sphete for the ARC.

Barely 5 minutes after Jem's husband, Leo, leaves for the airport, two FBI agents turn up at Jem's doorstep, claiming that Leo is a money launderer for a drug cartel.
While Jem is trying to get her head around this revelation, she receives a call from a man named Carlson, who allegedly is the only FBI agent on Leo's case, urging her to leave her house and run immediately.
Who is Jem going to believe? Who can she trust?

Wow!! This was a really intriguing, first class psychological thriller which grabbed and held my attention and kept me up until all hours reading, Really well written and great characters, Bring on the next one please times. Definitely recommend.

This book wasn’t my favorite psychological thriller of late, but it was perfectly serviceable and did the job. The epitome of a three star thriller

Jem and Leo live in a small town outside NYC. Leo has must left for a business trip when two FBI Agents knock on her door. They tell her that Leo isn't who she thinks he is. Then she gets a phone call from a man called Carson whomtells her that the men in her house are not from the FBI. He tells her ot to trust them and to run.
This book is fast paced from the beginning. The story is told from Jen's perspective. We get flashbacks that tell us how she met her husband. Thenstory takes place over twenty four hours. There's some good twists. I was sucked in from the first page of this action packed and gripping read. I didn't expect the ending.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group UK and the author T. W. Ellis for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A Knock at the Door is a novel filled to the absolute brim with suspense. The suspense is inescapable. The plot was absolutely entertaining and had me hanging off the edge of my seat. It was fast-paced and thoroughly enjoyable. The character development was perfect for me. I always prefer a book which has completely fleshed out characters. If you’re a fan of thrillers and crime, you will enjoy this book!
*4 stars*

Thank you to NetGalley, Sphere and T.W.Ellis for this advance review copy of A Knock on the Door.
What a gripping read. This book caught my attention from the outset, and escalated incredibly quickly, starting with a fast pace that continued throughout the entire book.
A Knock at the Door tells the story of yoga teacher Jem Talhoffer, who whilst happily married, suffers from anxiety. Whilst on the surface, she and her wine merchant husband Leo have the dream relationship and dream home, the rooms that were supposed to bear children are empty, and Jem now barely leaves the house, crippled with anxious feelings that consume her every waking thought.
When the door knocks 5 minutes after her husband Leo has left for his European business trip, she assumes it is him and that he's forgotten something in his rush to make his flight.
Instead two FBI agents stand at her door. The tell her that Leo is a money launderer and has got caught up with the cartel where he is in real danger if they don't get the information he has been harbouring. Jem is in shock, does she really know her husband? Could what they are telling her really be true?
Mid conversation her house phone rings, and another man called Carlson claims to be an FBI agent too - more importantly he claims to be the only person working on the case and therefore believes that the other two 'agents' in her home are a fake - most likely part of the cartel and therefore extremely dangerous, putting her in real risk of harm,
The rest of the story is told over the time span of 24 hours, with each chapter being a time stamp in Jem's day from hell as it unfolds.
Each chapter ends on a cliff hanger, a question or a shock, making it almost impossible to put A Knock on the Door down, desperate to find out what happens next.
Amongst the fast paced action there is also some great character building throughout. From the humorous relationship between Jem and Trevor, a technophobe government hating old man who unexpectedly crosses her path, to Rusty, the small town chief who is well out of her depth and fighting her own personal battles with her Mums Alzheimers at home. I was able to visually picture these characters in my mind as I read and hear how they talked, which is in my eyes, the result of a great narrative by the author.
The book also touches on some serious points from a factual and relatable viewpoint. As someone who has health anxiety myself, I could completely relate to Jem's thoughts and feelings and the constant battle to keep the symptoms of anxiety under control. The fake smiles, the pretence to be ok, the suppressing off tingling hands and the fact that for the main, an invisible ailment. "Don't ask me to calm down!!"
With most psychological thrillers / crime books I tend to second guess what might come next, and more often than not the ending isn't a great surprise, however the ending to A Knock on the Door I certainly did NOT see coming. If I am honest it felt a little like the ending was thrown at me out of the blue and did feel a little rushed, but overall, it was a great way to conclude what had been a really enjoyable read.
I read A Knock on the Door from cover to cover in less than 24 hours - a great action packed, gripping read, that I would definitely recommend.

What. An. Ending. This book was fairly easy to read but I did not see the end coming at all. I don’t want to give any spoilers away but I will say that the ending totally made the entire book worth reading. One note is that although this book will be sold in the UK, it’s frustrating to read a book with American characters set in the US who speak in UK terms. For example, the protagonist is cutting an avocado and she plucks the “stone” out. In America, they call that a pit. I felt like the characters were British and not American at all.
This was my first time reading a T.W. Ellis book and I will definitely be looking for others!
I do recommend A Knock at the Door but keep in mind that it’s more action/chase scenes than psychological thriller throughout most of the book.
I’ll definitely be thinking about this book for awhile!
