Thanks to Netgalley and Little, Brown Book Group for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Jem is happily married to Leo, who has just left their home in a small town outside of NYC on a business trip to Europe. Shortly after his departure, 2 FBI agents appear at her door telling her that Leo is not who she thought he was. During their visit, she gets a call from a guy called Carlson who tells her that he is the real FBI agent and she can't trust the people that are in her house.

3.5 stars.

I am sort of torn on this one. I liked the fast pace, as the whole book took place over the course of 24 hours. But it seemed like there was a lot of aimless running around and not enough uncovering real clues about what was actually going on with Leo. I felt that it was readable, in that I wasn't put off by the writing style and got through it in a day and a half. My big issue is at the end of it, I still don't think I fully understand who exactly was guilty of what, even though there were a lot of guilty people. I felt like the crimes and various people's involvement were very general. The final reveal was unforseen but it utilized a device I am not crazy about. Overall, it was a little better than average.

Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for accepting my netgalley request to read. This is a new author for me ,this is his psychological thriller and under this name.

Incredibly fast paced and action packed .

Who is telling the truth? Is all as it seems.

Slick, stylish writing that captivates the reader from start to finish.

I could relate to the main character who has some deep rooted issues that impact her moods.

Really enjoyed this read.

A sincere thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for providing me with an ebook copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is not my usual genre, I’m more into romance stories and girlie books therefore am extremely pleased and grateful to them for opening up my mind to something totally different.

I enjoyed this very much. 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Once you‘ve reached the end you will never read a book with the same eyes again

I was intrigued when I first heard that Tom Wood (writing here as T.W. Elis) was making a detour from his Victor series. How would that look like? Could it be both fresh and familiar? Action-packed yet not in a Victor kind of way? And - most importantly - would it still feel like a Tom Wood book? The answer is yes - in the most daring way imaginable!

A KNOCK AT THE DOOR is special. For one, its protagonist Jem Talhoffer isn’t your usual kind of thriller protagonist. She has anxiety issues yet she is highly observant, erratic but considerate at the same time - a walking contradiction really. Tom Wood channels all his strengths here, creating a lead who feels both real and relatable while lending her that unique, detailed perception of the world around her, which only he is capable of.

But the story also feels very different from the ones Victor inhabits. It is more grounded and emotionally charged and it’s no exaggeration to say that it defies expectations at every turn and keeps the reader on edge till the very last page.

The supporting characters are also a colourful band of misfits, who every Talkmaster would dream of having on their show because no matter what they do they would be entertaining as hell and have something meaningful to say about life.

Like I said at the beginning: once you finished this book you will never read a thriller with in the same way again. And that’s not hyperbole as from now on you will always account for the possibility that... just read for yourself

Absolutely fantastic thriler. The ending completely blindsided me and I feel that we could do with a seuqel. It's fastpaced and interesting and this will be an author I will keep an eye out for.

A Knock at the Door is an outstanding thriller that I simply couldn’t put down. It centres around 24 or so hours in the life of a woman who’s world is turned upside down after two FBI agents knock on her door, looking for her husband. A phone call from a stranger a few minutes later reveals that these individuals aren’t who they say they are... Events spiral out of control and the remainder of the novel is a twisty, taut and exhilarating ride as we discover just exactly what is transpiring.

I love the way this novel is written - each chapter a time stamp from some point in the day. It plays out like an episode of 24 and is equally packed with action and drama. There are genuinely multiple surprises in the narrative that I did not see coming, even though there are some subtle hints along the way. The ending is seriously clever and I found myself going “of course”, I just hadn’t built upon the hints that are perfectly dropped throughout the proceedings.

I really enjoyed the character development amongst the action and the relationship between Jem and Trevor adds some pleasing humour between the tension and action. Rusty, the local Chief of Police, is also a great character that I enjoyed learning more about too.

I can not recommend this thriller enough for fans of the genre, as it packs everything you could want into one almighty punch!

Interesting thriller. A premise that makes you wonder what on earth you would do and who you would believe if someone knocked on your door, claiming they were from the FBi and that they wanted to speak to you. Something to do with your husband.

There’s twists and turns a plenty although I did feel it got a bit action hero for my liking. It’s a quick adventure of a read but despite the sense of adventure and fact that someone goes on the run, there’s no sense of space and distance.

Very entertaining.

Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy. Lots of twists making the reader wonder who is the bad guy and who is the good guy. Did not see the ending coming at all. Overall, average writing but the ending was not what I expected.

So, Jem is your next door homemaker/yoga teacher, quiet as a mouse living in a sleepy suburban house with winemaker husband Leo. All is well until one morning, after her husband leaves for the day, she is confronted by brand new information about her trusted husband. Suddenly she is on her own, not knowing where to go, whom to trust. She runs from her house, into the wild but where would she go from there? Can the police be trusted? After all, she just ran away from two people from the FBI who had just tried to kill her! Behold the roller-coaster ride she takes along with the old foul-mouthed Trevor and his dog. Things are about to get real nasty from here!

What would you do when you’re confronted by the police, dropping a HUGE bomb of information about your husband who literally means the world to you? RUN I’d say, but where to? Apparently there’s a drug cartel involved. They are dangerous, aren’t they? I loved the way Jem reacts to the danger in front of her. That’s exactly what I’d have done if I were in such situation. She makes bad decisions, trusts strangers and makes rude, sarcastic comments on cartel men. Probably trained killers. The conversations between Trevor and Jem were darkly funny and surprisingly entertaining.

The story narrated by Jem follows the events following the day after the KNOCK AT THE DOOR and slowly explores to how Leo and Jem met. With a breakneck speed, the chapters fly in a jiff hooking the readers with the necessary anticipation and curiosity. I completely enjoyed the female action, dark humor, and unexpected twists, especially that ending!! Highly recommended thriller of 2020.

What a synopsis! I’ve been checked every email to see if I was approved...yet! As soon as I read the synopsis I knew I had to read this!

A Knock at the Door is one of those books that doesn’t make any sense to the end. Does that make it bad? No, not at all. I just wish I’d been aware of that when beginning the story. Overall this is a fast paced entertaining read. I didn't find it particularly thrilling but was a great way to spend an afternoon curled up in my favourite chair.

3.5/5
