What a fabulous book! Really it could have been a trilogy ! By the time I'd finished , I felt like I was an honorary member of the Sullivan clan, so immersed was I in their lives and loves and hopes and fears. Young Caitlyn Sullivan is abducted from her family's grounds during an innocent game of hide and seek, while her family are gathered to honour the memory of her great grandfather , head of the Sullivan acting dynasty. What ensues takes us on an exhilarating, thrilling journey as we get involved in all their lives. I don't want to issue any spoilers but I wholeheartedly recommend this beautifully written book. Nora Roberts is such an accomplished storyteller, it's easy to forget one is reading a work if fiction. I found it hard to switch it off at night and couldn't wait to dive straight back in again in the morning. The characters are lovingly crafted and totally believable and its easy to totally lose oneself in their world. .it was a world I was reluctant to leave!

I use to love Nora Roberta books but I think I read so many I got bored with the same storyline. Thought I would try again as I was given the privilege to read on Netgalley. Yes the book was good but did not keep me motivated to keep reading.

The first part of our story is great with real pace and characters you connect with. Cate Sullivan’s life changed forever when she is a child. Escaping a kidnapping keeps giving her nightmares and flashbacks. The later part of our story deals with Cate as an adult and how her life is still affected by her past. This slows down the pace of the story which only picks up when we return to the Big Sur estate the setting for generations of the Sullivan’s.
I was given an ARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I've read quite a few Nora Roberts books and this one has all the usual components -- the beautiful environments, the fiesty heroine, the confident love interest, and (boatloads) of charming, loving, quirky family/surrogate family characters to fill in the scenery...
So, the formula was there, right? And at first I enjoyed the amount time spent on the tragic backstory and the flash forward to start turning her life around sections. There was a lot of great narrative there, but from there is actually where it just fizzled out. The villain, was never more than a pest, nobody ever seemed more than mildly concerned or annoyed. There was no danger, and then the finale was more laughable than dramatic. There was just. not. much. here -- no heat, no suspense, and barely any romance.
This is a lukewarm offering from a writer, I at least, usually find pretty reliably entertaining.

This was an excellent book - Nora Roberts has done it again!

I have to say that this was a brilliant read, it was fast paced, full of drama and romance and I loved it - this had me hooked from start to finish.

I thought that the characters were well developed and I enjoyed getting to know them as the book progressed.

It is 5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended!

I’m a massive fan of Nora Roberts, have read all her books, but her last couple have been really flat, after reading act 1, I found myself hoping she was back to her best. The first act had me gripped and I loved all the characters, however the rest of the book just lost it for me, it was dull, flat, to many characters and names. I found myself skimming the pages....it picked up a wee bit at the end but not enough to make up for the middle of the book. Even the romance, which Roberts is famed for, was dry and flat. Again disappointed but will still read her new ones in the hope she gets back to her best

I had mixed feelings about this novel. I like Nora Roberts writing very much but for me this book felt a little confused. I liked the description of trauma & survival & the aftermath of that but felt ultimately it was too long & had too many characters. The ending was a little lacklustre but for a chill beach read I would recommend it.

I didn't enjoy this book at all I am afraid. There were too many characters. I found it very confusing and the story was lost

I have been reading Nora Roberts for years now, and for the most part, have thoroughly enjoyed her writing. Lately her books have been not quite up to par. Her earlier books were of the highest caliber, grabbing you and not letting you go until the end. I enjoyed this book, the characters were interesting, but it didn't really work for me. The ending was flat, not an oh-wow moment. I really miss the "Keepers" from Ms. Roberts. Instead of pre-ordering her books, I will probably get them from the library. Ms. Roberts has a gift but I think her latest works were too rushed with not enough emphasis on substance. Some writers become complacent with Best Seller reviews and it shows in mediocre books. Books like Blue Smoke and the Key Trilogy are examples of "Keepers." I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.

A warm emotional story which draws you in from the start. With Nora Roberts you know there is going to be a happy ending, but how she gets there is always engrossing. Fabulous.

Oh how excited was I to get an advanced copy of this book?!

I read it in one sitting. As ever with Nora's books, I could not put it down. I am also really really pleased that she is finally getting back to the good old days of her writing. This reminded me of Public Secrets and Honest Illusions - both sweeping, epic mystery love stories that grip you from the very start.

A wonderful addition to my collection and one I will read time and time again.

Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and the author. You made my weekend!!

Another fantastic book by Nora Roberts. Hideaway focuses on finding yourself and the bonds of family, those who you share blood and those of the heart.
I truly enjoyed this book and reminded me of some older books by the author. I absolutely loved the way this book was written as it goes in depth on the main character after her abduction and it allowed the reader to know the dynamics of all the characters.
I cannot wait for more books from Nora Roberts, as usual the nailed the story and the characters.

It’s 2001 and on the Big Sur the family of recently deceased Hollywood icon Liam Sullivan (92) are holding a memorial. The day goes well although there are tensions between his grandson Aidan and his high maintenance wife Charlotte who wants to get away from ‘Sullivan’s Nest’ as fast as possible. The great grandchildren are playing in the large, secure grounds and the final game is hide and seek. Aidan’s daughter, Caitlyn Ryan Sullivan knows just the place to hide and win the game with her cousins. The unthinkable happens and Caitlyn is kidnapped and a ransom of ten million is demanded. As the site is so secure it becomes clear this is an inside job ..... The story is told principally by Caitlyn and takes us from 2001 to the present day.

There are a number of elements I like about this book. The Sullivan family with one exception are very likeable and they all have a lovely bond which is heartwarming. The care and devotion they show to Caitlyn comes across well. There is another family that are important characters too. Caitlyn is helped after the kidnap by the Cooper family - grandma Maggie, mother Julia and son Dillon who is close in age to Caitlyn. They are all delightful characters and I love their lifestyle on their farm. The characters are the strongest element in the book in my opinion. The locations are wonderful too and the book brought back lovely memories especially of the Big Sur.

However, although I like the book I didn’t love it for the following reasons. It’s all a bit predictable, the insider for the kidnapping is obvious from the get go and these characters feel stereotypical. There isn’t enough suspense or fear created and to me it’s more a love story between the families and Caitlyn and Dillon than a suspense novel. The elements of hate, revenge and greed are not strong enough either in my opinion. The ending should have been much more dramatic and I think it sort of fizzles out.

Overall, very good characters and a heartwarming story of Caitlyn's survival and love but unfortunately it’s not very memorable.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group for the ARC.
