This is an excellent introduction to PowerPoint for someone who is quite news to the Microsoft Office programmes. Reading the text and practising the exercises will give the user confidence to produce an effective presentation to communicate a message or series of messages simply and powerfully. The book is both accessible and attractively presented. I would recommend it

I am glad I downloaded this book. As the title says it is brief, but it's comprehensive., You may want to bookmark this book and keep it as a reference for learning and doing a quick refresher on your PowerPoint tools knowledge. I am looking forward to getting a similar title for Microsoft Teams.

This was brilliant, I'd love to see something similar for Excel!
The book explained things without talking down to the reader, at no point did I feel like I was being patronised. A great intro to the programme.

** Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review **

Like its Excel counterpart Excel Basics In 30 Minutes, PowerPoint Basics In 30 Minutes is a simple and effective introduction.

The full title is “PowerPoint Basics In 30 Minutes: How to make effective PowerPoint presentations using a PC, Mac, PowerPoint Online, or the PowerPoint app” by Angela Rose. As usual, I thank Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

I was interested in just the basics as I did not plan on using PowerPoint to make slides for a presentation. I am retired and so had no need in mind, just a mild curiosity.

So I did not complete the book but felt I did get enough for my purposes. But if there is ever a need, I now know where to look.

Based on my experience with 2 books in the “30 minutes” series, I would seriously consider others in the series if the need arose.

I think this is an excellent introductory guide and reference book. If at some point I want to learn more about PowerPoint or just refresh my memory on some tasks, I would probably buy this book.

I seriously love this book! Let me tell you, as someone who spent years working in offices that used Powerpoint, it was a skill I always wished I had but every time I would look at a book on learning PowerPoint I'd think it looked like too much trouble to pick up! lol It was easier to leave it to the 'knowledgeable ones' in my office but I did envy their skills as I knew they were marketable ones and I wanted to be able to make presentations like the ones I'd seen them do. So when the publisher offered me a chance to review this book, I decided to take a look. I was worried it might be another dry, wordy text like most others I've seen on this subject but I was very pleasantly surprised. Here's a few things that made me love it... The Table of Contents is very detailed/focused and makes it very easy to see what part of the book addresses the area you need instant information on. Too many books are lacking in this regard! Since I always buy digital versions of books, I also think it's great that the TOC is click-through, something I've seen some Kindle books lack! Next thing I appreciated was the laidback, relaxed conversational manner in which the book is written. It's like having a friend sit down and show you the ropes and give you some inside perspective on things like which edition of the software might best suit your needs and how to get the best pricing (I really loved that both of these areas were addressed right at the start.) But most of all, what really sold me on this book is that you don't have a lot of wordy, dry text that just adds fluff and makes it hard to get through. This author just teaches you all the basic information you need to put together a presentation and she does it without a lot of unnecessary filler that will make you bored to tears. That's exactly what I look for in a good instructional guide so I highly recommend it!

An excellent summary of how to get to know Powerpoint - fast!
This is probably the best summary I have read on a Microsoft product.
Short, concise and to the point - but with enough detail to get anyone started using Powerpoint.
Perfect for anyone who has come from MS Word or Excel.

Recommended.

I received a complimentary review copy of #PowerPointBasicsIn30Minutes from #NetGalley

This is a great guide for those who want to learn more about optimizing their PowerPoint use, or adjusting to different versions/operating systems (PC, Mac, online, app). The instructions are straightforward and practical, so in addition to being a good tutorial guide, this book would also make a good reference to keep at your desk.

I've been using PowerPoint for many years and enjoy it. Years ago I knew I was good at it and wanted to see how good I was at it so wrote and passed Microsoft's PowerPoint certification exam and got 100%! I worked freelance for a couple years and taught Microsoft programs with a couple companies (I had gotten all my Microsoft certifications). In my current job, of the Microsoft programs (excluding Outlook), I use PowerPoint about 90% of the time. I have Office 365 at home and at work ... at home I pay for the annual subscription.

The book is directed to those who use Windows, Macs and online. The chapters are:

* Launching and navigating PowerPoint - the purchasing options, launching PowerPoint, * Presenting to an audience, Backstage View (I didn't know that what this is actually has a name), navigating PowerPoint's ribbon interface, display options when working on presentations, saving your presentations, which file format to use, shutting down and locating a recovered file
* Creating a basic presentation - inserting and editing new slides, slide order within your presentation, formatting text, images and aligning and group objects
* Intermediate features - Shapes and SmartArt, Intelligent Services and PowerPoint Designer, charts, videos, text and object animations and slide transitions
* Proofing, printing and sharing - Proofing a presentation, presentation collaboration tools, protecting a presentation and printing, sharing and exporting slide decks

When I saw this book, I knew it was a "basic" book but thought it would be interesting to check out ... and it was. I was curious to see if I would learn anything new considering the years I've been using it and the amount of time I use it ... and I did. Plus it was a good reminder of things that I'd forgotten because I don't use them or have gotten lazy and do things the way I've always done them.

The book is written in an easy-to-follow manner with lots of screenshots and I'd recommend it. There were a couple times, though, when the author was explaining things that she didn't offer easier/alternative ways of doing things. Like when you are going into "presentation" mode or "slide sorter" mode ... she advised you to go "View" on the ribbon and then choosing the mode rather than using the icons on the bottom right, which are quicker and handier.

BTW, the authors loves cats too!
